Welcome,
This blog will take you on a journey with two new riders of the Team Europcar squad. We're both new to the professional milieu of cycling, so we're very lucky and anxious to start in this great French team.
Allow us introduce ourselves.
François Truffaut
Name: François Truffaut
Nationality (region): French (Champagne-Ardenne)
Date of Birth: 14/07/1989
Height: 178cm
Weight: 71kg
Type of Rider: I'm mostly a sprinter, but growing up in the Champagne region, I also know how to go up a hill. Maybe you could compare me best to Goss, the Australian rider.
Estimated Attributes:
Flat | 73 | Mountain | 61 | Hill | 71 | Downhill | 71 | Cobblestones | 68 | Recuperation | 70 | Fighter | 62 | Time Trial | 67 | Prologue | 72 | Stamina | 73 | Sprinting | 75 | Acceleration | 75 | Resistance | 70 | | | Average | 72 |
History: I've been riding since I was little, and my father (who named me after the famous filmmaker) signed me up for my first club when I was 8 years old. I won some fairly important French U23 races last year, so I was noticed by the scout of Team Europcar. I signed a 2 year contract and a wage bill of €2000 a month. I hope to prove myself in these 2 years, so I can stay even longer!

Fréderique Chapin
Name: Fréderique Chapin
Nationality (region): Switzerland (French-speaking part)
Date of Birth: 13/10/1988
Height: 177cm
Weight: 62kg
Type of Rider: I'm a climber, that's about the best thing I can tell you. I love to go uphill, downhill and everything in between. My coach says I have the potential to have a finishing (uphill) sprint no one could match. But those are his words, not mine. I love to attack and will need it much in my career, as I can't seem to handle a time trial bike. Partly because I haven't been around professional equipment long.
Estimated Attributes:
Flat | 71 | Mountain | 73 | Hill | 73 | Downhill | 72 | Cobblestones | 58 | Recuperation | 74 | Fighter | 76 | Time Trial | 62 | Prologue | 67 | Stamina | 68 | Sprinting | 69 | Acceleration | 75 | Resistance | 72 | | | Average | 72 |
History: I started cycling when I was about 12 years old. My parents never had much money so I had this old bike, but that didn't bother me. We lived in the mountains so I had to learn how to climb pretty fast, the first day actually, because it was so much fun descending that I forgot I had to go home, uphill! It wasn't until I bumped into several riders of Team Europcar training last year that I got noticed. I was able to keep at their pace, with my crappy bike. So I went down for a few tests and they welcomed me into their team. I'm very honored, especially because I'm not French.

François and Fréderique
We met in October, when we both joined the team, and were send off on a minor training camp with some other young riders. It wasn't so much training as it was getting to know each other. We connected instantly and talked about many things when, after about 5 beers each, this blog came up. Of course, we didn't remember it the next day, but it came back to us in December. So here we are!
We hope you'll follow us through our careers and hopefully through much success. Coming up in the next blog: Team Presentation and Schedules,
until then,
François and Fréderique

Great idea! I'm also quite happy that Chapin can't timetrial, that will force you to attack

Welcome once again,
Today we will take some time to introduce the team and to present our schedules for 2012, our debut year here at Team Europcar.
Team Presentation
Leaders
Thomas "le chouchou" Voeckler is a talented all-rounder, whose attacking style of riding appeals to the entire world. He's raced an incredible Tour de France last season, ending 4th in the general classification.
Pierre Rolland is a young and skilled climber. He will be our main rider for Tour de France, and we expect a top 10 place from him.
Sébastian Turgot is a classic specialist with many hidden abilities. We expect some good results from him in the early season.

The team management has shown a lot of confidence in me by making me a protected rider. Together with Sébastian Chavanel I will be the main sprinter for the team. They say I have proven myself a worthy sprinter many a time in the U23 races. I can't wait to go out there and get some good results, so I can give something back to this wonderful team.
Fréderique Chapin
The management and coach are still a bit uncertain about my abilities, which is perfectly understandable, since I don't have much competition and prizes to show for what I can do. They'll give me a schedule which combines hard working with races where I will get chances of my own. I'm thankful that they put so much trust in me and I hope I won't let them down.
We will inform you about our schedules in the next blog!

François Truffaut
I'm very happy about my schedule. I'll ride a hard season (80 race days!) but that only means that I have many chances to shine. If I can prove myself in the first part of the season, I can go to the Tour De France, I've been told. So I'll do anything possible to make that happen. As you see, Fréderique and I have many, many races we'll ride together, which will be great, as we'll be able to help each other.
I expect I will win some races this year. Not because I believe I'm the best sprinter around (definitely not), but because I believe I'm a decent sprinter and I'll participate in some .2 races where I should definitely be able to get a few wins.
Personal Goals 2012:
- 3 victories, including a .HC or higher victory
- Get myself noticed during the entire season
- Participate in Tour de France
- Top 10 in a Tour de France stage
- Top 10 in the National Championship Road Race
- No injuries!
Fréderique Chapin
This is a pretty decent schedule for me. There are some races where I'll be nothing more than a domestique (Critérium International, Dauphiné, TDF if I am selected based on my results), but there are also plenty of chances to prove myself as a possible future leader, such as Tour de Bretagne, Tour Rhônes-Alpes Isère, Ronde des Pyrénées and Circuito della Padania.
Personal Goals 2012:
- Get my first (professional) victory
- Participate in Tour de France
- Get in a breakaway group in Tour de France
- Finish Tour de France
- Top 10 in the National Championship Road Race
- Win my first jersey (GC, Young, KoM or Points) |
