Due to the short lived discussion over at Pedros I decided to make a thread where we can discuss topics of a more serious nature, such as politics, religion, live and death, etc.
We wish to keep this a civil place. With these types of subjects there are usually strong opinions involved. There will be no slandering, name-calling etc. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and can freely express it, within certain limits.
Racist comments or hatefull remarks regarding ethnicity, political point of view, etc. will not be tollerated and is strictly forbidden.

Excellent idea. We should make some basic rules though, when it comes to serious topics. Like no cursing and the 'everyone has a right to his own opinion' sort of thing. |

Those are some good house rules.
So we continue on the subject that was going on over at Pedro's or start with a clean slate here? |

It's my experience that political or religious discussion ends in inevitable flamewar every time

Could we make an agreement that if anyone repeatedly posts hatefull remarks that person will be reported to the administrators who might ban the persons account for a specified period of time?
I have high hopes for this as I feel we need a place to discuss some slightly more important subjects rather then cycling (as if there is anything more important).

As much as I think this helps keep the off-topic thread, off-topic, these types of discussions never end well....

@Cactus-jack:
If it's possible I would say yes, good idea.
It's difficult enough to have a community where there most members get along (I think this is one of the very few), but in a thread like this it gets even harder. So I agree with you.

Well, if no one sees this as a good idea, you might aswell close it right away.

Well, it's not because these discussions mostly end bad, we can't try to make it work.
It's easy to say religion and war is stupid, but they're still here, and not-talking about it won't end them.
I'm not saying we'll end a war here, but I think this could be very interesting. |

I can argue as much as I like. I'm not going to get any of the religious people in here to realise that there's no such thing as a big white-bearded man op in the sky.
So in some sense, it's kinda useless to discuss.
Wars? Can't be bothered myself, but feel free to discuss that if you like. |

I agree that you won't convince a lot of people. But that shouldn't be the goal of the discussion. It should be more about learning other points of views. Understanding and respecting other opinions rather than tell them they're stupid and force your opinion on the other one. |

CrueTrue, you have now broken one of the major rules of the thread, namely slandering.
I will now have to report you to a moderator and he will have to ban your account for a period of time

So, what about the opinions that don't deserve respect?

What doesn't go for me, is that people are dying all over Syria. People like you and me, regular Joe's. They didn't want any war, but they're the one paying the price of two camps fighting. The rebels fight the government, but who loses: mothers, kids, babies. They didn't ask for it.
Meanwhile, the UN talk about writing a piece of paper, to try to tell the president of Syria that maybe he isn't doing the best job, and maybe he should stop killing his people.
Then there was "peace". The UN sends in people to check to "peace" out, but they can't go to certain places because it's not safe, just been bombed. Hmmm, maybe the "peace" isn't working. Took them a while to figure that out...
@Crommy; That's a hard question, I admit. But that's not a reason not to try and discuss things, imo.

There is zero proof that there is no "big white-bearded man op in the sky".
There is zero proof that there is a "big white-bearded man op in the sky".
But i agree it´s useless to discuss something based on believe and not on facts.
