T'other British Cycling Team
Gaffeff
After watching the Lancashire based cycling team sky do rather well, I decided it is time to restore the natural balance and have a Yorkshire based team putting them in their place. I will start the story after the next patch (assuming it doesn't break the game). Now are you sitting comfortably ... Then I'll begin ...
With the increase in popularity of cycling in the UK, the Sheffield Institute of Sport decided to open a new velodrome in Sheffield. This will be cutting edge and take the world class arenas in the UK to 5.
As part of this Gaffeff has been approached to develop a new team from scratch and see how far it can go.
"Welcome to Yorkshire" agreed to part fund the team from the outset as part of "le Bid", the endeavor to bring the TDF start to Yorkshire in 2016.
Therefore the Yorkshire team starts with 2 objectives.

1: To start the TDF in 2016.
2: To win a stage in Yorkshire during the same TDF.

It is realised this will be a long term journey but we'd like you to come with us. As we endeavor to become the other british cycling team. Jersey to be made available soon.

2012 Team:
Jonathan Bellis
Ian Bibby
Adam Blythe
Graham Briggs
Ed Clancy
Matt Cronshaw
Ben Day
Dean Downing
Russell Downing
Daniel Fleeman
Robert Partridge

I'd love to support you but I'll have to hope for you to fail being from the great red rose county. I will follow this but don't expect to do well if you hire Yorkshire cyclists Pfft

Good luck!

I think Scott Thwaites and Graham Briggs are good Yorkies for your team Wink

I do indeed have a few riders in mind and spent most of last night looking up riders place of birth in wikipedia Smile
The rules for team selection are as follows. Test your knowledge of yorkshire riders Smile
1: At least 50% of the team should be born in Yorkshire. I based this on the 2011 expanded PCM database, and therefore this will include:
The recent winner of the "tour de sheffield" - was a very good race that I don't remember much.
The second place in the above and his brother.
A double Gold medal winner.
And two riders who left their ProTour teams to support the white rose county.
I did think about extending it to Half Yorkshire people (theres a rider who's mother was born in Yorkshire, but I thought that would be pushing realism a bit).
2: I then opened a new game on the 2011 DB to see which British and English speaking riders would be available for this year. I got the main one I wanted (yes I've pretty much pilfered Endura) but felt only riders not already agreed to a ProTour team in 2012 (in RL) would join a startup team.
Will leave you with that as on my lunchbreak now. Will give more after I finish work. Hope that gives you a chance to guess some of the riders I have signed (and the one I didn't).

Ed Clancy is from Barnsley, you don't get more Yorkshire. Birthplace of G Boycott Smile

I had Malcolm Elliot as a coach, I think we're going to need a good sprint coach.

probably earn more money than in triathlon! Maybe edit them in with a psuedo injury that keeps them out until mid-Aug/Sept so they can do the Olympic triathlon.

Great so far, you're putting a lot of effort in choice of riders, I like it!

Yorkshire Post, 1st June 2011.
Today SIS announced that as part of their development of the Sheffield Velodrome, they will be launching a road team which will look to ride International events.
The team whose name has yet to be confirmed has annouced their Sponsors with a budget expected to be about £2M per year, around a third that of rivals Sky. One sponsor will be "Welcome to Yorkshire" who advise "this is money already included in the budget and so will not require any new tax payer funding, we believe bring le grand depart to Yorkshire will bring great financial benefit to Yorkshire as a whole and ensure the widest annual sporting audience in the world has the benefit of understanding what makes Yorkshire the greatest area in the world".
Plusnet the communications provider will also support both the velodrome and the road team, stating that they believe the team "will show the best of Yorkshire grit to the World".
So far the riders confirmed for the Sheffield based team are:
Ian Bibby
Graham Briggs
Ed Clancy
Dean Downing
Russell Downing
Scott Thwaites
Jonathan Tiernan-Locke
Rumours abound of other riders they are looking to add to their roster but Sky, Omega-Pharma Lotto and Endura were unavailale for comment on the rumours.
One story showing their ambition if not their reach was confirmed as Mark Cavendish advises he was approached but politely declined. "I'm only half-Yorkshire" He joked, "but wish them all the best in their future endevours".

Love the Idea but don't knwo a great deal about them. I only saw the last few minutes highlights of the Triathalon. I'm assume they would be Roulers of some description (Time Trialers or Fighters). The commentary stated that Allaistair went ahead as he was worried about being beaten in the sprint. My plan would be to pull out randomly generated Young riders of the type and then move them up with training.
So abit of a vote: Time Trialler or Fighter.
And Promising or Future Great?

Only 7 riders at the moment, but they have the makings of a good team Wink

Nice Idea. Will do that. Will probably also have to block Ed Clancy out between say May 1st and 1st September. Geraint Thomas did the Giro as warm up.

If Ed Clancy is Injured, than a rider currently unconfirmed would take his place in the team pursuit (I believe he was next in line) so would have the same restriction.
