Earlier today it was announced personally by S.L. Benfica president Luís Filipe Vieira that Rui Costa will become the new manager of the club for the upcoming 2011-12 season. The legend of portuguese football who spent last 3 season as a director of football will replace Jorge Jesus who decided to join one of the leaders of Spanish football - Sevilla FC. The move itself has been seen as a shocker. While Rui Costa did great job during the period as a director of football he hasn't managed any clubs yet. However, Mr. Vieira said that he has big fate in him: "Rui is a special football mind. It wasn't only his recent success as director of football that helped me to make this decision but also the fact that he was one of the best playmakers of his generation." Rui Costa is expected to start working in his new position later this week.

This looks like a nice start 
I write stories on the EA forums (I have since FIFA 09) and this is of a good qualty, most people just start with no intro now

Always been a big FIFA fan and wrote a story on the EA forums once with (oddly) Chicago Fire. Nowadays I manage Rayo Vallecano after travelling Europe for 11 seasons..
Anyway, the fact that you're involving Rui-Flipping-Costa in your story and taking charge of the lovely Benfica, means I'm definitely in! |

Good luck with your story. Rui Costa was a legend and Benfica has very nice team, as we could see in this years EL.

S.L. Benfica held a press conference today which main focus was on recently appointed manager Rui Costa. He talked about how he accepted his new role with the club and, of course, team goals for the upcoming season.
"When Luis(Vieira) told me that Jorge(Jesus) has decided to accept Sevilla's offer I gave him the list of managers that I thought could replace him. He looked at that paper and put it down while smiling. I thought to myself that I have probably searched for the wrong ones but Luis pointed his finger at me and said: "Rui, I want you to take this job!" That surprised me a lot but I couldn't reject the offer as it was one of the things that I have dreamed about since childhood."
When asked about team goals Rui Costa had a short asnwer: "Our goal is to win the league title." A pretty logical answer considering the fact that S.L. Benfica is the most successful Portuguese club.
The new manager also admitted that he will work as a director of football until the new one is appointed but he also added that it's definitely not a permanent option.

S.L. Benfica announce their preseason opponents
S.L. Benfica today announced those 3 teams that they will face in their preparation for the new season.
The first match is set to take place on July 22nd when Águias will host the strong Marseille side at Estadio da Luz. One week later Benfica will travel to Huddersfield to face the local club Huddersfield Town FC. Benfica will end it's preseason campaign with home match against KSV 1919. This game is set to take place on the 5th of August.
Benfica's manager Rui Costa pointed out that the main focus in these friendlies won't be the result but execution of some tactical tasks.

Really nice work, I think I'll make a FIFA13 story when it released, so good to see one on here. Good luck with Benfica, Porto will be tough to beat though.
