I've been asked to crate thread for strategy games. They became quite popular lately on our forum  Here post any comments about any strategy games 
I'll start off with my Carthaginian Campaign.
Here's the picture of the map. As you can see after agonisingly walking across my army for many turns - I defeated Numidia. Not going to bother with Egypt for now. In Carthage I am assembling an army slowly for the Rome conquest.
However my next target is Spain. My army assembled with young general leading who should gain experience. Should be fun battle as Spain has many light units - that's why I didnt produce any phalanx units and cocentrated on cavalry, shit infantry and good spear man.
I began my tactic of blocking the ports of Brutti, as it's my next target in Rome. I am not sure when invasion will take place, but everything is going fine so far.
I've been also playing Company of Heroes again. Brilliant game.

Looks good so far. Maybe I will also start again with playing Rome or Medieval 2.
Maybe I can also put in the Hearts of Iron series here.
I have Hearts of Iron 2 (Doomsday) and Hearts of Iron 3 (Collection) and I think they are very good grand strategy games, although they haven't a real-time battle system like Rome/Medieval 2. So it's a lot more for people who like Interfaces and some historic graphics.
HoI2 is I think a lot easier than 3 in terms of controlling etc. as HoI3 revamped the HQ system a lot and more that makes it harder to control.
I don't play with mods as I think the developers made enough thoughts into the game etc. The only game I play with mods would be the newer PCMs for the equipment mainly.
At Hearts of Iron you can start at some dates before or at the War (1936-1944) and then you can try to change the history. You have to put in a lot of thinking in this game as small mistakes lead into challenging problems.
2 is a lot more crazier and offers you a lot more freedom to do stuff you want to do, like creating a fascist USA or creating a friendship between Germany and Poland. It has also a lot more events which triggers stuff and so could change the gameplay a lot.
3 is more restricted and feels a lot more like a 2nd WW simulation as you can't do a lot of crazy stuff even though you still can change history, like conquering the world with Luxembourg which I can't but someone managed to do that with hopping through the world. It has just the major events and so thats why it's more a 2nd WW simulation.
Here is a result of Hearts of Iron 2 starting 1944 and taking the Sovietunion, pushing back and destroying the Germans:
Once I played with Japan and just conquering China, it was very weird that the Germans struggled very bad at taking Poland and managed to get some results against the Sovietunion but not historical as they weren't that far, they were beaten up by France with a lot of help by the British and US forces and so the Allies held also Poland, Italy etc.

HoI series is really hard-core gaming Very tough to learn to play if you never played any games by Paradox. However very enjoyable too. Nicely done with Russia what are your next targets in that game ? Conquering France and then UK ? Or focusing on Asia ?

Pfft, no one has the right to call a Paradox game tough until they have played Victoria 1
I used to play a lot of strategy games (I think that I've spent well over 300 hours on RTW in my life), before I started to work (ironically, in a games store). Have you ever played the Europa Barbarorum mod Alakagom? It is made by pretty much ever talented modder in the community in conjunction with ancient historians, so everything in it is as realistic as the game is able to get. Not only that but the map is increased hugely, as well as the gameplay. Worth looking at.

Oh indeed, Crusader Kings and Victoria with no manuals, no tutorials were mind-blowingly ridiculous at the start Never really got into the, but now with both having sequels and CK 2 really having good reception - I should try them.
Well, that's seems to be pretty nice job Although I guess it's harder for all games shops now - with downloading games from steam, origin etc. widespread and disc versions become slowly ''exctinct''.
I know the mod, but never played it. Due to the fact it's so massive, and Rome TW Vanilla is massive enough for me Although I will try it soon, it's definitely one of the best mods there is.

CK2 is one of the best strategy games out there at the moment, even better than EUIII, which is one of my favourite games ever (with the Magna Mundi mod of course). I haven't had a chance to play Vicky 2 yet though, it is sitting there waiting to be downloaded, but I just haven't found the time.
The games retail industry is struggling a bit, yeah. The second largest retailer here just shut down (I work at the largest, fortunately), but there is plenty of business to go aruond, given that the consoles in particular haven't quite got used to the whole download-based services.

agree CK2 is one of the best - personally i like also HOI2 ARMA with Iron cross |

I still have an old copy of Operational Art of War II installed. It makes HoI look like Tic-Tac-Toe. Fun too.
Enjoying Men of War - Assault Squad as a viable descendant of CoH. It's a bit bigger in scope and has more micromanagement but it obeys core tactical principles in a hectic RTS environment.
Civ5 is impressive and my wife doesn't like it at all.
For any Napoleonic period afficionados I would have to recommend HistWar Les Grognards which is an independent game. Very deep once you get to grips with it. It's a bit like the old Battleground series from the 90's.
Finally, Crusader Kings II and Wargame: European Escalation just made it onto my system this month and I'm enjoying both. The former might threaten as much time as Civ5 does.
It was eleven more than necessary.

All games you guys mentioned are great, i played all games from Paradox apart from HoI,as i am not into modern war much. I prefer swords and exploration, artillery at most
And as you are teasing me here with all the games, i installed EU3 with Magma Mundi mod again, but now the hardest thing in every game like this awaits me, to choose the country i will lead 
I am thinking about Venice or Austria, as i would like to face the turkish invasion and never played for these two nations. So now it will be either military or economics focus.

HistWar is a lot of fun but the learning curve is immensely steep and the lack of historical set-up for battles annoyed me slightly. I wanted to start battles with historical deployments and play it from there. I'll sit down for a fortnight at some point, maybe at the end of this year, and really get into the game.
9-Ball, have you ever played the HPS Simulations version of the TalonSoft Napoleonic Games? I always have a game or two of PBEM going with people from the Napoleonic Wargame Club. I'm currently playing the complete Waterloo campaign (from June 15th-19th). It is the 16th of June and I'm enjoying it more than pretty much every other tactical game I've played. My opponent has decided not to hold either Quatre Bras or Ligny and is sitting between Quatre Bras and Waterloo with both of his armies united.

I have indeed. There are downloadable scenarios/deployments a-plenty for Histwar now, btw. Just about every major Napoleonic engagement is available. It would indeed take a couple of solid weeks study to get to grips with it.
I've read of the HPS sims of the TalonSoft games but never tried any PBEM games. I would hope you're playing as the French then, given your opponent's position. If they're united then you're in trouble, regardless of letting Quatre Bras go. Good luck. I'll check your link out on that club. I have less time these days for such but would be interested in human opponents for PBEM for any of the deeper Napoleonic era games.

Sadly, this is a trend in some type of games, we just want it realistic as possible and developer is still happy that they sold the game even with flaws. But to be honest, EU and Total war series are way way better and playable without community work than PCM, which i see as the king of uncomplete releases...
