News in July
jsh312mufc
Fabian Cancellara leads the Tour, Wiggins second, Tony Martin has a puncture. Today we have an interesting stage with 5 cat 4 climbs with 1 right at the end. Armstrong is coming up with another alibi for the courts. Bring on July!

Seems like Tirreno-Adriatico under financial threat. Damn, hopefully they will try to cut the budget and keep the race aflaot, because now - they've been overspending the budget way too much it seems.

Aquarone has it very right, the problem is that it clashes with Paris-Nice and so loses TV revenue.

Solution: Tireno needs to move.

Moving it to a more earlier season slot would make it more of a option for many teams Wink

Tour Down Under 2013 route have been unveiled.

https://www.tourdo...es-1-6.htm

Didn't look at it greatly, but there's new and more climbs as well as Striling and Willunga remain.

It's always been like that, with riders having to chose between both (like Dauphiné / Tour de Suisse), and the best of those two worlds meeting in Milan - San Remo (or Tour de France in the other example).
Not that things should last forever, but that'd be odd to not have them clashing dates.

I agree, but if the race is under financial hardship, it needs to find a way to survive.

A bit off-topic but can i ask if somebody knows more about how can weight loss ( cavendish case especially, 3-4 kilos) influence his top speed? Also is there is some scientific article about how the power and muscles are used for sprint so that weight reduction can make you slower sprinter but faster going uphill?
My friend is interested in this and i am not able to answer all his questions from scientific point of view.
Thanks in advance...
I'll be back

L'Equipe thinks the yellow helmets for team classification leaders is a flop: "Sky looked like an army of chicklets". French TV say 20 of the 22 teams have agreed to it. No word on the 2 that didn't...

Edit - apparently RSNT is one of those 2 https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/radio...-stage-win

Have to admit though, the helmets make it easy to pick out the Sky riders in the peloton at the moment Grin

Plus, one stage starts on grass, not road...

Agree. No WT races in February. Would be a great slot for Tirreno.

Yea but it would also be weird somehow, because riders normally prep for San Remo in Tirreno. They would need to race a second race as well, because the time would get to big and then all the favorites would already meet up in Paris - Nice as its the only stage race left before San Remo

Who would want to be in form for a WT race in February though? Moving to February would improve in terms of not clashing with another WT race, but would be a step back in everything else, specially in big names contending the race.

More on that new Schleck team that was discussed in News in June. Voigt pretty much confirms it.

"I haven't received a call with a concrete contract offer yet. But where there's smoke, there's fire. Perhaps they'll offer me a combined contract - one more year as a rider and then join the management."

Smile Would be great to see Voigt racing another year

And would be the most awesome thing (almost ever) to see Jens Voigt as a directeur sportif! Grin

I suppose other people have as much if not more knowledge than me on the matter, but I'll give my two cents.
First of all, it depends on what kind of mass you lose. Lose one or two bones and you can't ride anymore. Pfft Lose only fat mass and you'll climb faster, but also climb faster. Lose muscle say, in the arms (hard to lose 3 or 4 kg there, but still), and you'll climb faster, and probably sprint faster too.
Lose muscles in the legs, and you'll probably lose a little top end speed, but will climb better, given your mass has decreased, but you have not harmed your muscles of course (don't try with a knife : won't work Pfft).

Then there are other factors : as I've written many times, it's not track cycling we're talking about. Road sprinters would be crap against the likes of Baugé, Hoy, etc. with their current condition. Why ? Because to be the fastest at the end of a road race, you need to be present there, and fresh enough to sprint. If you can't climb a speed bump (Marcel Kittel says : "Hello"Wink, or if that tires you too much, you won't be able to deliver. So, that's a compromise to find.

Maybe you were asking for something like Watts per kilogramme of muscle though. I don't know if it works like that, I mean I don't know if it's supposed to be constant through a variation of muscular mass, especially for explosive efforts. Maybe anyone with a more specific knowledge could answer that ?
