When playing a mountain or hill stage I generally take my leader/GC contender on single dot with two or these guys protecting him. I manage to break free from the peleton except for three or four guys who manage to hang with me.
My question is: what is the best way to get rid of these three or four guys and still try to expand my gap on the peleton? Should I keep my formation the same? Or should I take my guys who are protecting me and put them on short or infinite relays with a very high effort level while my leader is set on maintain position?
Any ideas? Just a note: I am looking for suggestions on both a mountain top finish and one where there might be a downhill then level finish. |

You could try attacking away from them

As Sporting said, an attack would be good. If you don't have any more blue energy, you can click the bidon button. It gives you both blue and green energy |

Just so we agree: Bidon tis pretty much a bottle right?
Since when have that given more blue energy?

The drinks will give green energy first, and it has enough to fill an empty bar, but any additional drink left once the green bar is full with increase youre blue bar

Actually, I didn't realize it before last year with PCM06. My friend who had only played it for a week or two didn't understand why I didn't attack on the mountain. I said that I didn't have any energy for it -- and he just looked at me like I was an idiot. "Just click the bottle button" |

Youre telling me that in three editions of PCM, i have never been able to win a GT simply because i couldnt counter-attack when the favorites went off, and that it could have been prevented by drinking?
Screw this, im calling in sick tommorow

I read somewhere that it was a bad idea to drink manually, unless the drinking would inerfere with a sprint or up an important climb?
Will a rider with full green and blue and 2 bottles ride faster than a full rider with 1 bottle?

A full rider with 2 bottles will ride faster than one with 1, yes. |

Has anyone noticed that Cunego and Di Luca are really tough to beat in the Giro? I can't seem to ever shake them off of my tail and they can outsprint anyone on my team in the final 2K. |

Yes - they are tough, but not impossible to beat. You've just got to sit behind them, then set a fast tempo towards the end, and hope they fall off of you.
Failing that, slip something into their drink

Thank god there are no really good French riders or else I wouldn't be able to win the Tour de France either.
Waghlon:
If it make you feel any better, I knew about the bottles and I have only been playing for three weeks. But I tend to read a lot of forums when I am playing a new game.
What I did not know is there a rider with 2 bottles and full green is faster than a rider with 1 bottle and full green. So it appears that there is a third "bar" that is linked to speed/energy. The blue bar, the green bar and the subtle bidon bar. Not to mention the effects of daily form and training fitness. |

I feel terribly outsmarted by this thread.
And regarding the Giro; on my computer is always seems like Piepoli is the man to beat. In three Giro's he have finished no 3 twice and won once. And heck, i had one where Bettini didnt lose all that much time in the mountains and finished 8th or something like that.

as isso has said quite a lot, it's to do with cya-logic
if the stage is given a hilly rating, when it's got 12 HUGE mountains in it, hilly riders will still be there to fight out for the win, the same as a hilly rating in the Tour of Qatar, all the hilly guys would attack on the flat, and win
that's probably what happened with Bettini
