Hello everybody, and welcome to my new blogsite. For all of you who don't know me, here is a short bio.
About me
I was born on September 27, 1990. I comes from a very small town in Quebec – Ste Perpetue, south of the St. Lawrence, north-east of Quebec City and not far from the northern border of the US state of Maine. As a kid I loved to play soccer and I also raced triathlons – which I started at 9yrs old. When i was 14, I started to focus on cycling and my triathlon training helped me improve in the time trial discipline. I have ridden for 5 years now, and I am a two-time U23 National TT Champion, as well as 1-time U23 Road Champ.
As a rider, time-trialling is my best trait. I hope to become one of the world's elite in that discipline over my career. I can also ride the hills decently too, so if everything goes to plan, I'll be winning the occasional classics too.
I have started this blog so I can share my experience in the professional peloton. I will soon release my early season plan as well as my team presentation review, which is next week.

Houle Makes Shock Move to Europcar
Sought-after Canadian TT specialist Hugo Houle has defied his own word and signed with Team Europcar, over the earlier-promised Team Spidertech. Houle, the 2010 and 2011 U23 Canadian TT Champion, was almost certain to sign with the Canadian outfit Spidertech, but instead signed a one-year deal with French Team Europcar. One of the major factors in Houle's decision is said to be based on his desire to ride with friend and countryman David Veilleux. Whether the decision will hurt Spidertech is yet to be seen.

What's up guys, Hugo here.
Last weekend was team presentation day, and what a day! It was awesome to finally meet all the guys, and haivng my good mate David there was good too, he introduced me to some guys I was too scared to approach (Tommy Voeckler!!) and eased me into what was a great day.
And that afternoon, after the presentation, we had our pre-season meeting. Although I can't give you a full schedule, I can enlighten you with my first four races of the season, which starts for me in late February.

Rolland and Gautier are our co-leaders in this race. One of them will hopefully be there near the end. I will just test my legs, and I don't expect anything far from just finishing.
An early attacker is our own Anthony Charteau. No one follows and he sets off alone, gaining a maximum of 2'08" lead.
He would be eventually caught after about 35kms ahead of the peloton. I was comfortable in the pack, my legs were feeling good, despite the rain.
But now as the final 50kms set in, the hills were getting a bit too much for me. I began to fall behind the leaders.
Gautier was now our onlt rider left in front, although the rest of the team, led by Pierre Rolland, were following behind. Would they be caught?
Johan Mombaerts, who had broken away earlier, was still just ahead of Groupe Gautier, still had a short lead with only 4 kms left. Could he hold on all the way?
Yes he can. Mombaerts takes an unlikely win! Gautier sprints for third.
And I come in nearly 10 minutes later in 36th place. Good start for me.

We definitely think Christopher Kern can earn a win or at least a podium here. Good form, as well as the near summit finish and TT kilometres it suits him well. This first stage will probably end in a sprint, but a good puncheur has a chance to break away. Haddou will sprint for a top-10. Anthony Charteau will go for the KoM points.

I spent the early kilometres of the race near the front, participating in relays to keep attacking riders from getting too far away. We want Anthony Charteau to be in perfect position for the upcoming KoM points.
And yes that worked, as Anthony took the points easily with a strong kick at the top of the downhill approaching the climb.
And 6 more points for Charteau, as he wraps up the KoM jersey for at least one day. We won't bother letting him go for the final 6 points.
Now with just 10kms remaining. a small group of four still leads. It is rapidly depleting though, so they will most likely be caught soon.
Now only 2 kilometres and the SpiderTech sprinter Kevin Lacombe is in the perfect position, being lead out by Guillame Boivin. Said Haddou is on the wheel of David Veilleux, who began his sprint early. I'm about 10 metres behind the action..
And Lacombe wins just ahead of a rampaging Davy Commeyne. Haddou sprints to 9th, while I comfortably roll in at 26th place. David V was 12th.

It's great to see my countryman Kevin Lacombe taking the win, athough we really wish Said Haddou had got a better result. I did well in my sprint after working hard all day, so 26th is good for me.
Tomorrow is the decisive stage, so I can't wait for that.

Vuelta a la Region de Murcia
Today is probably the vital stage of this race, with only 12 kms in the TT tomorrow. Christophe will be protected all day, and hopefully he can cross the line first come the finish. For me, I will just relax in the peloton, but once the mountains come it's just about limiting my losses.
The break of the day was a second-string 13 man group. Their maximum gap was about 7 minutes on a beautiful warm Spanish day.
It was a beautiful day out there, and it was really nice chatting with some of the Spidertech guys who I hand't seen in a while. Me and Guillame Boivin had a really great chat, in French of course.
But now onto the final climb, Mikel Nieve was the first to attack. Anthony Charteau began using his energy to lift the pace and try to chase him down.
A lead group had now formed behind Nieve. Our Charteau and of course Kern were in the group.
The group had been cut down to two behind the still-leading Nieve. Kern and Hugo Sabido were barrelling downhill, but Nieve still had a good gap.
But Nieve held on for the victory! He would have to ride well tomorrow to protect his lead.
Sabido and Kern follow in 40 seconds later. Kern has nearly secured a podium finish now..
And I come down the hill with my teammates 5 minutes later. A good race for me so far..

What a shame Christophe couldn't catch up to Nieve! He rode a great race though, and tomorrows ITT should be interesting..
As for me, I did what I could, but due to my fitness I think my position was pretty good. Tomorrow is my favourite discipline, the time-trial, so I can't wait for that.
