FDJ-BigMat (2012) - February
CLURPR
img822.imageshack.us/img822/1649/teamlogov.png

So I decided to start my own story on PCM 11 and I chose FDJ-BigMat because I wanted something that would give me a bit of a challenge as I have never really played a PCM game before and didn't want to start with an amazing team and win everything!Grin

The team is sponsored by the French National Lottery (FDJ) and French building merchants (BigMat).

Team: FDJ-BigMat
Database: PCM.daily 2012 DB V1
Financial Difficulty: Normal
Race Difficulty: Hard

The Team:

The team is mainly French riders and has a good balance between the young and old. Even though it is not one of the strongest team in the ProTour, it will still be possible to achieve some great results with this team!

Climbers:
img9.imageshack.us/img9/260/climbers.jpg

As you can see, we don't have very good climbers with the highest being 74 OVR. But it isn't too bad as we can still achieve good results and possibly wins in some of the lesser-known races. Casar, Pinot and Jeannesson will be our main leaders in the GT's and longer stage races while Pauriol and Roy will be two of many riders who will support them in achieving our goals in the mountains this season.

Cobble Specialists:
img404.imageshack.us/img404/5586/northernclassics.jpg

Our cobbles riders should give us some great results in the early season classics and maybe we can hope for a Top 10 at Paris-Roubaix. Guesdon will lead the way in most of the ProTour cobbled classics and with Offredo who can also double up as a rider who will be useful on hills. Finally, we have Bonnet who is a relatively good sprinter and if he manages to stay in contention for the win could outsprint his rivals for victory.

Puncheurs:
img444.imageshack.us/img444/6646/punchers.jpg

The second-best group of specialists on our team are the Puncheurs. With this group of riders I think we can hope for some good results in hilly finishes and the Ardennes. Fedrigo will obviously be our leader here and his supporting cast is strong enough in case a crash/puncture happens at the wrong time.

Sprinters:
img856.imageshack.us/img856/5333/sprinters.jpg

Hutarovich is our main sprinter in any race he goes to and we can hope to achieve some good results in the flatter stages with him. But the most exciting riders in this group are Bouhanni and Demare who both are very young and could both potentially become huge sprinting stars, they will be targeting the lesser-known one-day and stage races hopefully gaining some good results along the way and also to prepare them for the step up to some of the bigger ProTour events.

The Sponsors:
img513.imageshack.us/img513/5348/sponsorsj.jpg

Both our sponsors are French so both are expecting some very good results from the French races. FDJ is our main sponsor and with BigMat joining forces with them this year we have a budget over just over £2,000,000 which is a pretty sizeable amount but we have assembled a great team.

img407.imageshack.us/img407/6600/fdjgoals.jpg

These goals from FDJ seem reasonable enough apart from the Paris-Nice Top 10 which could be quite hard to achieve and a Top 5 in Milano-Sanremo I think is impossible with the riders we have got, but everything else I think is very achieveable.

img341.imageshack.us/img341/3496/bigmatgoals.jpg

BigMat hasn't really set us too hard goals to achieve, the only one I think that I would be worried about achieving is the Top 10 in the Dauphine.

(I will upload the pictures to a bigger size for the reports as I have now noticed they probably are a bit too small!)

January

img600.imageshack.us/img600/526/januaryl.jpg

Only 2 races for us in January and we will be looking to score some early points in the ProTour at the Tour Down Under and then maybe some stage wins in the Tour de Langkawi.

AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Road Race:
img689.imageshack.us/img689/8789/roadraceresults.jpg

A pretty comfortable victory for Cadel Evans in the end, denying Gerrans and GreenEdge the Australian Road Race Jersey and their first win as a team.

Time Trial:
img17.imageshack.us/img17/4044/timetrialresults.jpg

Another easy victory for Evans again denying GreenEdge a jersey and a victory. Evans kicks off the season with 2 victories and is a Double Australian Champion!

The Tour Down Under, the place where the cycling season kicks off in style with none other than a ProTour event so early points are up for grabs for the riders who have had a good winter. The 2012 race will be the 14th edition and will start in Prospect and finish 803km later in Adelaide. Normally a sprinters haven, this year features a hilltop finish on Willunga Hill which should definitely decide where the yellow jersey will go at the end of the race.

An impressive lineup for the first event of the year here in Australia. BMC and Sky look to have brought very strong squads. Depending on the fitness of the riders I think it is hard to see past Hushovd (BMC), Fuglsang (RadioShack-Nissan) and Boasson Hagen (Sky) winning this race.

TOUR DOWN UNDER SQUAD

img836.imageshack.us/img836/4965/tdusquad.jpg

img843.imageshack.us/img843/5917/tduroles.jpg

We have a very good squad here which should do well. The only thing that worries me is the fitness of Hutarovich and Casar as they may not be able to perform as well as I had hoped. Obviously our leader is Casar and we will be looking to get him into the Top 10 and a good result on Willunga Hill will help this aim. Hutarovich will be supported by Bouhanni in the sprints, but with Cavendish, Hushovd and many other good sprinters here I think that it will be hard to get a stage win or even a Top 5 at that.

FreitasPCM
Good luck. FDJ is always an entertaining team to play with, and I had that experience. Smile

Wait a minut, you're a French team and you don't ride the Grand Prix la Marsellaise?????

Anyway, good luck with your story, hope you enjoy it the same as I do with mine!

Stage 1 - Prospect to Clare

img839.imageshack.us/img839/2952/s1profile.jpg

A flat stage to start things off which should end in a mass sprint.
Favourites: Cavendish (Sky), Boasson Hagen (Sky), Hushovd (BMC)

img192.imageshack.us/img192/4113/s12qn.jpg

After the peloton kept the pace high at the start of the race, a 4-man break was allowed to form with Hinault (AG2R), Sabatini (Liquigas), Van Poppel (UnitedHealthcare) and Ignatiev (Katusha).

img571.imageshack.us/img571/6514/s13m.jpg

The break was allowed out to a maximum of 5 mins before the peloton, driven by Euskaltel, began to reel them in.

img593.imageshack.us/img593/4038/s14te.jpg

Van Emden (Rabobank) decided he would give it a go and attacked to try and bridge to the other escapees with 29km to go.

img848.imageshack.us/img848/1440/s16l.jpg

But the breakaway did not last the distance on today's stage and were caught with 10km to go as the sprinters teams looked to setup their leadouts.

img201.imageshack.us/img201/6036/s17a.jpg

Three distinct leadouts began to form. Ours is on the far left, Garmin's was in the middle and BMC's train was on the right with Cavendish in Hushovd's wheel.

img687.imageshack.us/img687/4499/s18ww.jpg

But it was Hushovd with the win in what turned out to be a very close finish. Haussler was 2nd for Garmin and Cavendish rounded off the podium. BMC had begun the season nicely! Hutarovich was 9th which isn't too bad considering his poor shape at the start of the season.

Stage 2 - Lobethal to Sterling

img833.imageshack.us/img833/6431/stage2profile.jpg

This stage will feature the riders who are good on hills or a sprinter that has a high hill stat.
Favourites: Fuglsang (RadioShack-Nissan), Nieve (Euskaltel), Hushovd (BMC)

img194.imageshack.us/img194/8821/s21ut.jpg

There were many unsuccessful attacks to start the day but a 14-man break was allowed to go clear in the end, containing Gusev (Katusha), Ferrari (Androni) and our own Courteille (FDJ).

img40.imageshack.us/img40/5411/s23f.jpg

The break reached a maximum of 7 mins advantage before the combined effort of BMC and Lampre began to reel them back in. Hushovd must be feeling very good here at the TDU!

img853.imageshack.us/img853/1044/s25w.jpg

But no! It was Hushovd's teammate, Ballan, who attacks on the downhill section with 10km left to go. None of the favourites have reacted!

img834.imageshack.us/img834/9914/s26p.jpg

And Ballan managed to hold on and win Stage 2! There was nothing that the other favourites could do apart from Bole (Lampre) as the others rolled across the line together. Casar showed some promise today as he crossed the line in 15th but was credited with the same time as 3rd place.
