Its the start of a German HC double header, and the first HC stage race in over 2 months of racing. The Bayern Rundfahrt is upon us.
The defending champion is  Mikhail Ignatiev, who was so dominant last year - winning all 5 of the stage races he entered. This is his 3rd stage race of 2012 though, and he is still searching for a win. Beaten by Boom and Larsson in the Algarve TT, finishing 50th overall, then beaten by Reus, Rolland and Elijzen, ultimately finishing 5th overall in the Czech Republic. He is still the favourite here though, and has strong support in Kiryenka.
The German teams will be out in force though. With key TT wins to their name already, and the ability to keep up in the hills,  Kai Reus and  Lars Boom will be threats for sure - although Reus is hindered by a weakened support, with many of the team riding in the Giro.  Rolland is Puma's best bet - the hilly stages arent the hilliest, so it could all come down to the time trial - but with both Kessler and Wegmann,  Trilux will be hoping that the hilly stages do infact make all the difference.
Looking to build on his consistency already this season,  Koren leads California Giant. 4th in Algarve, 3rd in Czech Republic - what will come here? Other threats include  Konovalovas,  Clement,  Weening,  Elijzen, and  Dall'Antonia.
Top sprinters in the race include home favourites  Greipel, Degenkolb and Haussler, but there is plenty of international competition.  Davis, Van Loocke, Haedo, Docker, Napolitano,  Santos,  Drujon and  Manan are all names to look out for. Clearly, winning one of the two flat stages in this race will not be easy!
The field is packed though, with 17 teams here. Pre-season, Ignatiev would have been expected to nominate. But as the racing so far has shown, anything could happen.

Really tough competition. For a Top5 there has to be a lot of action on the hilly stages. I also hope that Haussler can take a stage win.
My bet for the GC is Boom, followed by Rolland.

This would have been a great race for Larsson, if I only had seen it...... 
Boom, Reus and Ignatiev for the podium, with Ignatiev as a small favourite, I think he "finally" will start winning, both the TT and the overall. |

Reus should just sit with the others during the first stages, then hopefully getting into the top 3 during the TT and no break winning the last stage, then I'm happy.
I need a top 5 as it is a sponsor goal

Finally. Maybe the most important race for me the whole season.
So I hope Boom can bring me the top5 I expect from him.
Gajek surprisingly won`t stand a chance in the sprints but I don`t really care.
Normally a race for Ignatiev if everything runs normal. |

Just noticed I had a squad here! But seeing the competition, we won't set any goals.
But maybe the hilly stages with flat finish can give Dall'Antonia an advantage.

I NEED Konovalovas and Docker to do something - anything- here after how poorly we've been doing in the other races at the moment.
Should be a great contest though, with so many strong riders. Boom or Ignatiev, I reckon.

We completely focus on Rolland here, and I hope that will be enough to keep him in touch before the decisive TT.
A Top5 would be awesome, a Top10 is the least I expect.

Ouch. At least all favourites are within the same time. Hopefully none of them is injured. We might see tomorrow.
Also the gap to the breakaway might give some of them an unexpected high GC spot in the end.
Passeron continues to do well for me. Unfortunately he missed the final kick to win the stage or get the KoM for me. But 2nd is nice result. |

This is going to be a very interesting race, apart from Ignatiev, that is. I believe there's some chances for Nicácio to get a top10 and grab some points to help the team escape last place, and some opportunities for Santos as well.
Very exciting first stage, it promises a lot of thrill in the forthcoming stages. It was great to see my main riders in the right groups, but it's kinda frustrating to see Santos winning the bunch sprint, in a stage where the break stayed clear. Anyway, better luck next time.

What a nice surprise from our young Frenchman! Really a great sprint against strong riders.
Great idea to include Youtube, SN! Helped a lot to get an idea of the situation.
Maybe Bar can hold onto his jersey until the TT, that would surely make this race very successful for us.

I have low expectations. I don't think this one race will prevent my team from plummetting down the standings, especially when we are destined to have a really poor race

This was better than I hoped for, after stage 1. Even in range of top 10 all of a sudden, and 2 riders in top 10 is not bad.
