So, the inevitable question is, will a sprinter or a climber win it?
Blythe isn't here, as otherwise he would be unstoppable, but Froome is and he must be favourite to restore Rapha to order after the 5 day blip in Dunkirk.
Challenging from the Sprinters side, and it's personal between these two teams, it's Impey, who will be tough to gap significantly on the two small finishing hills and who should pick up plenty of time bonuses on the other stages.
For the rest, Bianchi again have their 3 fold threat of Monfort, Claeys and Rabon for the hills, with Ciolek for the sprints, so expect them to feature on every stage, even if these stages are not really hard enough for the 1-2 punch to be effective.
After that the drop off in quality among the hilly riders is clear, with most looking to tougher races to ply their trade. Bauer will be representing local hopes against the likes of Proni and the assortment of hilly specialists Red Bull have pitched up.
The sprints should be more interesting, which is lucky because there are more of them, with Serebriakov and Kennaugh challenging Impey and Ciolek, while Guillen, Crocket and Cooke will also challenge.

I haven`t thought that so many top sprinters are here. So I don`t really expect anything by Baumann.
Also in the overall too many big names. So Hesjedal will need good days.
On the other side many managers might be disappointed as the two hilly stages aren`t really selective imo.
For me Impey would be a good bet but also Rabon must be watched if the team is riding for him.
It wouldn`t surprise me if a breakaway takes the race win and so I am glad not having the strongest team here and good chances of participation there although I am very much surprised by having the 30s as numbers...
And probably all my guesses are completely wrong. Still it`s one of my personal favourite races in real, so I had to send some good guys here instead of just young talents. |

No idea what to expect. Maybe a Top 10 overall if luck is on our side.
Also some good stage results would be nice. Please Mr. Rizza?

One of Oz Cycling's most important races.. plenty of chances for Cooke to grab a stage-win Some big sprinters here, so we of course need some luck and good daily-form. I still believe!
And just like roturn said: those two "hilly" stages most probably won't lead to bigger (any) gaps.. maybe a great sprint will create a short gap, but that's all. But maybe PCM11 proves me wrong, once again

It should be interesting to see how teams work together - I've sent a strong squad and it should be a good battle with a mixture of sprinters and hilly men.
I cannot see the stage suiting breakaways here but then one breakaway is all it will take to win this... Not sure how decisive the two short hill top finishes ones will be positioning I guess will be key.

I thought I raced here, so checked my planner. Seems like I don't. Good luck to you all! I would bet for Impey!

this is the race, where Guillen can show his main strenght, short flat stages would suit him great...regarding to GC, I don´t have any name to shine here...anyway I didn´t expect so strong startlist with many big names presented

Decent start for me. Can`t complain.
A bit unlucky that Kunitski lost some seconds as he could be a second point collector in this race and without really hard profiles it could be decided by seconds if you have a top10 or a top50.
Froome already in a great position. Will be interesting to see how Bianchi is racing if Ciolek takes the yellow with time bonuses. Normally they should go for him then. Also depends if there will be time gaps on the hills mainly due to the defined values in the DB I think.
BTW: Where in the rider ranking does teh +6/7 start? I just see a big bunch of +5 riders. It looks like Impey already might have lost 1-2s here.

Not sure how that happened. Impey is +6, Rothaus start the +7's

I scrolled all the way to the bottom of the startlist to see my team. I thought we had been forgotten.
Turns out Meiji were in the middle of the startlist PCM startlist ranking must have made a mistake

It's a poor performance on the opening day, a few of my big guns better not think this small New Zealand race is beneath them!
But if your going to have a bad day, it is not the worst on a TTT as the differences are only minor. In the short ones it is more about who gets on the front in this case clearly Tennant and Stannard got to the front for Rapha.
I little bit nervous for our positioning going into this next stage - we really need to be mixing it with Bianchi if possible.

What a hell of a sprint by Froome there... congrats to Rapha for another stunning performance!

It was shit for most riders that half of the breakaway blocked the favourites and Froome being the lucky guy coming around in the right moment.
Then I saw Hesjedal was one of the better placed and these bonus seconds and small gaps could be really important. Hope he can stay that high. |

Love this shot:
Coming moments after Froome was in the peloton. He is certainly in form here after Japan!

This may just be the race that wraps up the division win for Rapha over Jayco.

Rapha are just too strong. It's not fair.
But I'll gladly take that 8th place from Santambrogio. Too bad there were no gaps behind him, as that would have made the day even better.
