MTN Loteria del Tacchira
redrobert
Hello!

This is my first try to make a story in PCM. I won't post many pictures, i hope you won't be too disappointed about that. I am using Tinkoffs DB with a few changes. Especially a few more teams and races. Difficulty level is normal. I find this rather ok for me as i don't really micromanage the team during the race. On hard i usually have no chance at all.

But if i find the game is getting too easy i will increase difficulty level.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello world. I just took over a rather weak new continental team called MTN Loteria del Tacchira from Venezuela. I am new to the scene so i am surprised that the owners put their trust in me. It will take some time to get to know the team. I will keep you informed.

After i signed three players from free agency the team is complete for now. Nothing too impressive, but we will see.

i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh580/redrobert81/story1.jpg

A little overview:

Team Captains:

Ivan Dominguez is a 33 year old american sprinter we signed as free agent. He is easily our best sprinter and shall get us a win or two in flat stages. He will be our main guy for podium finishes

Miguel Rubiano was also signed as free agent. The 25 year old columbian has his strengths in the mountains. He probably is not strong enough for a top10 finish in the GC so he will most probably try to win the KOM jersey in south american races

Marlon Perez Arango finally is probably our best shot at the GC of small tours. He is good in mountain, hill, flat and time trials. Nothing spectacular but he can be a surprising weapon if he is on a strong week. With 34 years he is very experienced allready

All the other guys will just help those three. Juan Garcia Rivera might get a start as leading sprinter in a few races

Sponsor and Team goals

Today i have been told the team and sponsor goals. It will be hard to achieve a single one of them.

Sponsor goals

- Top 10 Giro del Trentino
- Top 10 GP Transfagarassa
- Top 10 Gran Premio Bruno Beghelli

Team goals

- Points jersey Vuelta al Tacchira
- Top 10 Vuelta a Colombia
- Top 5 Vuelta a Guatemala

Pretty much impossible to achieve any of them, but we will try for sure

This looks really interesting! A great team for a story - not very strong but some good riders, plus it's not from Europe which makes it more special - and it should be great to see some new races, especially in the South American area. Good luck!

January 2010

In January we will ride two races. First the very important home race of Vuelta al Tacchira later the difficult Giro Calabria.

Australien road champion is no surprise. The ever dominant Cadel Evans won 22 seconds ahead of Heinrich Haussler.

Vuelta al Tacchira

As this is our home race the owner of the team emphasised we should send our strongest possible squad. To have the most important race of the season as first race might not be very easy but it is a honour.

So these are the 8 guys i chose:

Miguel Rubiano
Marlon Perez Arango
Ivan Dominguez
Jesus Del Nero
Mario Costa
Diego Quintero
Pedro Herrera
Wilmar Roldan Ortiz

Rubiano and Arango are the team leaders. Depending who feels better in the mountain stages the other is the last man standing with him. Ivan Dominguez is our only hope of achieving the Objective of the Team to win the sprinter jersey. Del Nero will be sent out regulary into breakaways, maybe winning the KOM on this way. For the Team time trial we sent all our good time trialists.

1st Stage: Team Time Trial San Cristobal

I just simulated the Team time trial. Surprisingly we did very good due to all our TT specialists. We finished 6th only 37 seconds behind the winners. The Stage was won by Sky ahead of Garmin and Radioshack. The dark horses Cafe de Colombia lost quite a bit of time as they reached the finish 1:46 behind Sky.

We did have a quick look on the big names that are in the race. Not too many of them actually, which is good for us:

Fredrik Kessiakov - Garmin
Sergio Paulinho - Radioshack
Oscar Pereiro - Astana
Giovanni Visconti - ISD Neri
Gustav Erik Larsson - Saxo Bank
Ivan Parra Pinto - Cafe de Colombia
Felix Cardenas - Cafe de Colombia

I have not yet seen a big star sprinter, maybe we can win the jersey. The biggest danger as can be seen and expected is Cafe de Colombia who also have a home race

Stage 2: Tariba - Santa Barbara

We sent Del Nero in the breakaway right from the start ... and it was only reeled in 7 km from the finish, too bad he didn't win the only KOM points. In the sprint Dominguez had no energy left, don't ask me why, so i sent Arango forth who finished 2nd behind Nico Eeckhout who was named as one of the stage favourites.

Atage 3: Abejales - Guasdualito

Well today Rodriguez had the legs to win the totally flat stage ... but alas he was stuck a little back and didn't came to the top guns fast enough. Still another Top 10 result. Today we didn't chose to send a guy in the breakaway. The BOTD was reeled in again just a few km before the finish line.

Russian Mironov of the new Team Kalev was the surprising winner of the stage.

Stage 4: El Canton - Cordero

So this is the first test for the GC contenders .. a long but not very steep finish. And it was a rather exciting stage where Rubiano manifested his position as team leader in our team.

Dario David Cioni proved strongest right ahead of Pidgorny and Fuglsang. Those three riders were well ahead of the rest.

i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh580/redrobert81/tachira4.jpg

Saxo Bank draver Larsson was doing a lot of pace making in the climb.

i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh580/redrobert81/tachira5.jpg

Miguel Rubiano was countering every move of Oscar Pereiro and finally beating him a few seconds as my captain finished 4th of the stage.

I am happy the way the stage went, the only problem is that i lost a lot of time to the first three riders, but covering guys like Oscar Pereiro or Ivan Parra is a good thing. We look forward to the even difficulter mountain stages in the near future

Stage 5: Palmira - Coloncito

Another stage for the sprinters, only a small mountain at the start. Dominguez is hoping for the first podium for our team.

i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh580/redrobert81/0002.jpg

Quintero setting high pace at the beginning and winning the only KOM points today.

The mass sprint was great this time and Dominguez had good position, still he was only able to finish 4th - Nico Eeckhout was once again the fastest.

This will be a stage where not much will happen, but a bad day could end all hopes in the GC. Jesus del Nero was able to be in the breakaway today, and this would help him finish in a good position as the breakaway was caught only 10 km before the finish line.

i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh580/redrobert81/0004.jpg

Team Astana is making lots of work for Oscar Pereiro on the final kilometres.

But to no avail as Cioni once again proved strongest in the hill. Miguel Rubiano was in good shape but not good enough to be in the very front. He finished 10th.

So far the tour is going pretty good for us as a rider from our team regulary is in the top 10. Arango ist still the only one to reach a podium though.

But now the big battle will begin, as some hard mountain stages including a mountain TT are waiting

redrobert
i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh580/redrobert81/0005.jpg

This will be the first mountain stage. Now it will be clear who is going to be among to top at the end. We are looking forward to this and hope Rubiano is in good form.

Well Rubiano was in a pretty good form losing not much time but surprisingly our worst mountain rider finished best. Ivan Dominguez was sent out to collect sprint points ... and finally he also finished ahead of Rubiano. Rubiano and Dominguez were part of the first group of 11 riders. Due to that Rubiano moved up in the GC to 8th place.

Fuglang today proved strongest beating Cioni in the sprint.

Team Sky lost a lot of time and 2 riders dropped out of the Top 10. But now the team can concentrate on Cioni. Cioni, Fuglsang and Pidgorny still look strongest. Tomorrow the Mountain Time Trial might change quite a lot. Hopefully we can compete

redrobert
i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh580/redrobert81/0007.jpg

Today a short mountain time trial is taking place. I don't know if we can compete or who are the favourites today. But i know it will be interesting and a long day for the winner.

For a long time Svein Tuft has been the fastest with 27:03. Then there came the big favourite of the day ... Gustav Erik Larsson who set the new best tim 26:30. No one thought anyone could be better than this. Miguel Rubiano came just a little time later ... well in fact a long time later as he needed 28:11. He was on a bad day and starting too slow. Fredrik Kessiakoff finished 12th 41 seconds behind. Astanas captain Oscar Pereiro lost 42 seconds finishing 15th. Ruslan Pidgorny had a rather bad day as he lost 1:02 finishing only 32nd. Next one was Jakob Fuglsang and he put in a great pace only 27 seconds slower than Larsson. Finally the man maillot jaune tried his luck. ANd he did ride a hell of a stage finishing 2nd only 18 seconds late.

This could prove a difficult stage with lots of mountains at the end. We will concentrate on the finish, not sending anyone in the breakaway today.

Rubiano tried everything on the mountains but wasn't able to get away .. so a 60 driver strong group sprinted it out in the end, Rubiano had no energy left after his attacks so we sent Arango. 3 km from the finish he tried an attack, but was reeled in 2 km later. Still he sprinted to a good 5th place.

This stage looks more like a relaxing stage ... but maybe a surprising win could come of this. Astana might try something here as they have a good squad.

It was a great stage for our team though. We sent Del Nero in the breakaway, he won the two mountains. nearly made it to the end but there he had no power left. At the foot of the small climb at the end Rubiano tried it several times, but he wasn't able to make anything, as Astana saw in hime a big danger.

As so often in these cases we brought Arango to the front. He attacked a bit early but made it an won the stage for MTN Loteria del Tacchira.

A stage win in the home tour ... what more could you ask. We won't meat the teams goal in winning the sprinter jersey, but we have a stage win. I am happy with that. Marlon Perez Arango is a hero in our team now

Today starts the queen stage of the Tour. Cerro del Cristo is a steep and long climb at the end of this stage. The only good thing is a flat part during the climb.

Today the tour will be decided, though i don't think anyone can compete with Cioni. The greatest danger will come From danish Jakob Fuglsang
