Okay, this is becoming a trend I like the idea, I want to give one a shot also. Hoping that the unique challenge will get me going.
There are two options for how to make a rider!
Option 1:
Rules:
Base 910 points for an 18 year old rider. Add 10 points to base for each year over 18 up to age 30 anything after that only gets the same as age 30.
Each point of potential (4-8) costs 20 points. You must have at least a potential of 4 which costs 80 points. This will also affect your age of decline, starting at base of 22yo add 2 years for each point of potential. (4 points = age 30, 6 = 34, 8 = 38)
You can have a maximum of 10 points spread between your highest and lowest attribute. This value increases by 1 for every 5 years. (11 at 23yo, 12 at 28yo, 13 at 33yo)
Option 2
Instead of figuring out how to distribute points, just give me the background info from below, along with what you want his potential to be and I will fill out the stat points.
Also I do want some background info, Name, Birthday, Height/Weight Hometown, Background info, Favorite race and Favorite current rider!
Lastly before I kick this off with my rider (to be used as an example also) I'd like to ask for someone willing to do some equipment. I'll do the jerseys, but if someone could get the bikes and rest of the gear (hats/gloves/shoes ect) I'd appreciate it. (I'll send you a message with the team logo).
Okay now for my rider: Jason Befort
Birthday: April 29, 1986 (24 Years Old)
Height/Weight: 5'9" (1.75m), 200 lbs (90.7kg)
Hometown: Houston TX, USA
Favorite Race: Tour de France (lets face it, its the only on that actually is on TV in the US...okay I know we also got the USA Procycling Challenge now, but ... it's not the TDF.)
Favorite Rider: Taylor Phinney, does anyone else have as good of tweets?
Bio: Jason played American Football in highschool, before finding his love of riding. His frame allows him to generate good power, but the weight makes anything uphill a challenge. This will be his first adventure into professional cycling.

Look good and I'll participate if you change just one thing: The spread is too small imo. For young riders, it's okay, but if you want to create an older rider with a certain specialization, e.g. a Voigt kind of rider, the spread pretty much ruins it. Let's say I want the rider to have 79 in flat, then he would need a minimum of 69 in every other stat and that's just not realistic. I know that you want to prevent us from creating riders with strange stats but couldn't you do something like, "add one point to the spread range for every year the rider is older than 18"? So that if I want a 33 year old rouleur like Voigt, to stick with that example, I could make his flat stat 79 and his sprint stat 54?

i can see a hug problem with the rules.
I can make a 25yo with 1 potential, that gives me 1040 points, split between 12 stats means an average of 86 per stat so...

@ Wiley: 850+70-20 =/= 1040 but 900
But that would still be an average of 75 points per stat, which is indeed quite high.

yeah sorry my bad but still all at 75 is not good...
This can be avoided by adding ftr back in, but then if your 18-23 this killes you as u need a minimum if 50 per attribute....
Edit; having looked this over, its not as bad as it seems, just means i can finally be like G.Thomas, yay

Okay, I think we missed the point of this team a bit... I should have asked to be realistic, let me know the last time you saw a rider with 1 potential hit 80 in any stat... heck even 70... My mistake, I gave people the power to do it, anyhow the minimum for potential is now 4. That way the riders will have at least some room to grow, and keep the stats at a more reasonable level for a pro-con team.
To the other note, on the stat split. I really don't want to increase that by much, but I will give some room. You can add 1 point to your split for every 5 years over 18. So at 23 you get an 11 point, 28 is 12 points, 33 is 13 points.

Can't have the 16 point gap between mountain and sprint. But based on the age, you should have some more points to spend anyway. Also please change the potential up, had to put in new rules to stop riders like theses....

Owen Lars
Birthday: December 21, 1981 (I suppose you start in 2011 - he shall be 29)
Height/Weight: 1.77, 68 kg
Hometown: Tataouine, Tunesia
Favorite Race: Dauphiné Libéré. Living in a French colony, he naturally has a focus on French races. The Dauphiné was the first important race he was able to finish in younger years, so he developed a special relation to it.
Favorite Rider: Jens Voigt. He always admired his dedicated fighting spirit with which the German covered his mediocre talent.
Bio: Grown up in a farmer's family, he established a fantastic phyisical consitution through his daily work. Due to the bad conditions in Tunesia, he never really got professional or even semi-professional training but since he was discovered 10 years ago, he compensates his lack of real talent with imense dedication and ambition. After years of slow improvement, he eventually reached the top level and is ready to be the first African to climb on to a Grand Tour podium.

Still don't get why he has to have so much in cobbles or sprint, but okay
Hey just to catch you up on some of the edits I've made, I need a fighter stat now (base is 910). And I gave you some room on splits. The reason I don't want big splits is because they allow riders to specialize and with the point system how it is, you could basically ignore cobbles and fighter and either Sprint or Mountain, and build a very dominate rider. I thought about using a much more complicated system that wouldn't care, but I don't think people would spend the kind of time and effort to make a rider that way.

now im just confused .... Do i have to use 4 pts potential if i dont care if my rider improves, and i dont get how to get my rider to a decline age of 34ish ....
Like the re-addition of ftr ....
Still dont like the grouping rule ... My guy has no need to climb so why do i need to have that within 10 of my best, many many riders dont...
But its your choice, so if you caould just help with my first point thanks
I just want a good time trialist who can cobble who will be instatnly competitive

As far as I understood, a minimum of 4 in potential is mandatory now, and with 4 points there you already decline from the age of 30. If you want the age of decline to be 34, you need at least a potential of 6.
I edited my stats now so they fit to the new rules. I wouldn't mind a complicated way of distributing the stats, btw

Cunego is exactly right. I'm keeping the rules the way they are because I specifically don't want superstars on the team. Forcing people to use points on stats that aren't really useful is the only way to avoid that and still allow players to customize relatively freely.
Also you may not care if your rider improves, but I do... Riders don't just peak at 25 years old and never change.
@Fuglsang, Sorry for all the changes, need you to add in a fighter skill, (you get a 910 point base now)

Instantly competitive on the Pro-Con level, I don't mind. This isn't a win the Tour de France type of team, heck it's not even a go to the Tour de France type of team. I will try and get into one of the Grand Tours, but I'm not going to force the game to accept me.
Here is what I came up with for Jack just doing a quick base on what I think you want.

Not currently, you still need to add a fighter stat, and your over the maximum number of points. At 23 years old, with a potential of 5 you get 860 points to fill out the 13 spots. (Average of 66.15)

I like this rider better, but you used the point values for a 25 year old not an 18 year old. Need to subtract 70 points for the age difference. (It isn't going to be possible to hit the 70s in any stat for an 18 year old with 8 potential, but he will grow very well quickly.)
