I certainly don't think we need a thread just for discussing the team.

They'll use bikes, most likely. |

With a tinge of yellow.

Why not? Is there a shortage of threads.
Personally I'm really looking forward to seeing how they do. I'm excited even just about their team selection for the Tour Down Under.
And the rivalry against Sky will be awesome!

And will lead to many boring stages just as we have seen with HTC for the last number of years... Only now there will be two teams trying to do that every day rather than one.

I'm not sure Greenedge will be able to do what HTC have done just yet, but I don't think it makes for boring racing ...
For me the World Championships this year was really exciting. The Brits road to keep control of the race and everyone else tried to break them. The Aussies were very active in doing this and were only half a wheel away on the line.
And we're only talking about two of the teams. With everyone else competing hard I just don't see how it can be boring. |

I thought the WC were just an abject disappointment from beginning to end. Nothing happened - it may as well have just been a criterium. And GreenEdge is entirely built around Goss. Every other rider in the team is there to just get him to the line. They will achieve exactly what HTC did but will lack the power to finish it off as well as they did. The point remains though, every flat or slightly lumpy stage will be written to the same formula.

I'm afraid you're totally right about that. GreenEdge looks like a boring team to me and Sky will become boring too if they are going to ride like HTC.
@Tebs17
How is any race exciting when there isn't even the slightest chance that the stage doesn't end in a mass sprint? This year's WC is one of the most boring races I've ever seen.

If anything, it seems like theyll be heping Sky as they wont have much choice but to help chase down the breakaways on flat stages if they want results.

I'm afraid that's pretty spot on. I think that, with GreenEdge, a team as boring as HTC but half as successful is born. And maybe half as successful is too optimistic for them.
But hey, they'll win lots of stages in, ehm, how did you call them Mark?

I'm still not convinced that the HTC model makes for boring racing. When it all goes wrong for them it can make for an exciting race ... take Milan San Remo this yea, after the accident it was exciting to watch (yes I'm aware that in the end they won it anyway .. which rider was that? And who's he racing for next year?) the last 15-20 mins were great to watch.
But I do agree that at the moment, on paper, Greenedge don't have the talent to mix it with the more established teams, certainly not in the big races.
I'm hoping they can perform above expectations, win some smaller races, mix it up in the bigger races. Make Sky work for the wins in the flat stages. It's what I'd expect from my own team in PCM. |

PCM ? It's PCM... nothing compared ( especially controlling the peleton with your team on flat stages, even as a favourite you don't need to help really much or at all in flat stages ) to real cycling.... GE and Sky will work together, but GE only chance of victory at Tour etc. is in mass sprint, so they will HAVE to work. GE will get few victories, but nothing big imo.

Yes, and what was HTC's contribution to that exciting MSR? Yep, nothing.

Greenedge does have Tuft and Beppu so they will get a lot of wins....
Why do I keep hearing Goss?
Seriously though, Greenedge will only win the odd sprint and a lot of TT's.
