Giro del Trentino Discussion

So the Continental Tour has been good, but there have been rumblings that its getting a bit dull now we are into classics season. I mean all this flat stuff and fake mountains, what's the point?

This is emphasised even more by the leader of the continental tour. Bellis is an ok rider I guess, but he seems to have picked up all his points while on a caravan trip round South Africa. Which you totally would have seen if you had been there.

The balance is readdressed today, 20 teams, 3 decisive stages, one dull one I guess, but even that has a mountain in it. The Bellis issue will be dealt with as well, with both Alarcon and Valverde here to show how real men climb.

Or they would be if Valverde hadn't run scared after Alarcon got the better of him last time around. So instead, up to challenge Alarcon, are the best of the continental tour, bar Valverde. Pozzovivo, Van den Broeck, Rujano, Caruso, Duarte. The list goes on.

This will be epic.

Need I say more?

This one should definitely be epic. I'm hoping for a podium from Alarcon here, would be great, as he will probably loose a minute on the opening time trial. I'm thinking Pozzovivo will win, he has a good time trial, and he's in his home country, but obviously, Van den Broeck and Rujano should be watched aswell. And then there's all the other great climbers.....

Yeah, should definitely be epic! Smile

Epic? Yes! I'm not racing here, either. And I think that is good.

Very glad that I decided not to send Igor Anton where after seeing the startlist, hopefully Colorado doesn't crash again Rolling Eyes But very happy just to see my team in action (Its been a while).

I really hope Marzano could be able to do well, atleast he got the nationality bonus

That is a great startlist. I should have sent Ruijgh here. Sure top10 for him after Corsica.

Good luck for all. Rujano, Alarcon, Pozzovivo for me.

This should be some really good racing. Too bad the flat stuff and fake mountains have almost ended though Sad

Just got to hope Pozzovivo being in Italy is able to hang with Alarcon. A few +5 days in the mountains and the nationality bonus would do just fine. Pfft

You go and show them Lövkvist! Grin

Should be a fascinating race, stage 2 looks marginally tougher than the last so it should be interesting to see how teams play it tactically after the TT.

Alarcon is a cut above on the mountains, I think he will win again and Duarte/Rujano could hurt the Italians and vdb also.

I'm starting to regret picking this as my win goal. Well, well, I'll hope for a miracle.

It's between Pozzo, Alarcon and Duarte I think. Caruso maybe for a Top 5 if he's lucky with daily form.

Regardless of the outcome, this does look to be an exciting race in the making. So many big names. Van Der Velde may be out of his depth, but I'm looking forward to the race nonetheless.

Alarcon will most likely be unstoppable again.

Niemiec a bit disappointing, while Caruso being the opposite. Decent start for us.

That was a bit better than expected from Alarcon, hopefully that's a good sign the next stages. Stannard definitely got what he came for, congratulations to Rapha!

Things you don't hear: I'm heading to Trentino to win the time trial

Pfft

Thats exactly why Im in this race! Job done Stannard - Tennant unlucky to be an early starter, he could probably have done better than 5th on another day.

Well no-one was anywhere near Stannard there, quite clever really getting in there with a specialist. Stannard isn't really a GC man for anything involves any lumps at all!

Should be interesting to see whether the GC favourites go all in on the first mountain stage. Pirelli may well be able to maintain control for VdB until near the top, we'll see though Alarcon could just blow it apart as well.

Exactly why Stannard is racing here and not in 'more conventional' TT races such as Bayern-Rundfahrt, no GC hope in either, better stage hope here.

Same reason I sent Kovalev, he was so far under the radar that mb didn't even get a picture
