Nokere - Koerse Discussion
SportingNonsense
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/2012%20Routes/koerse.png

Its the first opportunity for the continental riders to battle it out over the cobbles, and on paper it shouldnt be the hardest cobbled races this year - the main test being a down and up cobbled section inside the final kilometre.

But in reality, the race can still be torn apart. Last year Vanspeybrouck won by attacking with a lap to go, and holding off the chase of Steegmans, Blythe and Gusev. The year before that, again we had a solo winner in Enrico Franzoi. The race can come down to the final climb though - as it did in 2009 with a win for O'Grady.

IKEA may be gone, but the duo of Vanspeybrouck and Albert remain, further strengthened by Maes as part of Team Bpost's lineup. They lead the Belgian challenge, along with Pokerstars' Nolf.

Adam Blythe will also be a force to be reckoned with once again, while Langeveld and Veelers lead Koppert's Dutch contingent, and for France it is Focused's Gaudin and Trilux's Coyot.

But if it all stays together and comes to a charge up the final hill, Saab could also bring Hushovd and Breschel into play. And then theres the expensive sprinter Vantomme of Rothaus. Rather than start his season in the flat sprinter classics, like most other sprinters, he starts it in a cobbled race!

This should be a great one. I'd say Bpost are the favourite, strongly challenged by Blythe. Hopefully there will be lots of attacking.

Looking forward to it!

Here start bposts season, can they accept anything Else than winning?

Edit: on gf's iPad, it is on nowegian and likes to fix my spelling

Yeay. What have I thought to take part in this race? I really don`t know. Probably I had some PCM09 Nokere-Koerse in mind without cobbles or so.

So I just can hop for a succesful break with Willems or even Vantomme himself. Wink

I will actually cheer for Vantomme in this race Grin Just for the sake of it

I get the feeling with 2 incredably powerful teams in Bpost and Pokerstars that the CTour cobbled races will be a bit more controlled.

The big question mark for them though is can they drop the cobblers who can sprint namely Blythe, Breschel and Hushovd? Or even Giaux and Vantomme?

I think Bpost and Pokerstars will have plenty of numbers in the top 20, but can they get men onto the top step of the podium?

I'll go for a Breschel win. (actually my brain says Blythe but surely not Rapha again!)

Talking about cobbler teams you surely forget Koppert, who are similar strong than Pokerstars imo. Also Trilux must be mentioned although they miss the big cobble star.

I would say that Belgium haveing the highest number of riders were as big a suprise as Vantomme haveing the highest salary :-p

Cheering for Blythe just because Wink head says Bpost wins though.

Let's hope that a full third of my budget spent on cobblestone riders proves worthwhile...

I worry that it may not be tough enough though and that Blythe can take it in a sprint.

No surprise my team is the oldest. It´s good enough to get a Top10 plus (hopefully) another rider in the Top20 but it shouldn´t be mentioned in one row with Bpost etc.
Let´s see what the gameplay does with Bpost squad, as they should take the win here.

roturn
Not in one row with the other 3. But with all of your riders being 70+ cobblers, you can expect them to do very well here, too.

ember
Second thoughts now, and I think we will see a successful attack from either a Bpost or a Pokerstars.com rider, or a move containing one from each of those teams. They clearly have the two strongest teams, and how many other strong team mates will be in the front group when either a Bpost or a Pokerstars rider attacks? Lets say Nolf and Vanspeybrouck attacks together on the final kilometers, I can't see anyone catching them, meaning the sprint behind will be about minor places.

But this should be wide open, as the profile probably suggests a bunch sprint. When do you, SN, plan on having the race report ready for us? Smile

beagle
Nolf most likely can´t compete with Vanspeybrouck on this circuit, profile is too hard. I will be happy with podium + some more TOP10 places with rest of team up to TOP25...maybe my team will finally wake up here?

Better read as: Where Vantomme is the worst of all leaders. Wink

Again???
Ruijgh in Corsica and Vantomme here. My riders seem to have a great form at the moment. Maybe Vantomme can prove most critics wrong and show his full potential this season.

In general a pretty weird race with too less and too easy cobbled sections to make the race very selective. But nevertheless I had more expectations for this race to be dominated by the big classic teams.

Luckily for these teams the next two cobbled classics should be much more selective with all the uphill pavement sections and harder hills. Also the first stage of De Panne seems to be much harder than this classic.
