Welcome to my second effort at story writing, in which I take the place of a control team and report from the season's action. I hope you enjoy reading about the story and feel free to comment.

2009 Season
After spending weekends planning and editing various databases for my second shot at story writing, I ended up opting for a simple database. Most of the edits are just personal alterations whilst the stats and rosters are almost the exact same as the original database.
Originally I had planned to make full reports from every ProTour race. However I've since changed my mind and after Paris-Nice you will find that only the Grand Tours will have these "full reports" although the other races won't be forgotten.
2009 Team Presentation
It should be noted that in April I edited some of the top rider's stats a little so the stats bellow could be a little inaccurate.

Stage 1
Norwood - Mawson Lakes : 140km
The first escapees of the year are Sulzberger, Tosato, Elmiger, Dumoulin, Sentjens.
With 11km to go Terptra goes down right at the front of the pack and takes down a sea of riders with him! Fallen riders include Freire, Gerrans and Ciolek whilst Van Avermaet, Hunt, Brard and Pauwels all have to abandon with their injuries.
Dumoulin is last caught at 7km left and as the sprint begins Roelandts is swarmed by 3 Vacansoleil riders at the front...
Cooke and Marcato pull away and Pozzato is coming up fast behind...
And it is Pozzato who pulls through and takes the win ahead of Milram's Forster.

Stage 2
Hahndorf - Stirling : 148km
On the descent before the finishing climb, Gutierrez, Sanchez, Pozzato, Freire, Ballan and Duque all begin to pull away from the pack...
The peleton almost succeed in bringing them back but as the sprint begins they seem to pull away again. Freire looks well positioned on Sanchez's wheel...
But Sanchez miracoulosly holds Freire off to beat him to the line using his 59 sprint! Meanwhile Pozzato maintains his race lead and the front group are accredited with a time gap to the peleton.

Stage 3
Unley - Victor Harbor : 136km
Terpstra, Van De Welle, Isasi, Kuschynski, Dyachenko, Barry, Krivtsov, Bandiera all join the break. At the final mountain sprint they have a lead of 2 minutes...
And with 3km to go it looks like they will make it. Dyachenko tries to move away...
But under the banner he is passed by Barry. Krivtsov is also coming up fast on his right.
Barry holds on for a win for Columbia. There are no time gaps in the end so Pozzato retains the lead.

Stage 4
Burnside Village - Angaston : 143km
Bernuci, Hulsmans, Sentjens and Sebastien Chavanel are in the break today. They are caught with 12km to go.
At the 3km mark young Boassan Hagen has pulled away a little from the peleton, can he hold on?
Unfortunately not as Duque goes past.. Pozzato and Ballan are lurking...
Duque holds off the others with a powerful sprint to the line!

Stage 5
Snapper Point - Willunga : 148km
Today we could see attacks on the final mountain to decide the G.C... can Pozzato hold onto his race lead?
On the first climb Duran, Wiggins and Scheirlinckx make hopeful attacks. The two breakaway riders, Perez and Hammond, are 2 minutes up the road.
Simon Gerrans is the first man to attack on the last climb. The likes of Chris Horner, Roche and Voeckler counter.
Most of these attacks don't succeed. But 20km from the finish, it is Jufre, Pineau, Bertolini, Txurruka and Marcato have a little less than a minute on the Caisse-led peloton.
16km from the finish and Spartacus (29 seconds back in GC) has a dig... this could be dangerous for Pozzato.
9km from the finish, Marcato, Cancellara, Jufre and Txurruka have 40 seconds. Marcato has 2 seconds on all the others in the GC.
Langeveld makes a late attack and somehow flies across to the front group who now look certain to make it...
Cancellara powers past the others to take the victory and from the looks of it he wins the TDU in the process with just a flat criterium tommorow.

I really thought Pozzato would make it, he won the TdU in two of my savegames so I guess it's a race that suits him... Still, good ride from the escapees.

This year the Tour of Luxembourg has been moved up to the World Tour and has been shunted back to February to link the early season to the bigger stage races... The race is somewhat hilly, starting with a prologue, although the route stays fairly low-lying throughout.
Favourites include Juan Jose Cobo, Carlos Barredo and Chris Horner.

Stage 2
Luxembourg - Mondorf : 174.4km
13 riders joined the break today.
There is a massive amount of attacks in the final 20km. This included the likes of Gerrans and Horner.
Heading into the finish, there is a big group of 22 at the front. This includes Sorensen, Horner, Fedrigo, Gerrans, Gasparotto and Cobo. Martin is further back.
Sorensen ended up leading them all the way to the line ahead of Horner and Iglinsky - I've no idea how he managed to get into all three of those screenshots

Stage 3
Schifflange - Differdange :187.4km
The early attacks fail to succeed. Midway through the stage Sieberg, Capecchi, Hoogerland and Tankink escape but are caught at the 15km mark.
Boasson Hagen set Reynes up perfectly but in the end it was Pichot who took a closely contested sprint for BBOX.

Stage 4
Wiltz - Diekirch : 155.4km
The penultimate stage is probably the best chance for someone to challenge Sorensen's jersey... let's see what happens.
On the penultimate climb Fedrigo and Martinez attack. The yellow jersey decides to respond. Many others counter Sorensen whilst Cobo, Roche and Barredo respond on the descent.
The peleton ends up swallowing up all of these attackers at the final mountain sprint except Capecchi. However up the road things are looking good for the day's break - Boom and Miholjevic have decided to go solo and have 2 minutes on the peleton.
On the descent, Gasparotto slips away from the peleton and makes his way up to Capecchi. He has a 30 second advantage with 9km to ride... if he holds on he could take the leader's jersey.
At the finish line, Miholjevic darts away from Boom to take the stage victory, but what is happening further down the road..?
Gasparotto comes across the line 1'40 later and it looks like he has taken over the race leadership.
But in a turn of events, it turned out whilst I was so busy concentrating on what was going on behind, the break had made enough time from the peleton: the new race leader - Wladimir Miholjevic!

Stage 5
Mersch - Luxembourg : 95.4km
Any rider wanting to steal the overall win from Miholjevic will have to attack on this final short stage although the terrain doesn't favour any attackers as much as they might like...
20km from the finish Martinez attacks and prompts a response from Tjallingi and Cobo. The leading group of escapees have over 2 minutes.
Quite a few riders attack on the final climb, unsurprisingly, such as Gutierrez and Sorensen.
Things start to get messy at the front and the yellow jersey decides to take matters into his own hands. With 5km to go it is looks like it is Kern from the break who is in the provisional lead. Liquigas may be about to get a taste of their own medicine.
Barry takes the sprint out of the 14 man break (his second WT sprint victory of the season). But is it someone from the break or someone further down the road who will claim overall victory?
A disappointed Miholjevic crosses the line with the peleton... over 3 minutes after the break! Post-race results suggest the victory has gone to Danny Pate from the break after Liquigas' shambolic chase.
Stage Results
1 | Michael Barry | TEAM COLUMBIA - HIGH ROAD | 2h12'48 | 2 | Dries Devenyns | QUICK STEP | s.t. | 3 | Paul Martens | RABOBANK | s.t. | 4 | Daniele Pietropolli | LPR BRAKES FARNESE VINI | s.t. | 5 | Danny Pate | GARMIN - SLIPSTREAM | s.t. | 6 | Ricardo Serrano | FUJI - SERVETTO | s.t. | 7 | Johnny Hoogerland | VACANSOLEIL PRO CYCLING TEAM | s.t. | 8 | Massimilliano Mori | LAMPRE - N.G.C | s.t. | 9 | Francesco Ginanni | SERRAMENTI PVC DIQUIGIOVANNI | s.t. | 10 | Iñigo Landaluze | EUSKALTEL - EUSKADI | s.t. |
It turns out that the final top 10 ended up being compromised purely from that breakaway. Well, attackers often have a tough life but today was an example of why they should never give up.

The race turned out to be an interesting change to the norm but I think that as a whole next year it will probably return to the Continental tour, and I'll try to make some better calendar adjustments next season instead.
