Your Football

It is obvious there are many footie fans here and I would hazard a guess to say i'm not the only fan that actually plays football. Plus we have a "Your Cycling" threadWink

Anyway I play for Wigginton Grasshoppers U16's and tonight is going to be my first training session of the season after us coming 4th in Division 2 last year. Neil (manager) rang up last night to remind me about training, but also said we had a game on SundayShock

So, we have 1 training session and we are straight into the friendlies. He also told me that the season starts on the 7th SeptemberShock

That's even worse as we train once a week, that means we will have 2 training sessions and 1 friendly before the new season, not exactly the best pre-season ever planned.

Anyone else play football for a team, any experiences, whatever, just post themPfftWink

I played football until I was 11, and I scored my best ever goal on my last saturday morning session. I was on the right hand side of the pitch, on the edge, halfway between the corner kick place and the halfway line, I aimed to cross the ball, but it went in the goal instead Pfft

Forced to do football at school, but noone tries very hard. (Cause football sucks)

Almost the same story as Isso. I stopped playing football at 13/14 and started playing the American variant of football instead Wink I stopped with that 4 years later though (= this year), simply because I didn't have the time for it.

that's what we are like at lunch and break at school, but if noone brings a ball it gets a bit boring

i am completley unfit for the new season though, and the extremeley short pre-season won't exactly helpPfft

were you any good isso?

HOG, near Aarhus, Denmark.

We play in the Danish Serie 3 (the 7th best league in Denmark...) and look forward to promotion as we're number 1. Our lead is not many points, so it will be a season filled with excitement...

hey, I never said I don't play. just stopped being all the time then.

if I'm any good?
well, I'm the guy who gets extremely pissed at anyone who isn't performing tactically.
then when I'm playing, I'll be the guy who dribbles all the time Grin

If I was there, I would yell at myself Pfft

basically a few friends of mine play in lower divisions (played youth at Boavista, Porto, etc. but ended up released, as 99% of all guys do)

I've got more dribbling skills and technique than all of them put together.......and nothing else Pfft

how old are you Bala, if you don't mind?

@isso, every team needs a dribblerPfft

i take it there wasn't much of an end-product though?

and yes most players tend to get released, my mate Marco got scouted for Sheff Wed but had to stop because it was too far to travel 3 times a week, and then he got scouted by Leeds but got released.

I know a lot of people that play for York City and haven't been released but that's not worth bragging aboutPfft

Addy: Why did you think I wasn't interested in football? I'm very interested in football. I just like American football and cycling more Pfft

By the way, I actually played at a quite high level at a point -- for KB's 2nd team. KB is the youth team of Denmark's best football club, FC Copenhagen. I wasn't interested in investing that much time of my life in playing football, and neither do I think I was talented enough to play at that time, but oh well .. I was there, and I can say that I did have a peak in my "career" Grin

i just thought that because you and Sporting have never ever ventured into posting in the favourite team thread, so i guessed you probably didn't have an interest in football, my badPfft

but you must've been quite good to have been scouted for KB 2nd teamB)

I used to play for Bristol City Academy, but all of the guys except a few were right nob-ends so I quit because they were all against me even though i was better than them!!! I then played for Shire Colts F.C. in Division 2 of the Avon League and was the best player there by a long way. We came 4th in that season, then we got promoted last season as we finished 1st, but i quitSad, because i needed to do more cycling and didn't think that i would miss it much. How wrong i was...

I tried once to enter a team (Cova da Piedade) but I realised I couldn't because i suffer from asmaSadSad. Like isso i played football all day. Right now i don't play that often but still play sometimesPfft. A challenge to isso: try to dribble me because some people say that i could be the next John TerryGrinGrinGrin.

About the releasing stuff, i know guys that are in Benfica, and I know stupid (maybe) guys that played really, really, really well, they were in great teams like Porto, Benfica and then decided to quit because they weren't interested anymore.

I'm 19. So 2nd year senior. Dunno if it's the same in UK. Sounds like you have some talent Addy. I used to play with Danilo Arrieta when we were 11-14, and I've played In-Door with Leon Andreasen (Werder Bremen) and Tommy Bechmann (Bochum) when I was a small kid. I always expected them to take-off for Germany, then I'd be the one to wind up at Barcelona! Nah... The usual story, when the coaches start screamin at you and expect you to train four times a week, never drink and take 500 sit-ups a day...

The recent funny experience is to see Mike Tullberg - striker in the local top division club - be offered to Reggina for approx. 1 million euro. He was crap when we were kids!
