Although the home riders will have been motivated to show themselves on the Bastille Day stage to Luz-Ardiden, today's run between Pau and Lourdes appears to suit them better. Not only is there no summit finish on this Pyrenean day, but it only features the climb of the Aubisque. Although a Tour classic, its summit is 50km from the finish. Add all that together and the Tour's leading performers are sure to keep their powder dry, which should give French riders the opportunity they need. Fédrigo has won twice on stages like this while Voeckler has impressed too.

Well....Almost 50 km from the top of the Aubisque to the finish.. If some of the main sprinters can make it back to the peloton in the descent, their teams may try to go for a mass sprint.. Rojas, Hushovd, EBH, Gilbert, I think they may have a chance... |

I'm hoping for a breakaway win now, as the big guns most likely won't try to do damage to each other. A big breakaway, fighting for the win would be nice to see.
But after seeing today's stage, OPL might fancy Gilbert's chances, depending on the pace on Aubisque, if they do, he has good oportunities in getting 20 points on the green jersey.
Though, a stage where mainly HTC keeps it together to the intermediate sprint would be nice. Then there will be a huge fight of making the breakaway which most likely will win.
Anyway, it should be an interesting stage to watch. |

Would be nice to see Rojas in a breakaway. Imo he should try, for the points on the intermedia sprint, but also because he is pretty strong in the mountains, so he would maybe have a chance for the stage victory. |

Don't think HTC would let Rojas go. Almost sure of it.

There was a stage similar to this in 09 where LL Sanchez won in the break and Rojas came 3rd with the peloton. Hopefully Movistar can put pressure on the climb and eliminate most of the sprinters, but sadly that probably wont happen.

Wouldn't be so sure as both Rojas and Gilbert might want to drop Cavendish in order to put some pressure on the green jersey. Especially Gilbert ha sshown he can keep up a high pace across a big col for a long time and he has got some good teammates.

Actually I find this stage interesting. Altough the Aubisque comes 50km prior to the end I think it will be quite unpredictable since the descent ends with only ~10km to the finish line, which means there won't be much space to do the chase.
Unless obviously the leaders insist that the whole peloton reaches the top of the Aubisque together. That will probably result in a bunch sprint I think.

This stage can be potentailly really interesting. Everything looks really good for the breakaway, but some teams (Leopard, Liquigas, BMC) will maybe try to put some pressure on Contador. But the queen stage of this year's TdF is on the next day, so I don't expect much action from the favourites. So I expect that the breakaway will win. A rider like Hesjedal, Fuglsang, Pineau or Moinard will take this stage.
