Hey Guys! This is my first PCM story, so it should be interesting. I am not sure how long this will last, but a positive response will probably mean I continue it for longer. And I know that this is only PCM 2010, but it’s still fun! Don’t expect too many race screenshots, as I have a tendency to just focus on the racing and ignore everything else!

My apologies, it is the Qantas - Telstra Team!

First Press Release

Hello fans of international cycling! Some amazing news has come about the future of Australian Cycling. I have been charged with putting together the best of Australian cyclists into one team. Our major sponsors, Qantas and Telstra, have both invested an incredibly large amount of money for this to work, and many cyclists lunged at the opportunity to represent their country. I have been given to major, long term goals that they would like achieved:

1. Top three in the Tour de France
2. Develop young Australian talent and introduce them to the world of professional cycling (permanent)

Qantas, an Australian airline company, has decided to promote themselves internationally. They are well known for top quality service, and will have put up most of the money needed for this team to work. They have signed on for several years, and we hope that we have a strong and successful relationship with them.

Telstra is already well known in cycling, working with sponsoring the SANTOS Tour Down Under. They have provided most of what was left for financial backing. They have also signed on for several years, and hope for a successful season. They haven’t done it as much as to promote their company, an Australian telecoms provider, but as to promote Australian cycling.

Our squad is being finalized now, with many young talents being signed. Another update to come!

I just started my first one in PCM10 stories as well like 30 minutes ago. Sounds promising. Is your team going to be all Australians or will you have some international riders? When can we see the team list? Smile

The Squad Announced!

With the squad finalized, it is time for our second press release! But with this great news, there also comes some bad. Unfortunately, the UCI in their infinite wisdom has not granted our wishes for a ProTour license. It just means that we have to work hard to win one, but the riders and sponsors are strong willed to have a great season nether-the-less.

Anyway, to the team! There have been some strong signings, and we are looking forward to a successful season. To make this team work, we have pulled in some young and old international riders, bringing much needed firepower to the team. They are more than happy to race in a new Australian Team!

Team Leaders
These are the riders that we hope will be at the fore front of racing this season:

Sylvain Chavanel:
A strong, all round rider. He hopes (as do we) to do well in many of the classics, and some smaller stage races. Even though he is in a leader role, he said that he is more than willing to support some of our other riders. He is also bringing some much needed experience to the team.
img59.imageshack.us/img59/928/sylvainchavanelx.png

Mathew Goss:
A young Aussie sprinter who has shown some serious promise. He is a real strong man, and can ride hills well. We gave him the opportunity to get out of the shadow of Mark Cavendish and develop himself as a rider. Although young, he handles pressure well, and has lunged at the opportunity to become a team leader.
img694.imageshack.us/img694/8903/mathewgoss.png

Richie Porte:
Another young Aussie as a leader in the team. He has shown some serious promise as a future GC contender, and will most likely be the rider we try to develop over the next few years to win the tour. This year, he will be riding smaller tours, and time trials. He has notified us that he wouldn’t mind having a crack at the Amgen Tour of California, but isn’t worried if that doesn’t happen.
img228.imageshack.us/img228/3156/richieporte.png

Key Riders

These riders are key riders to the team that aren’t leaders. They will be key to this year’s success.

Janez Brajkovic:
The Slovenian rider is key to the support and structure of the team. He will be racing the smaller tours and one day races, but will be spending most of his time in a supporting role. He is a very experienced rider, and our younger riders (who make up most of the team) can, and will, learn much. At 27 years of age, he is at a prime, and actually turned down a leading role in the team, his reasoning being “I don’t want the pressure of being a team leader. I will lead the team, but in a smaller and more mentoring manor. I will happily ride as a leader in smaller races. Anyway, Richie Porte is a better, younger, fitter rider that deserves the position more”. What a very modest rider.

Mathew Lloyd:
Another experienced rider on the squad, we also is an Aussie. He will be a key rider in the hills, and has devoted a lot of his time to help put the team together, scouting, riding with, and training with a lot of the younger riders on the squad. Already has been a key member of the squad, and we can expect him to be very influential rider in the team.

The rest of the squad!

This is the rest of the squad, all young riders. All have potential in some way or another, and are not all Australian riders surprisingly!

You need to remove the last / from the pic links ;-)

Also, I suggest that you preview your posts before posting them Smile

Apart from that, a nice start, and I like the team. Not too strong, but interesting

Secondary Sponsors

As our Primary Sponsors were not able to fully cover the costs of running a professional cycling team; we are discussing the potential of some smaller companies getting their name out there! They will obviously have their own goals, but we have a month the get this finalized.
More updates with sponsors, and the opening races of the season, soon!

DaBobScotts
Sponsors!

We are pleased to announce some secondary sponsors for our team!

Fosters Larger
Fosters Larger is an Australian brewery that has some international ties that wants to improve its fan base! They have promised a large amount of money that was missing from our bank account. They have high hopes for the Amstel Gold Race.

Century 21
Century 21 is a local real estate agency that is providing a largish sum of money. They hope to improve their local awareness and popularity through the Australian squad. However, they are looking at going international, and have high hopes for the Scheldeprijs.

Vodafone

The British telecoms company, Vodafone, has also jumped on board. We have no British riders, but they are here due to their Australian ties. The Vattenfall Cycle Classics are what they wish for us to aim for. Vodafone has come on board with Telstra due to the recent Telstra – Vodafone buy out within Australia (fictional).

Equipment
As far as equipment is concerned; Cervelo, Mavic and LAS have decided to jump on board. All of these manufactures have not given us top equipment, other than Cervelo, as they are not sure of the team yet and don’t want the financial commitment in a non-successful team. Hopefully, they will see the light and come across to the team.

Team Goals Finalized!

Due to the confirmation of all our sponsors, we now have a list of goals that they want us to achieve.
img96.imageshack.us/img96/1293/sponsorsgoals2010.png

As expected, Telstra has high hopes for the premier cycling event in Australian racing. We plan to achieve this via long breakaways. Of course, we have applied for a wildcard, and how can they not allow a team like this from Australia to compete?

As part of our goals for this season, our sponsors want us in the ProTour for next season. This means we need to be consistent in some of the smaller races over the season. Other than our goals, we won’t be racing many ProTour races to allow us the best possible chance to get into the ProTour.

First Results, Australian Championships
Many are expecting us to have a strong result here, However, there is no pressure on our team to perform here, as we have no fitness and a strong team of young sprinters. Richie Porte and several of the younger riders are putting a lot of pressure on themselves for this race.

The TT
The TT provided some average results for the team, but we are happy regardless. Three riders in the top ten (just!) is a good result as far as we are concerned. We are looking forward to the road race in a few days’ time.
img546.imageshack.us/img546/1984/australiantt.png

The Road Race
The first road race of the season. Our boys are keen for some strong results, but are hesitant of their form. It will provide a bulk of the team to gel together in a race situation if everything else fails.
The race was successful for us, with another three in the top ten! Hopefully, this is just the start of a brilliant season!

Wildcard for TDU

We are pleased to announce that we received a wildcard into the ProTour! This is an important milestone for the team. We were one of nine teams to submit a dossier for the privilege to participate in the first ProTour race of the season.

The other teams to receive a wildcard were Cofidis, Farnese Vini and Geox. Good luck to these teams and all others racing the TDU. A start list for our squad will be released soon.
