Just turned the tv on and saw the women were playing. Not bad soccer, but I guess it was a shocker Germany lost to Japan. I don't really know the rankings, but apparently Germany hadn't lost in the 21st century. Anybody closely following the tournament?
I watched quite a lot of games. Not the level of men`s sport, but they are playing pretty well actually.
I just watched Germany - Japan and was annoyed so many times that I could play better than them. It was really not nice to watch today. Lots of bad passes and weird shots.
I followed about 70% of the game, missed the goal though, but it was a shocker that the Japan team won actually, in addition that Germany is one of the best national teams in the world, and also playing home, this was an amazing result for Japan. Not deserved at all, but quite fun for us who allways support the underdougs
A bit sexist, but I agree. The amount of errors was crazy. I hope they don't play like that every game.
On a side note it was funny to see that Japanese player, #10?, get kicked in the.....and have to be carried off in the stretcher. The commentator didn't want to say where she got kicked and just said "that one must hurt"....hehe
I've watched some games of the group stage. Germany losing was the biggest surprise yet. Although I've only watched one game, against Canada, they didn't seem to play as good as they did in previous years.

The germans surely never reached their form during this tourney (and Nigeria and the refs did their best to destroy them further). But then again, men football players are not that good either, most games are lost due to individual errors not won because of superb offensive play.
But aside of this particular game, I really like women football, they are not on the absurd level of hidden fouls as men are, so it is more like football was meant to be.
But I've seen Marta diving a lot, which Messi doesn't. Quite an awful behaviour from her in the game I watched.
Imo, the two general problems of women soccer are the lack of consistency in pass play, and the lack of overview ("opening" the field with a long pass, anticipating paths of team mates...).

True, but actually I hated Laudehr`s behaviour, too. Not just today. After every touch she is falling on the ground and waiting for the foul or even a yellow card. She makes it much worse than it actually was. Today she did it 3 times after very small fouls and 2 times the ref picked the yellow.
USA...USA...USA, on to the finals. Very interesting if they have to play Sweden again. Either way I agree with everyone that this gets hard to watch since we are so use to the mens game.

The Japanese ladies are my favorites since I saw their first match. They play football like it should be played and most male teams could learn from them. They are never nervous, control the ball, make wonderful opening passes and have an eye for their team mates and the overall situation.
Edit, I forgot: And they all can dribble like messi.

I also liked their first match. But I think this one was also their best.
But without Germany and Brazil everything is possible. But USA convinced me the most with just 10 players against Brazil.
Btw: Just saw that Japan beat Sweden 3:1, so it will be an interesting final for sure. -.-
