Le Tour de France 2011
Stage 1 - Passage du Gois > Mont des Alouettes 191km
Stage Info (from cyclingnews.com)
The Tour starts with a road stage rather than the traditional prologue time trial and with an uphill finish too. The day starts in unusual fashion as well, with the riders parading over the Passage du Gois, which disappears under the high tide. When underway, the riders initially follow the coast, where the wind could have an impact, before heading inland to Les Herbiers and the finish on the Mont des Alouettes, where classics powerhouses such as Tom Boonen and Thor Hushovd will be pitted against puncheurs like Philippe Gilbert.

Fun Fact
Launched in 1982 in Les Herbiers, the Chrono des Espoirs, named Chrono des Herbiers since 1988, became the Chrono des Nations in 2006 to replace the defunct Grand Prix des Nations, which was abandoned in 2004. The event, now the world’s leading time trial event, will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2011.

What's the point, only one man can win here, and you know who he is

Can we have a bet on how many Euskaltel riders will fall in the neutralised Passage du Gois? |

You can't compare the odds here to your "local betting shop" |

I'm using an Excel sheet where you can type in the percentage of chance that you think the rider has of winning. A formula then makes a calculation which is the odds. I might alter it a little from time to time, but that's generally how it works. |

I'll predict a win from Gilbert, with Cunego in 2nd, then he thinks he's going to be ready for a top-10, and fails in the third week. |

Looking forward to tomorrow's stage. Should be a interesting finale. Hushovd should be a good man for tomorrow, maybe Marcato? |

this would be like the royal wedding bets. stupid and unexpected.
i'll put 1 PCM$ that Thor will use his mighty hammer to smash his rivals and claim the stage win |

Gilbert vs. Hushovd on this one, i can't see who else. But still a though one. Maybe EBH, Boonen or Sammy will get in the mix.

Interesting first stage this.
I have created a team for tomorrow on one of the managersites. Due to money issue I obviously can't get everyone I want.
I have these riders:
Philippe Gilbert
Mark Cavendish
Thor Hushovd
Edvald Boasson Hagen
Geraint Thomas
Danilo Hondo
Julian Dean
Francisco Ventoso
Borut Bozic
Is that a decent team or am I missing someone obvious? Rojas Gil is almost as expensive as Hushovd and Gilbert...

My bet is on Thor Hushovd, he always finds he's top form for the tour.
