I made a new "editor".
You can use it to extract the DB into excel.
This is a very basic tool but it should be faster than the full editor.
You can select which tables to open in excel because it can take quite some time to import bigger tables into an excel sheet.
Also you can select which tables you want to export back to the database.
I only tested it with Excel 2010. It should work with Excel 2007 for sure and maybe even with Excel 2003. It does not work with earlier versions due to missing XML functionality.
Version 5 allows to open additional tables at any time once you extracted the database.

I get a "Path not found" error in Excel 2007.
Debugging highlights a "ChDir strPath" in modCDB. |

Did you extract all three files from the RAR into the same folder? |

Still the problem. Exactly the one CT described above.
All 3 files are in the same folder. |

What does happen after you clicked the button and selected the cdb?
Do you see a window like the one on the attached picture?
If yes, is there a folder called Data which contains another folder with the xml files?
BTW: I uploaded another version, please try that if you can answer both questions with yes.

No, it immediately says path not found and then the window with the debugging and help buttons.
Clicking on debugging will open some files with the "ChDir strPath" being marked yellow. |

No, you don't have to:
1. Select the DB
2.a Select all tables you want to open (use CTRL to select multiple tables)
2.b Select no tables and click Cancel instead. This will open all tables.
3. Select the sheet of the table you want to edit
But I will add another button to select a table without extracting again in version 5. |

There are 4 buttons in the excel file.
None of them is labeled "read .cdb file".
First button "Extract CDB":
You have to select a database file or a save, then wait until the tables have been extracted.
(Now you have to select the tables, see next button. Or you click on CANCEL to open all)
Second button "Open table"
You have to select the table(s) you want to open, then wait until the selected tables have been imported into excel.
Third button "Build CDB"
Does the opposite as the first button
Fourth button "Clear all"
Never click this button unless you know what you are doing. You have been warned.
So what exactly is your question?
Also I am really wondering why you would want to use this tool as it is the "worst" editor for people without a clue. Excel is excellent for mass changes but it has none of the good features of the Fast Editor or my editor.

Just a quick question? Is there any way to make this editor work with Open Office? Because although I activate Macros, nothing happens when I click the Extract CDB button.

I don't have OO but I was told that it works well. Maybe download the latest version of OO if you don't have it already.
BTW: Did you extract all the files into a folder? |

I will try it with the newest version. Yes, all three files are in one folder. I guess I don't need to put the savegame I want to edit in any specific place?

No, you don't have to move the save game.
