The team busses have arrived in Germany, all set for the penultimate ProTour stage race of the season - and theres a bit of everything here, so plenty of opportunities for teams to outscore their rivals. Some flat stages, a couple of hilly stages, a mountain stage with the monster of the Rettenbachferner, a time trial, and a team time trial!

Last year's winner Thomas Dekker returns, and a good result here should remove any doubt over Philips' continued ProTour statuts. Plenty of other top riders involved in that particular battle though: Popovych, Pozzovivvo, and Karpets most notably. Efimkin leads Starbucks, while if you are involving Cafe de Colombia in the battle, they have Gomez Marchante.
Also key is the battle for 2nd place. Rogers may or may not struggle for La Gazzetta, and if he doesnt, then we wont be able to rule out Zabriskie either. But Festina have one of the overperformers of the season in Carlos Castano, Vesuvio have Maillot Jaune wearer Rigoberto Uran, and Pearl Adidas call on home favourite, and 2008 winner, Markus Fothen.
Throw Pluchkin, Nibali, Sella, Caruso, Menchov and Pedraza into the mix aswell, and we have quite a contest - plus theres also Auber's Sinkewitz - looking to use home advantage to forge ahead on the hilly stages. The likes of Boasson Hagen are also here for that.
Sprint wise, Roelandts could be key for Carmeuse in the relegation battle. Vanderbiest, Van Stayen, and Lo Cicero are likely to be 3 of the other key players. And then time trials. Aswell as the GC guys, we have a number of top Germans here - Lang, Fiedler, Kittel, Barth, Schadlich etc - who will be a force in both the TTT and ITT. TTT wise, bookies make Festina the early favourites there - but plenty of others will no doubt be in the mix.
Whatever happens, we should have a greater idea at how the various positional battles will play out in the next 9 days of racing.

I'm here for the sprints and nothing else. Hopefully the Sieberg-Van Stayen duo will bring me a stage win.

My team is build to win the TTT. If they don't I don't think I will have any shot at a top 10 GC here...

should be a great race. I remember considering the crash happy finale in deciding not to send Phinney here. Hopefully Zabriskie stays upright and with the help of a good ttt can crack the top 10

uh, so close. I think it would have been better if Sieberg and Van Stayen would have tried to work together rather than sprinting each for himself.
I have a pretty weak team for the TTT so starting last in the next stage won't make much of difference. My best chance to maintain in the PT top 10 is still a stage win from Van Stayen.

My team will be trying to limit losses here. With only a mountain stage Pozzovivo won't be causing much trouble in the GC, especially in a race with almost 100km in TTs. Also he seems to have a negligent behaviour in hilly stages, so he may already be out of the race by the Rettenbachferner.
I hope I'm wrong though

I'm starting very early so a top 3 in the TTT should be my goal I guess... I really hoped to take a win there though, as it would benefit Castaño a lot in the hills.

Bah that wasn't exactly satisfying, but we kinda knew it would happen when we started that early. I can accept losing to B&O but I think my team is significantly stronger than both Vesuvio and Sony here...

81 (German), 81, 78, 77 (German), 76. You?
Ive always been quietly confident of a strong TTT result here, was very glad they delivered - cant even be dissapointed to lose to B&O either with that sort of margin

78 (German), 77 (German), 77, 76, 76, 76, 75, 74, 73... So a very strong overall team. No weak links... I would've expected my 73-74 riders to take back time on the likes of Gastauer and Faiers who both finished in your first group.

So if we look solely at our 2 teams, I have the best 2 time trialists in Kittel and Uran, and Ford is probably the 3rd best aswell - not always the case, but the Aussie does have 2 ProTour TT wins to his name. The likes of Faiers and Gastauer barely take turns at all anyway, 1-2 seconds max.
Your consistency makes you less likely to do notably bad - and the game did make you favourite afterall, but good form days for my top guys can give me the edge

True... But like I said I thought the consistency would have made the impact. I will need to train my 77 TTers to 79 to next season then :-)

I'm really surprised with a top10 in the TTT. Still be holding my breath for the next couple of stages.
