The build up to the Tour de France begins here with a Dauphine Libere featuring the mighty Alpe d'Huez, and with double defending champion, John Gadret, teamless - who is going to step up to the plate here?

Not since Dekker's win in 2007 has a Frenchman failed to win this race but looking at the potential challengers, that streak is unlikely to continue. Possible threats here are: Ricco, Gomez Marchante, Popovych, Nibali, Pozzovivvo, Contador, Plaza, Arroyo, Sella, TDF Champ Fothen making his season debut, Pedraza, Henao Montoya, Karpets, Intxausti and Spilak.
Wow, thats a strong field!

Nice. This should be interesting. I think hoping for a top10 might be a legitimate aspiration so, Go Pozzovivo!

Wow, that's going to be tough for Lövkvist.
Moving on... |

Hoping the mountains make a bigger impact than the TT. The might mean that Ricco attacks to make up some time.

good 2nd from Kovalev. Apart from the tt i'll hope Ivars does decently overall, but that 2nd place is more than i really expected from the race.

Hoho, nice start by Lang. Pedraza lost a couple of seconds but that was expected. Will be an interesting race.

Awesome job by Ford to win the TT, inevitable he would lose the lead, but the fact that he actually had it is great

It only seem to be working in this game though, otherwise I would be out getting lottery tickets.

Just a quick one I am back.
Will aim at getting two stages out there tomorrow.
Incidentely, the Dauphine is not the parcours from this year but the 2009 edition. It is Mont Ventoux on stage 5, the one of Izourd into Briancon for Stage 6 and three non Alpe D'Huez climbs on stage 7. So no Alpe D'Heuz!

Too bad Plaza didn't take the stage win there, but at least he spent one day in the yellow jersey.

Let's hope Ricco does something on the Mt Ventoux.

Looking forward for that Ventoux stage. It could kill some people quite literally with:
Ricco - 80
Marchante - 81
Popovych - 81
Nibali - 81
Pozzovivo - 81
Contador - 83
Plaza - 79
Fothen - 82
Sella - 83
Henao Montoya - 82
Karpets - 80
Intxausti - 82
Spilak - 81
Don't know exactly if those are correct, but if we count out Cunego and Valverde aren't we looking at the best of the best here? It's a sickening good pack!
