Tour de Beauce Discussion

Small field here in Canada, so excellent opportunity for those who are here

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/beauce.png

No post-Vuelta break for Santander, they head the field here - and with work to do for promotion, they sure need to do well. JJ Cobo didnt ride the Vuelta, but did show well in California, but sprinter Guerao was a double stage winner in Spain. IKEA are here, Swede Gustav Larsson getting a rare opportunity to come out of Taaramae and Alarcon's shadow to lead - while fellow Swede Kessiakoff will look to improve his dissapointing season to date for Telenor.

Kessiakoff taking some very useful bonus seconds there.

If the mountain stage doesn't decide the winner, it's either Larsson taking time in TT or Cobo taking time on 1 of the 3 hilly stages.

Hope either Raisin or Rast does well.

Kessiakoff stage win, Te Brake 3rd, Kessiakoff leading GC! This is a day of celebration!

arthon
Can't wait to get to the last four stages.

I'll take a couple good sprints in this race. Good job from Dominique and Mike.

I'd like to see a top 10 from Raisin, but I think that is all I can hope for.

Kessiakoff holding on Grin Though I'm afraid of what Cobo might do on the last stages... 1st, 5th and 6th Grin + 2 more in top 20 Grin

Telenor probably wishing that this tour ended right now, cannot see them holding onto 1st, 5th and 6th if their riders ride defensively like that again.

Short uphill finish on stage six may just favour a Tre Valli Varasine style sprint - I am sure Heine hopes so!

This race though is a really important one for Santander and Mercedes - with possible Ikea and Petronas 'out of contacts' they have chances of promotion. Santander's Cobo looks good for netting a high GC/Points position - but Mercedes really need Stetina to move up.

Yeah, lets stop the race now!

The way it looks now, there is a chance that 9th would still get promoted.

Yes it does look like picking the promotion goal may be just as equivalent at picking a top 10 goal.

As I understand it in general the top 4 promote automatically and the bottom 4 of the Protour relegate. Then things come under that 'grey area' of SN's discression.

It could be that the promotion quota increases to six teams with Auber and La Gazzetta possibly not continuing next year despite not being in a relegation position due to conflict or non activity reasons. Though I am not sure as to whether it will be increased promotion or decreased relegation. Another possibility is that an existing player from the CTour actually controls La Gazzetta and/or Auber instead of them being disbanded. This happened with Lafarge last year.

It was last year I think with the team who finished 7th (Starbucks) last year promoted... interestingly Ikea, Wiggle, Petronas, Mercedes and Santander filled out the top 12 behind them!

With Ikea, Petronas and 100% Me also probably not taking promotion due to non activity and conflict this may increase that dotted line for promotion further. Also lets not forget that is only 19 teams in the protour in the first place, though I think in this case that will certainly be decreased relegation (3 teams) as opposed to increased promotion!

With Wiggle, Pendletons and UBS in the driving seat for three of the promotion spots, assuming there is five promotion spots available it does open up the possibilty of two from any of these teams promoting, in my opinion...

Bacardi
Mercedes
Sport Lisboa
Bimbo Nut
Pokerstars
Santander
Red Bull
Milka
Tinkoff
Lego
Cillit Bang
Vespa
Pirelli
Quiksilver

Leading a race hurts more than it being lost already after the first stage... I'm scared everytime I check pcmdaily and just waiting for Kessiakoff to fall

Heine: Cannot see Kessiekoff finishing lower than 2nd nowSmile

Meanwhile looks like a close battle for the youth jersey.

Deadpool
7th is fine, nice attacking by the squad there on the final stage.

Smowz
Nice little race this one - Telenor and Santander duke it out for GC. Turns out it was a good race rof both squads really. Ikea and Highroad featured well too, though maybe not as well as Ikea are used too!

Bit of a nothing race for Intesa, El Al and Mercedes the latter really need someone like Pozzato to pull something special off soon.

Cheerfully adds Telenor to the possibles to promote Smile
