ToC is the only American race left in the Pro Tour calendar for 2011 and this year it clashes with the Giro. David Zabriskie won the previous 2 editions of the race and no one really sees a reason why he wouldn't get his third win in a row here.
His main rival for the Californian crown this year seems to be his team - mate the U.S. national champion, Taylor Phinney. But if the 2 will manage to work together instead of fighting with each other they could bring Wikipedia a spectacular result. Talking about Wikipedia, this seems to be the most important race for them, bring all their stars here, including Burghardt, Van Garderen and Farrar.
The main rival for the Wikipedia riders is, at least on paper, the French champion, Jerome Coppel, who looks able to keep it up with them in the TTs as well as in the hilly stages. Jack Wolfskin also brought here 2 strong riders, Plaza and Cornu, but they are aiming for a top 5 rather than the victory.
There are several other riders worth mentioned for a top 10 here, for their time - trial skills or for their climbing skills. Edvald Boasson Hagen seems to be the strongest puncheur riding here, competing with Van Garderen, the 2 Sanchez and J.J. Cobo.
Amador, Kashechkin and Abal could secure a top spot in the final outcome of the general classification if they manage to ride a very well time - trial and to hang on in the hilly stages. Nespresso brought Jacob Fiedler here to lead the team, but it's rather questionable if the German will be able to follow the best riders in the hardest stages of the race.
With quite a lot of stages suited for the sprinters we should see some exciting finishes. On paper, Bewley seems to be the strongest Roelandts, Avelino, Vanderbiest, Vanoverschelde, Granjel Cabrera or Wikipedia's Tyler Farrar shouldn't be underestimated.
Riders to follow:
| ***** | David Zabriskie | | **** | Taylor Phinney, Jerome Coppel, Ruben Plaza | | *** | Andrei Amador, Dominique Cornu, Evald Boasson Hagen, Luis Leon Sanchez, Tejay Van Garderen | | ** | Andrei Kaschechkin, Sam Bewley, Jurgen Roelandts, Roman Vanderbiest, Tyler Farrar | | * | Juanjo Cobo, Samuel Sanchez, Jacob Fiedler, David Abal, Oscar Avelino |

I believe I could do rather well here. Hagen for Top 5 a podium should even be possible if he has a couple of good days in the hills. Also I have a nice train for Vanoverschelde here for additional stage wins.
Really looking forward to following this race.

*wonders why Wikipedia brought both Zabriskie and Phinney*
*looks at Vesuvio lineup*
*leaves thread*
This race isnt going to be of much interest to me!

After Summerhill's showing at Romandie I hope he can pull something out here at his home race.
Castaneda too will hopefully be there for the sprints on some of those stages. |

Yay, wildcard. Cobo and Abal should do decently here, hopefully Ventoso will find form as well

Every race in which I have high hopes dissapoints me, so I have no expectations here what so ever.

Finally a nice lead-out. But I rather see Bazajev leading out Granjel Cabrera instead of Reihs. Then the victory would be in the bag.

Seems my sprinters are doing better when I don't have a leadout train...

Don't have high hopes for this race, but Löfkvist may be able to do something.
... and Pedersen, apparently. |

Alright, Lövkvist hangs on, but obviously with no chance of winning due to the other strong TTers. |

Wow I thought Hagen was never gonna reach the front. Good to see him grab boni seconds but I wish he wouldn't have left it so late.

Damnit... Sammy should've had those 30 odd seconds to get a good overall result. This won't be enough. Tim Dees has done very well though, also Sam Bewley who can perhaps sprint his way into top 10...
Will be interesting to see if Sam is strong enough.

so far so good with my overloaded squad. Figured as I added americans this off-season may as well make it my strongest race.

Yeh, its working out very well for you. I thought the AI would mess you up and ignore 1 of Phinney and Zabriskie, evidently not so far.

Good sprinting by Bewley. Hopefully he can win they next 2 stages. I would be very pleased to see him climb well into the top 10 before the final "hilly stage"...
