The Continental Tour kicks back off in April with the Worlds View Challenge. A Hors Category stage race, it promises to bring some spark back into the racing, with some big names and big teams attending. Defending champion Dan Martin is back with 100% ME and promises to try and double up.
Challenging him at the Challenge are the following teams (startlist will be put up later): Pendletons, YouTube Twitter, Bimbo, Cillit Bang, El Al, Ikea - Bianchi, Mercedes, Petronas, Pokerstars.com, Red Bull, Santander, Telenor, Tinkoff, UBS, Unicredit, Vespa, Wiggle, and Yamaha.

A little surprised to see some of the best hilly men giving this one a miss.
Schumacher and Ginanni are the obvious stand outs when it comes to hilly strength, but I guess it is going to depend on when and where the decisive moment will come. Any number of decent hills men like Flugal, Calzati, Carrara, Ben Nasser or Carrara for example could make the grade.
Someone like Ventuso or Gasparotto who could win any of the stages in a sprint (well dare I say it Arashiro probably comes under this category too) and may just be a candidate also because the last two stages don't end on a hill, though stage four doesn't seem to give much of a chance to recover.
Great to see this resume, look forward to your stage reports feel free to take pops at some of the weak ass teams here rjc!!! [Looks at Yamaha and wonders where they are hiding their South African hilly sprint man ] |

Some of the best hilly guys are (luckily?) tied up with Riojas I think.
I will ensure that insults are added when, and as, they are needed. Normally targetting Cillit Bang. Especially as I was never going to do any more races ever again

Stages 4 and 5 in all likelihood will be pretty tame. I'm expecting another non-event for Vespa. |

Anyone know a good sauce to go with eating ones words!
Then again none of the top three are probably going to be good enough to survive the split that will likely happen on stage 4 - so not hugely decisive. With Yamaha having a fairly ordinary squad, it may be fruitful to get in a break here. We saw a break win at the Cape Argus thingee as well.
Bittersweet for our team, Beppu producing a fine lead out for Arashiro to lead home the realistic contenders. With our co-leader Augustyn now out of any sort of GC hope by being tailled off presumably because of the wind and losing 4 + minutes!

One day you'll wake up with a gaping hole where your kidney used to be. That's not a threat. That's a promise.

Nah, Augustyn crashed. Twice. Apologies for not mentioning that... I forgot to add it into my notepad file.

Ziegler is my hero!!!!!!!!!!!
Sending an average team of attacking riders might pay off!!!!
(and as for Impey not being here, i think he has a long break atm, i saved his other race days for some similar races later on. Or maybe there is a race clash and he couldn't come here. I will have to check)

Hopeing for some good results from Vaitkus on the flatter stages, and that Florencio/Kessiakoff can do something aswell

Ventoso's lack of a sprint this whole season is getting frustrating, that said. Yellow and a win is not bad by Galdos.

Its worth remembering in future seasons that even if there are similar races elsewhere in the season, the fact that this is in South Africa would have made Impey go better.

I'm hoping Manuel Quinziato punctured or fell off and is not in fact on strike. |

The guys at 6'14 crashed once. Quinziato twice, and Grippo had a puncture from miiiiiles out.

Well I cannot fault my teams effort, not quite got a sprinter with enough kick to finish off the leadouts.
The next couple of stages should see a shake up, a number of riders who have gained bonifications may well drop back, though Richeze and Viatkus are certainly dangerous...
Cannot believe though it will not come down to a select group of punchaers on stage 4 and last year the last stage was also reasonably decisive. |
