Hey,
I have a little question for you.
I got an assigment for biology conserning monogenetica. The thing i and my friend have chosen is the V-sign that Spock makes (see photo).
Bassicly, this is something you can do or can't. You can't learn it. If you can do this without thinking and without any problems, than vote yes. if you can't do this or have to try very hard, than just vote no. Please be honest.
Thanks!

I'm Jewish, so of course I can.
And no, that is not a joke. The sign comes from Judaism, or more specifically, the Priestly Blessing, as the Rabbi makes that design with both his hands and then connects them to form a triangle in the middle, while he is blessing the congregation. Leonard Nimoy is an Orthodox Jew, and he says that he knew the symbol from looking out from underneath his fathers tallit (you are supposed to cover your eyes during the blessing, and kids normally duck underneath their father's tallit (prayer shawl)) during the blessing. When they wanted to figure out a good hand symbol for "May you live long and prosper," Nimoy recommended it because he thought it looked alien enough, Roddenberry agreed, and so they used it.
So basically, if you are Jewish (especially an Ashkenazi jew), you can do it. |

I never knew that was something some people couldn't do.
I can only imagine the horror and tears of nerdy Trek fans who want to be spock but can't do that.
Guess it's like the "folding the sides of your tongue" thing. I can't do it. I can do this hand thing, though.

Yeah, I can do it.
Easy on the left hand, but significantly harder on the right. Might be because the former is my guitar hand (also it's the one that types the most). |

I used to not be able to do this but after putting a table glass in between the fingers I slowly learned it. So it is actually possible to learn it. |
