We've seen a lot of complaining about the route at least the last two years, although it was better this year than last.
I would like to see a mountain ITT, like the Chamrousse stage that is rumoured. And also stop with having major climbs in the start of the stages, and then 60 kms of flat afterwards.
What's your suggestions? |

3 words, Puy de Dome.
Also, add in the Koppenberg from the Ronde.
and it wouldn't kill to bring back the Combination jersey. |

Puy de Dome would be great, but is there enough space there to host the Tour? |

Im fairly sure Prudhomme has said that Puy de Dome is unusable in the Tour de France - I forget whether its due to space or road quality

Forget the Puy de Dôme. It won't be at the Tour anytime soon.
My suggestion? Bring back the first long ITT they 'forgot' in the last years. |

From what I remember, they're building a railway up it, and making the road narrower.
A visit to Corsica would also be nice, a bit of a change.
EDIT: Would anyone have any objection to me opening a thread about what you would do if you were in charge of the UCI?

Ain't rly a fan for it. If there would be one, it would become even more boring with Contador.

Really? Menchov disagrees... |

If there only were one ITT, I think it would be better if it was before the mountains, instead of after. It would force the bad TTers the gain time in the mountains. |

You had a 50+ km TT this year, where he made up about 1'30" in a Contador who wasn't rly top shape. Even if you have a longer one, don't think it would make a difference. It would however eliminate other contedor's chances for the win.

Contador lost 1'52'' with Menchov, and he had 2'01'' at the end. With another ITT with ~50 km, the outcome could have been very close.

To elaborate on the Puy de Dôme:
They now have the technology to have finishes on tiny spaces. The previously unthinkable Tourmalet was the first test. Next year, a hill in the Vendée region will be the second test.
Preudhomme, who said all this, finished by saying "If it goes well, we can start thinking of stage finishes on the Puy de Dôme or Port de Balès"
(EDIT: Sorry, I don't know why I wrote Port de Balès. He said Port de Pailhéres)
As for a Tour route, I had a discussion with a few people a few months ago where we kinda made our own idea of a Tour route.
I have mine on a text document somewhere.

These stages are specially designed for french baroudeurs (Chavanel, Voeckler and so on), it allowed them to take time in the start of the stage and prevent them from the leaders battles as the last kms are all flat. You cant and you wont see that kind of stages out of le Tour as this is our only chance for us, french people, to see a french rider win.
Its the same for the Vuelta and Giro, some stages are designed according to the the qualities of their best riders in the country. Concerning le Tour de France outside the french territory i think its a good idea because the Tour de France has become one of the biggest international competition in sports and ive personally enjoyed the starts from London or Rotterdam this year, but i guess a lot of french people will disagree with me
Anyway the majority of Tour de France takes place in France so it isnt really a problem. I heard that the start of the Tour de France 2012 will take place in Corsica by the way!

That's what he said about the stage to Gourette (Col d'Aubisque) that Rasmussen won in 2007. If that went well (which i assume it did), they would start thinking about Puy de Dome |

The problem with the Put de Dôme goes beyond the space, though. With the train they're building, the road will be extremely narrow, and there's also the fact that it's a private zone.
I don't think we'll see the Puy de Dôme again in the Tour. I hope to be wrong. |

I think we need more small climbs in the first two week. There should be some mountaintop finishes but not 15km climbs. I think 2-3 km is enough and don't create huge distances. |
