Leadout men and methods
Waghlon
Hey, ive tried some careers with Barloworld and Lampre, but im still having trouble setting myself up for the sprints. So far the only one ive tried properly is putting a rider (Guidi for Barloworld and Baldato for Lampre) on the dot with 99 effort, and then following him with the sprinter, and this works to an extent (in one race in Malaysia, i pulled away from the pack and finished 31 seconds ahead of the pack with Napolitano), but most of the times i simply cant keep with the likes of Ljungquist from CSC (in the spring, i usually see him enter the last kilometer as the first rider). So im asking, are there a more effective way of leading my sprinter into second position when the pack hit the last kilometer? And who would you recommend as a leadout man?

Also; since im still stuck on normal, how much harder is the other levels?

Use a team like Milram if you want to practice lead outs. You could also just try to follow one of the other sprinters.

Napolitano leading out Bennati would be good, i've never tried it but it sounds good

you could have Ballan as the 1st guy, to get them up there.
then Napolitano take over and start the sprinting, then Bennati fly past himB)B)

that sounds like it could workWink

I often try to follow the best sprinter in the pack and sprint past him with 1km to go

that generally only works if you have a slightly better sprinter/sprinter in good form and they need good acceleration as well

So true. I found this out with a lot of frustrating sprints with Boonen against McEwan: he just doesn't have the acceleration to go past the Aussie. With a train though, I win probably 9/10 with Boonen, although I usually use a decoy.

All I do is get a high flat stat rider to go 99% (e.g De Jongh), followed by Steegmans, then Boonen. Then I have a decoy rider from my team follw Boonen, this has to be a sprinter so he can keep up with Boonens wheel initially (I use Vigano). Most of the big names try and grab boonens wheel but end up settling for Vigano's. Thats when I set Vigano at say 20% and all the big sprinters just stay behind him while my train contests the sprint pretty much unchallenged! OK, so it could be slightly cheating, but I like the taste of victory! Grin

it's like real life, sprinters like Boonen need their own train to have a chance of winning, riders like McEwen can just sit at the back of the train and have a chance of winning

I always use a leadout method but if it doesnt work i end up switching to a better sprinter not in my team

i only ever use someone else's train if i don't have a good flat guy on my team

Millar is an ok sprinter just no-one actually realises

he won a sprint from Lloyd to win the British RR (Lloyd is a fairly good sprinterWink)
and 8th and the Champs this year

Yup he was 8th on the Champs Elysses, and not at his best. He has had a couple of other high results in other stages too - when he decides to sprint for it. A stage in the Tour de Georgia this year is an example I can think of.

I think you can compare him to cancellara, not a true sprinter but just a high top speed Wink

I remeber Millar getting a 4th in the Tour of Georgia and last year in the tour of spain tried to blast of the front of the bunch but got caught by team mate ventoso i think it was

So a good flat rider on the dot is pretty much the favored method?

a good flat rider is a mustWink
then it would be good to follow him with a 75SP guy and then your main sprinter, but it obviously depends on what you have in your team
