Garmin season 2010
harry
Hi All,

I have the annoying habit to stop my carreer in PCM with every little dissappointment, resulting in that I'm playing the first races over and over and over. So I thought, let's make a thread, perhaps in that case I will manage to stick a little longer to the game. The team will be Garmin. I think it is a nice mix of sprinters, riders for classics and the big tours. The difficulty level will be hard (first career on hard with me, so don't expect me to smash the competition) and the financial difficulty will be normal.

The Australian ITT Championship went pretty well. Rogers set the winning time very early in the race. Cameron Meyer was an outsider for winning the ITT, especially since Cadel Evans was absent. He started carefully and was + 16" behind after 15 kms, but managed to catch up a little time and finished 2nd at only +8".

1. Michael Rogers - Team HTC Columbia - 56'05
2. Cameron Meyer - Garmin Transitions - + 8"
3. Adam Hansen - Team HTC Columbia - + 43"
4. Zakkari Dempster - Rapha Condor Sharp - + 53"
5. Rory Sutherland - UnitedHealthcare presented by Maxxis - + 59"
6. Matthew Goss - Team HTC Columbia - + 1'10"
7. Baden Cooke - Team Saxo Bank - + 1'12"
8. David Kemp - Fly V Australia - + 1'16"
9. Ben Day - Fly V Australia - + 1'16"
10. Brett Lancaster - Cervelo Test Team - + 1'16"

The road race became a big soft. Lowe and Bobridge tried to get into breakaways but did not get away. Eventually, Matthew Wilson got into the breakaway, together with amongst others Sutherland and Menzies, but only got a maximum lead of 1'40". Trent Lowe fell in the downhill and had to do a lot of effort to get back with the pack right on time to join in with a counterattack with O'Grady, Rogers, Davis and Gerrans. He managed to get 8th position which is probably the best he could do.

1. Stuart O'Grady - Team Saxo Bank - 4h36'06
2. Rory Sutherland - UnitedHealthcare presented by Maxxis - + 0"
3. Michael Rogers - Team HTC - Columbia - + 0"
4. Karl Menzies - UnitedHealthcare presented by Maxxis + 0"

6. Matthew Lloyd - Omega Pharma Lotto - + 56"
7. Simon Gerrans - Sky - + 56"
8. Trent Lowe - Garmin Transitions - + 1'58"
9. Matthew Wilson - Garmin Transitions - + 2'40"

10. Baden Cooke - Team Saxo Bank - + 3'25"

TOUR DOWN UNDER RESULTS

FARRAR - ZABRISKIE - LOWE - BOBRIDGE - DEAN - WILSON - C. MEYER

Stage 1: As predicted the firs stage ended up in a mass sprint. Zabriskie nicely delivered Tyler Farrar in the wheel of Pozatto setting him up for a great sprint. Unfortunately Pozatto and Cavendish were just a little faster. Dean went along in the major breakaway but fell back even before the first intermediate sprints. He and Bobridge lost time on the main pack.

1. Mark Cavendish - Team HTC Columbia - 3h12'20"
2. Filippo Pozzato - Team Katusha - + 0"
3. Tyler Farrar - Garmin Transitions - + 0"
4. Aitor Galdos - Euskatel Euskad - + 0"
5. Graeme Brown - Rabobank - + 0"
6. Stuart O'Grady - Team Saxo Bank - + 0"
7. Gerald Ciolek - Team Milram - + 0"
8. Fabio Sabatini - Liquigas Doimo - + 0"
9. Edvald Boasson Hagen - Sky - + 0"
10. Fabian Cancellara - Team Saxo Bank - + 0"

Stage 2: Also this stage became a mass sprint. But the pack was split in several groups with strong riders like Cooke, O'Grady, Heado (well done Team Saxo), Van Avermaet, Hondo and Chavanel losing valuable time. Also Meyer, Dean, Lowe and Wilson did not finish with the pack. Zabriskie and Bobridge pulled the sprint for Farrar, who had Pozzato and Cavendish in his wheel. Eventually, Pozzato managed to pass Farrar, who finish 2nd just before Cavendish.

1. Filippo Pozzato - Team Katusha - 3h09'12"
2. Tyler Farrar - Garmin Transitions - + 0"
3. Mark Cavendish - Team HTC Columbia - + 0"
4. Matthew Goss - Team HTC Columbia - + 0"
5. Aitor Galdos - Euskatel Euskadi - + 0"
6. Gerald Ciolek - Team Milram - + 0"
7. Fabio Sabatini - Liquigas Doimo - + 0"
8. Andre Greipel - Team HTC Columbia - + 0"
9. Pablo Urtasun - Euskatel Euskadi - + 0"
10. Francesco Chicchi - Liquigas Doimo - + 0"

Stage 3: With a difficult finish Farrar did not have any change for winning this stage. But by good work of Lowe and Meyer he managed to stay with the pack and did not loose time. Lowe, Dean, Wilson and Bobridge again lost some time, similarly to Greipel, Bos and Brown. Pozzato scored another victory. It will be extremely difficult to beat him now.

1. Filippo Pozzato - Team Katusha - 3h22'02"
2. Yury Trofimov - Bbox Bouygues Telecom - + 0"
3. Rigoberto Uran - Caisse d'Epargne - + 0"
4. Juan Jose Cobo - Caisse d'Epargne - + 0"
5. Edvald Boasson Hagen - Sky - + 0"
6. Dimitry Muravyev - Team Radioshack - + 0"
7. Lars Boom - Rabobank - + 0"
8. Fabian Cancellara - + 0"
9. Carlos Barredo - Quick-Step - + 0"
10. Gerald Ciolek - Team Milram - + 0"
83. Tyler Farrar - Garmin Transitions - + 0"

Stage 4: No suprisingly again a mass sprint. Farrar was nicely delivered to the front by Zabriskie, but he chose the wrong wheel. He managed to pass a couple of sprinters but could not get futher up then 5th place.

1. Stuart O'Grady - Team Saxo Bank - 3h26'47"
2. Mark Cavendish - Team HTC Columbia - + 0"
3. Edvald Boasson Hagen - Sky - + 0"
4. Filippo Pozzato - Team Katusha - + 0"
5. Tyler Farrar - Garmin Transition - + 0"
6. Lloyd Mondory - AG2R La Mondiale - + 0"

8. Gerald Ciolek - Team Milram - + 0"
9. Graeme Brown - Rabobank - + 0"
10. Gregory Rast - Team Radioshack - + 0"

Stage 5: Another mass sprint another P2. But it was a very difficult one. On the last hil 25 km the peleton broke in two with Farrar being in the second part. With a huge effort he managed to get back in the front when both group recombined and was perfectly launched by Zabriskie. O'Grady was just in a slightly better position and took victory just before Farrar.

1. Stuart O'Grady - Team Saxo Bank - 3h33'51"
2. Tyler Farrar - Garmin Transitions - + 0"
3. Mark Cavendish - Team HTC Columbia - + 0"
4. Tomas Vaitkus - Team Radioshack - + 0"
5. Lieuwe Westra - Vacansoleil - + 0"
6. Anthony Geslin - Francaise des Jeux - + 0"

8. Gregory Rast - Team Radioshack - + 0"
9. Filippo Pozzato - Team Katusha - + 0"
10. Aitor Galdos - Euskatel Euskadi - + 0"

Stage 6: No suprise. A mass sprint. In all the fuss of the last few kilometres Farrar lost his good position for the sprint when he lost the wheel of Pozzato and finished only at 8th place. This resulted in a solid 3rd place in the overal standings. Good superprestige and Protour points, but no stage win. Cavendish secured the win of the Tour Down Under by taking the victory in the last stage.

Really nice to read, but try to spice up your text with some pictures. Look at the other stories for ideas. In case you don`t know you take a picture pressing ctrl and t at the same time Smile

harry
How can you upload pictures?
Edited by harry on 14-03-2010 11:06

olabj
Use photobucket.com or something like that

harry
So I figured out how one can add pictures, thus I will add a couple in the future. The Qatar TTT is coming up, which I always loose horribly. Even with the best TT specialists in my teams. At longer TTTs I usually do OK. Does anybody have a suggestion? Otherwise I just go for stage wins and bring my TT specialists to Tour de Mediterraneen.

olabj
Just go at 99% with everyone, it usually works on that short TT

valverde321
and for long ttts just put the secinds really high for good tt riders. I usually do fine.

Stage 1: With sprinters like McEwen, Napolitano and Bennati in the pack it was bound to become a mass sprint. Kessiakoff jumped along in a breakaway but had a total off day and was back in the peleton quickly. The others were caught a little later. On the last hill before the finish, only Russ, Noe and Kessiakoff remained, when they were caught up by Arrieta, Fedrigo and Rodriguez. After several attempts to break away, Rodriguez, Arrieta, Fedrigo and Kessiakoff sprinted for the victory, which was claimed by Fedrigo. The peleton finished at 1'04" including Van Summeren, Martin, Maaskant, Fischer, Hesjedal and Kreder.

Rodrigues was to first one to break away on the last slope. Nobody was able to follow him. After Rodriguez a group with Failli, Fedrigo, Arrieta and Duran followed. RESULTS TOUR OF QATAR

HUNTER - MILLAR - C. MEYER - T. MEYER - BOBRIDGE - TUFT - COZZA - STETINA

Stage 1: The TTT was a small disaster. Garmin was the favourite for the race but finished 3 seconds behind Katusha and our primary sprinter Hunter was not able to stay with the rest of the team and lost valuable seconds (+ 16), just like Travis Meyer (+ 15) and Stetina (+ 20).

1. Mauro Finetto - Liquigas Doimo - 2h52'52"
2. Ben Swift - Sky - + 0"
3. Robert Forster - Team Milram - + 0"

8. Matthew Hayman - Sky - + 0"
9. Kim Nielsen - Team Designa Kokken - + 0"
10. Geraint Thomas - Sky - + 0"

Stage 3: Millar nicely brought Hunter to the front of the pack right in the wheel of Bole who was in a perfect position to start the sprint right when he lost a lot of speed. Result: again no top 10 finish and after Cameron Meyer also Millar lost time. I guess it is just too hot...

1. Peter Wrolich - Team Milram - 2h58'22"
2. Wim Stroetinga - Team Milram - + 0"

i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae120/harry1978/Q_stage5.jpg

Stage 6: The race was nicely controlled by the Meyer brothers after which Millar brought Hunter into the wheel of Finetto. Not the best wheel for the win, but definitively the save wheel for winning the Tour of Qatar, since Swift was far away. Hunter came close to winning the stage. Besides winning the overal standings Hunter also won most points for the sprinters cup.

1. Nicolas Sanderson - Amore & Vita Conrad - 2h39'47"
2. Robert Hunter - Garmin Transitions - + 0"

Nice story, looks like you catch up with mine soon. I'm too lazy lately, and also distracted by other games.

SKY did not bring any of their specialists, except for Cummings. I'm still happy with the results though, but I need to win a couple of sprints with Hunter to win the Tour of Qatar.

RESULTS TOUR MEDITERRANEEN

VANDER VELDE - ZABRISKIE - DANIELSON - DEAN - PATE - PETERSON - MEIER - CARLSEN

Stage 1: With many excellent sprinters in the field, it was no suprise that this resulted in a mass sprint. With Hunter in Qatar and Farrar resting, Dean was launched by Zabriskie for the sprint. 8th place was probably best he could do.

1. Thor Hushovd - Cervelo Test Team - 2h14'39"
2. Yauheni Hutarovich - Francaise des Jeux - + 0"
3. Oscar Freire - Rabobank - + 0"

8. Julian Dean - Garmin Transitions - + 0"
9. Raffaele Ferrara - CarmioOro NGC - + 0"
10. Jonathan Bellis - Team Saxo Bank - + 0"

Stage 2: Another TTT. With Vander Velde and Danielson not being in great shape Garmin started calmly passing through in the midfield halfway the race. Then Pate and Zabriskie set the pace during which time Garmin lost a couple of riders. With Vander Velde, Meier and Petersen barely hanging on, we claimed victory.

1. Garmin Transitions - 43'23"
2. Rabobank - + 11"
3. Cofidis, Le Credit en Ligne - + 17"
4. Caisse d'Epargne - + 43"

18. Astana - + 1'43"
19. Liquigas Doimo - + 5'48"
20. Saur Sojasun - + 7'06"

Stage 3: Strong winds dominated this mainly flat stage. In the last kilometres the pack broke in three parts. Meier, Peterson and Carlsen lost a couple of minutes just like Danielson who was fetching water for the boys. Nevertheless Dean, Vander Velde, Zabriskie and Pate were in the first group and saw a lot of competitors loose time. However it seems like Pate is going to loose the yellow yersey to Freire soon. He needs to gain only 2 more seconds in the sprints.

1. Thor Hushovd - Cervelo Test Team - 3h10'26"
2. Oscar Freire - Rabobank - + 0"
3. Lloyd Mondory - AG2R La Mondiale - + 0"

8. Chris Anker Sorensen - Team Saxo Bank - + 0"
9. Juan Jose Haedo - Team Saxo Bank - + 0"
10. David Zabriskie - Garmin Transitions - + 0"

Stage 4: With a small hill two kilometres before the finishe line this proved to be an interesting finish. Dessel was the first one to attack followed by Vinokoerov and Pate. The last two were caught by the pack, but Dessel kept his lead and won the stage in a solo finish.

1. Cyril Dessel - AG2R La Mondiale - 3h49'21"
2. Carlos Barredo - Quick Step - + 16"
3. Thor Hushovd - Cervelo Test Team - + 16"

9. Matti Breschel - Team Saxo Bank - + 16"
10. Lloyd Mondory - AG2R La Mondiale - + 16"

Stage 5: This stage was an exampt copy of the previous one with a small hill just before the finishe line. Siutsou, Zabriskie and Kern were the ones to get away. Zabriskie started the sprint from far and while Siutsou was caught back, Kern just passed Zabriskie on the finish line. Zabriskie gets a few seconds and is the new yersey holder.

1. Christophe Kern - Cofidis - 3h58'41"
2. David Zabriskie - Garmin Transitions - + 0"
3. Thor Hushovd - Cervelo Test Team - + 0"
4. Matti Breschel - Team Saxo Bank - + 0"

9. Kanstantsin Siutsou - Team HTC Columbia - + 0"
10. Mark Renshaw - Team HTC Columbia - + 0"

Stage 6: With a serious climb and the finish uphill, this stage was set to be the dealbreaker. Pate attempted to get in a breakaway but failed in doing so. The pack wouldn't let him go. Voeckler was the first one to go into persuit of the breakaway of Sprick, Florencio, Pietropolli, El Fares and Sella at the start of the last climb. Pate tried to follow but couldn't catch Voeckler and fell back. Barredo, Moncoutie, Kern and Zabriskie went on for a counter attack. Barredo managed to get to the leading group, but could n't counter Voeckler. Zabriskie finished 8th. Enough to keep the yellow yersey.

1. Thomas Voeckler - Bbox Bouygues Telecom - 3h59'44"
2. Mathieu Sprick - Bbox Bouygues Telecom - + 17"

Just go at 99% with everyone, it usually works on that short TT
and for long ttts just put the secinds really high for good tt riders. I usually do fine.

Thanks for the tips. As you can see above it paid out perfectly

Team stats?

Sorry for the late responds, but here are the team stats. Didn't know which ones you wanted to see, so you get a lot.
I'm playing the PCM Daily's DB2010 database by the way.
