When AON Global announced they were withdrawing their sponsorship it was a great British invention, recently revived, that saved the team - Pendleton's Twicer, the ice cream with a lolly each end. The new version of an old company, owned by Nestle, is using cycling as a way of advertising, a vehicle of brand awareness. It's aims are British and Continental. And it's aims are winning.
The team's jersey was designed by Will 007, the James Bond of graphic design. And without further ado here it is:

2011 Budget and Team Goals
It gives me great pleasure to announce the budget and team goals for Pendleton's Twicer for the 2011 season. € 3,788,000 will be pumped into the team, 1,788,000 coming from Pendleton's Twicer/Nestle and the remaining 2,000,000 from a private benefactor keen on investing in his childhood passion of cycling. As a result, these will be the team goals for 2011:
Top 10 Team Standings - Achieved
Win Tour of Pendle - Achieved
Top 5 GP of Wales
Top 10 Philadelphia International - Achieved
Top 5 Dutch Food Valley Classic - Failed
A Top 10 in the Team Standings is definitely a very achievable goal - we came a close 14th this year and with some squad strengthening for 2011 I feel we could go 4 places better at least. With our new British perspective, a Victory in the Tour of Pendle is important for the sponsors, especially as it is a northern goal. Hopefully the hilly parcours should suit us. A Top 10 in the Philadelphia International mirrors a result in 2010, as we won the race with Phillipe Gilbert. He is still with us for the 2011 season and hope he can do the same there. Another British goal and another hilly goal is a Top 5 in the GP of Wales. The hilly classic around Llangollen suits Phillipe well and I'm sure he can finish well in this race. Finally, a Top 5 in the Dutch Food Valley Classic is something we achieved with Juan Van Heerden in 2010 and hopefully it can be done again.
With this money and these goals we now can work out a definite strategy for the transfer season.

Contract Renewals
11 riders renewed their contracts with us for 2011, including last years team leader Juan Van Heerden and Marc De Maar. It is with great regret that we are forced to severe ties with Phillipe Gilbert after he rejected our offers of a reduced contract.
This leaves us, pre-transfers with this squad:

Out With The Old, In With The New
Pendleton's have had a rather money-making start to the transfer window, as 4 riders, Marc De Maar, Muradjan Khalmuratov, Aleksandr Serov and Olivier Kaisen left the team to the combined tune of £392,500 and a little something more...
Goodbye guys!
 
And that little something more is David Millar, British time-triallist extroardinaire and a great addition to the team at a wage of 83,000. David has had some great results in the past, including second on GC in the Tour of California. He can aim for his own national TT and road championships this year as well as TT's throughout the season and high GC placings. Great to have you on board Dave and can't wait to see you out on the course.

And Out With The Young
Cobbles talents don't really fit with Pendleton's this year... so out went Marc Machado to a team that deserve. The young Frenchman goes home to Auber-Look, leaving us with 50,000 less in wages and 55,000 more cash. Good stuff all round.

New For 2011
Pendleton's are pleased to announce four new signings for the 2011 season in Nico Sijmens, Frederik Willems, Mikael Cherel and Tim Kennaugh!
Nico Sijmens is a 31 year old Belgian who has spent most of his career riding for continental team Landbouwkrediet. Recently though he took the step up to ProTour with Accumalux and even took a win in Stage 7 of the 2010 Tour de Georgia and rode the Tour de France. He is a good team-mate for the hills and a good lead-out man and will do well if he gets in the break, capable of taking sprints, mountain points and, if they make it, the stage win.
Frederik Willems is another Belgian who has ridden in the past for Chocolade Jaqcues, Liquigas and last year Molteni. He is good in the hills and on the flats and will be another useful team-mate.
Mickael Cherel is a French puncheur of great ability who rode with the disbanded White Bear - Wild Horse last year. One of France's best on the hills, he could form a part of our hilly leadership team and have a crack at his own national championships. We are very glad to have him on board.
And our final signing is our favourite, Manx neo-pro, British starlet, stage race talent, Tim Kennaugh. He is chasing his brother into the pro ranks with venom and, although he is more likely to conquer the stage races, he has a similar level of talent. We are delighted that he chose to be a part of Pendleton's and we will help to nurture his talent to the point where he can be winning over the cycling's toughest peaks.
That concludes our most recent signings, although we hope to make some more very soon.

Another Frenchy
Another Frenchy, another puncheur, Amael Moinard joins the team. He can take on longer climb as well which could be useful and increases our French contingent which could attract sponsors for next year. Although he will mostly play second fiddle to our leaders, he will be a super domestiqu and may have a crack at riding for himself.

And we say goodbye to one...
One gaul in and another out, as Hubert Dupont leaves us to join Inter - Pirelli, in exchange for 100,000. I will be the first to admit that I didn't give Hubert much of a chance on his favoured terrain last year and I apologise for that, especially as he showed himself well when it came down to it, placing 13th overall in the mountainous, HC Tour de Langkawi. We all wish him good luck for next year and bonne chance to rip it up in the mountains.

He's back for more...
Belgian national champion and classy hilly classics rider Phillipe Gilbert returns for 2011, despite ties to the team being severed during the renewals. He realised that Pendleton's is a great place to be and, althought he took a price cut of nearly 500k, he would still get a great value deal. He was last year, as he will be this year, the team leader and with it got our best single results, including back-to-back HC classic victories in Philadelphia and then the Tre Valle Varesine and a stage win and 6th overall in the Vuelta al Pais Vasco and a 8th in the Fleche Wallone. He is renowned for his aggressive, attacking style and we hope it will take him and us to more victories this year. He is also glad to know that he will have more Belgian support this year (Frederik Willems) and better support in general. Welcome back Phillipe!

The French are massing on British shores
Another cheese-eating surrender monkey arrives at Pendleton, this time in the shape of Mathieu Ladagnous. The young Frenchman rode for American Suzuki last year and is an excellent addition to our team. He will be both a very useful lead-out man and a very useful time triallist, who we can call upon if a TTT comes around. He will be a very useful team-mate and will be at home in a squad with a strong Gallic influence, now boasting four Frenchman.

Borut Bozic Joins the Team
Slovenian wunderkind sprinter Borut Bozic has signed with Pendleton's Twicer for 2011 for the sum of £90,000. He will be 2nd joint sprinter (with our Egyptian Champion Cherif Abdallah) and will get lots of chance's to lead alongside lead-out roles for Juan Van Heerden. We hope he has a good season with the team.

And finally another Brit
Steven Cummings joins Pendleton's Twicer from Anglo-Italian squad Wiggle, where he was an integral member of the squad, including being in break after break. He is predominantly a time-triallist or domestique and will be useful for any TTT's, such as the one shown below. We're honoured to have another Brit on board and glad that it could be Steve.

A Domestic Brit Joins The Team
Graham Briggs, who spent most of his career riding the domestic circuit in the UK and spent last year in the US with Ernst and Young, has joined the team for 2011 on a wage of £60,000. The British sprinter is our fourth Briton and looks like he will be a lead-out man for the team's sprinters this year. He will probably race a calendar based around the British Isles series.

One In, One Out
Pendleton's Twicer is proud to present the biggest talent in British Cycling, Thomas Faiers. The neo-pro is a climber who has spent most of his time racing in Spain, withouth coming onto the rader. But the guy kept with Valverde and Sanchez on the training rides and was successful at the stage races and we knew we had to get his signature. And we did, for £180,000. In the future, we aim to take him to victory in the Grand Tours but, for now, he will ride for experience and as a team-mate. Welcome home Tom!
But sadly, after an elementary error from the manager, we have to let Graham Briggs go because of inconsistencies in the paperwork, when Falcon - Husqvarna had already signed him. No hard feelings though and we wish him the best of luck with Falcon next season.

Juame Rovira Signs On
As Pendleton's begins to really take shape for the 2011 season as the final riders are added to the squad, Juame Rovira, the Spanish puncheur, signs for £55,000. Another hilly domestique, he should be a very useful rider for this season and our assault on promotion. We look forward to see him tendering up the bunch before our leaders launch the final onslaught.

British Youth Remains Our Emphasis
Keeping our focus on developing talent from our home country we signed young all-rounder Mark McNally. We are unsure of what direction his career will take, but we do know that he will spend this year as a domestique gaining experience.
On the subject of British youth and gaining experience, we have loaned Tom Faiers to ProTour team Vesuvio - Accumalux. There he will be able to learn a lot from the wealth of experience their leaders have and take part in the World's biggest races, including the possibility of a Grand Tour ride.

A Hilly Addition
Another leader for the hills is Jerome Pineau, as we bolster our 2011 squad. He boosts our French contingent to 5, meaning that we could attract a sponsor from across the Channel for next year. Jerome will lead for most of the year, providing support for Phillipe in a select few races. He signed for 180,000, a fair wage in my opinion.
The squad is now very nearly complete, with only a few transfers left to make.

The Big Final Move
One of our last transfers of the season is probably our best. After hours of deliberation and negotiation we managed to get our hands on British track legend and time trial beast Bradley Wiggins. He has a lot of experience in the Continental Tour and has spent many seasons with the British 100% Me squad. He will aim for the stage races with TT's and TTT's, as well as Individual TT events, including the Isle of Man TT and the British National Time Trial Championship. He will also join David Millar, our other British time-triallist in the Chrono Duo Normand two up TT at the end of the season. These two riders are very evenly matched and should complement each other well in this race, spending a lot of the rest of the season together. Bradley's wage is an easy on the pocket £70,000, although his transfer fee was more than £1Million. We wish Bradley good luck for the year!
