2011 Team Goals
SportingNonsense
Its time for each team, ProTour and Continental, to decide upon their 5 team goals for the 2011 season, with the Calendar and Race Profiles now in place.

Team Goals are important - not only will they affect your budget for this season, but the amount you achieve will also affect your budget for the season after. If you choose harder goals, you will get a larger budget this year than easier goals - but fail to achieve them, and next year your budget will be very low.

Goals have changed this year to give you much more freedom. It is up to you which races you have goals for, and just how hard your goals are going to be. Each type of goal has a cost, and you can spend between from 14 to 23 points on your 5 different goals - the more you spend, the higher your budget, but the more pressure there is to perform.

ProTour

The table shows what each respective goal costs. There are also there additional restraints:
All teams must have at least 1 Grand Tour goal
All teams must have at least 1 'Win' Goal
All teams must have at least 1 Team Standings Goal
No more than 1 goal per Grand Tour
No more than 1 Points/KoM Goal

Continental

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/ctgoals.png

There are also restraints for Continental teams:
All teams must have at least 1 'Win' Goal
All teams must have at least 1 HC Race Goal
All teams must have at least 1 Team Standings Goal (Win, Promote, Top 10, Top 15)
No more than 1 Points/KoM Goal

Completion

When you have decided on your 5 team goals, PM them to me. I will check that they fit all the restraints, and are within the range of 14-23, and then PM you back to tell you your team's budget for the season. (Incidentally, the ProTour Salary cap is increasing to 3.5 million, while the Continental Salary cap remains at 2.5 million).

Once you know your goals, you will have a firm idea of which riders you need to target in the transfers period, so that you will be able to complete them.

Examples

ProTour:
Win, Paris-Nice
Top 3, Tour de France
Top 5, Team Standings
Top 10, Liege-Bastogne-Liege
15 Stage Wins in a Season
Cost: 19

Continental:
Win, Tour de Slovenie
Win, Grand Prix de Montreal
Top 5, Tour Down Under
Top 10, Team Standings
Stage win, Tour of Britain
Cost: 16

The anwser is probably not, but does a monument win count to a classic win?

Sorry, forget my post. Just too stupid.

Picking goals at this stage is great for new teams, but it's actually quite difficult to do at this stage for exsisting teams.

Would have preferred to do it after the contract renewals. With Vespa, if I choose a hilly goal, then I should obviously try and keep hold of Ginanni. Doesn't give much flexibility if I choose a hilly goal (though with Vespa, I have back up riders who might get some of the goals). If Ginanni wants too much to re-sign, then I'm quite prepared to let him go and rebuild Vespa around a new leader, so choosing goals now is more restrictive.

Same with Eurosport/Cafe de Colombia. Picking a stage win at the TdF would mean that I should do my best to give Cav whatever he wants in the contract renewals. However, due to the sponsor I've chosen, I'm not particularly bothered about keeping Cav, so choosing goals for the team is more uncertain than it should be.

Goals determine budget though, so it has to be done. Its an element of prediction thats needed - perhaps take a risk, take a goal targeted towards the sort of riders you hope to get, to make you more determined to have a successful transfers period

One question SN:

Why is it only possible to select a top5 in the Team Standings and the Tour?

I decided to opt for Top 3 over Top 5 for PT, and not wanting decimals involved, a Top 5 was only able to be included in those 2

I see

another question: does "Avoid relegation" count as a Team Standings goal?

Is the rider progress done is the same way as before so you can count that in when looking at your team's strength?

There will be a change to the xp system in the coming season, which will effect rider progression from 2011 onwards, Ill stick a topic up on it soonish

Just wondering, doesn't acheiving your goals means more money? Or is it all about choosing the toughest goals?

The amount of goals you achieve has an important effect on your team budget for the following season. 5/5 of the hardest goals will give your team the biggest possible boost, but 0/5 of the hardest goals will have the complete opposite effect.

The possible variations in your next seasons budget are much greater, depending on your success rate, than the amount you can gain in the short term by opting for the hardest goals now to get the most money.

It ultimately depends on how well you think your team can do, and whether you want to risk aiming higher

Not quite sure what you're getting at - could you possibly reword your question?

Does this years size of my budget depends on this years goals only? Or do I get an amount of money for what I acheived last year?

You get money for what you achieved in the past year, as well.

My list has already been sent.

Okay.

This years budget is first determined by adding:
Reward for Finishing Position
A proportion of any money remaining from last year
The 2,500,000 salary cap for continental teams (3,500,000 for ProTour)
A small bonus for having a rider in the Top 10 of the individual standings

This is then all multiplied by a factor, depending on the amount of sponsor goals you completed, and the difficulty of those goals - in the case of last year, normal or hard.

And then an extra value is added to that, depending on how hard the sponsor goals you choose for this year are.
