Max Belaschov: another race for glory
Maximka
As always I've made little tiny improvement in PCMDaily 2010 db, just added myself there with... hmm... very good stats. This time I can write big story, as my big occupy on my scientific job ended, so it's your decision - should I write it or not.

PS. I already started a season with Androni Giocattoli

OK, I AM STARTING THEN

I stood on the podium and cried. Emotions were too strong.

It all started in 2000, when I just started to cycle. Two years I spent in my native city and after that I came to St. Petersburg to Alexander Kuznetsov. He is genius trainer and after just three months with him I had won my first race. At the end of 2007 year I had 17 victories, including 2007' U-23 world championship. I was at peak of popularity in my city, I signed tow very good pro-contracts (one - with Contentpolis team for 2 years, and other - with Ridley, bike manufacturer, for 3 years), I had very beautiful girlfriend, I was happy.

All this ended on Friday, 8 of February 2008. My girlfriend said to me that she does not want to be with me, we had very bad discussion about that and with bad feelings I went to my training. I made 25km and with my brain concentrated on that conversation I have not seen a car on a crossroads. They said to me that I had no chances, as that car ridden with 200 km/h speed and I just could not stop even if I could see them.

Anyway, my season went to ass. Moreover, I realized that I am scary of training. When I ride a race with closed roads it is good, I am OK, but when I have to ride on road with cars, motorcycles and so on - it is anguish! Two years with Spanish team bring me two second places in one-day races and disappointment.

At that moment I met with Gianni Faresin. We had ride our mountain bikes in forest and talked. "Why are you don't show your potential?" - He asked. I answered, that I am scary of trainings and can not approach my fitness peak."You know, Gianni Savio asked me to become sports director of his team. I going to agree with that inviting and I think that I can solve your problem. Let's meet in two weeks. I promise you, you will win something big next year!".

And now, after four months after that I am standing on a Tour of SanLuis podium as race winner. Four months! Four months and I feel line nothing left of those two f..ing years! I had won first stage in bunch sprint and after that was main favorite. Right now I don't think about what races I will ride next, I don't think about my salary, in my head there is only one thought. I'm back!

I feel great! I know italian language quite good, so it's not a problem. Also there are some russian-speaking riders in any race, so I always have someone to talk.

Yes, I going to make it from my point, like a blog. It's a hard difficulty.

And, Thanks for all of you for your comments!

Grand Premio Costa degli Etruschi
xmages.net/upload/704efa6b.jpg

My next race was Grand Premio Costa degli Etruschi, one-day classic race from San Vincenzo to Donoratico. You know, it is the race for sprinters as almost all its length is flat as a table. So, our team sent here all best sprinters: Alberto Loddo, Francesco Ginani and me. Well, I am not a clearly sprinter, fighter maybe, but I have very good acceleration, so I could win a race if finish line is not very long, as I have shown in January at first stage of San Luis tour.

xmages.net/upload/3bd14bad.jpg

This race was my first race in European tour leader's jersey and I hope it won't be the last. Today was very windy; windspeed was around 30-40 m/s, so we were aware of echelons. Luckily, wind blows downstream, so it just increased speed of bunch. Anyway, I decided to select myself in breakaway. I attacked on km 2 with other 3 guys. We made a gap of around one minute on climb, but I guess, they were scary of riding with a man in Continental leader Jersey and they didn't work at all.

Of course, I did not want to make a job for them and my group was catched. Then another rider of our team attacked with someone from Sparkasse team. It was Massimo Giunti, the winner of first stage of Giro della Calabria. That breakaway was released and had a maximum gap of around 7 minutes. But of course, no one wanted that group to be first at the finish, so right from a middle of race many teams started their chase. As our rider was in first group, we just controlled a speed. My goal was to protect Francesco, I even bringed him a bottle of water few times.

After first group was catched, we tried to break away again, this time with Bertagnolli, but did not succeed.

It all decided in bunch sprint. With high windspeed it was very hard to make a train for us, so everyone was on its own account. It was losing situation and our best rider, Ginani, was only 11th. A victory was solved in a battle of two: Oscar Gatto and Enrico Rossi.

ISD rider started his finish spurt very early and made huge space between him and others. But Rossi made it like on textbook: first set on his wheel, then overtook him and that's it - victory. Gatto even loosed his second position to Romain Feillu.

I finished 21st. I think it is very good for me, as I like more uphill finishes. My next race will be Giro della province di Grossetto or maybe Trofeo Laigueglia.

The game crashed at exporting results, so here is a picture of it:
