In a result similar to many PCM versions of the race, a large first lap breakaway got clear in the Australian Championships, and built up too big a gap. So the surprise winner is Garmins Travis Meyer. Most of the pre-race favourites were over 6 minutes back, while McEwen didnt start.
1 Travis Meyer (WA) 4:26:31 2 David Kemp (QLD) 0:00:31 3 Damien Turner (VIC) 0:01:08 4 Russell Van Hout (SA) 0:01:43 5 Hayden Brooks (QLD) 0:03:14 6 Jack Bobridge (SA) 0:03:29 7 David Pell (VIC) 8 Bernard Sulzberger (TAS) 9 William Clarke (TAS) 10 Mark O'brien (VIC) 0:05:09 11 Johnnie Walker (VIC) 0:05:16 12 John Anderson (QLD) 13 Darren Rolfe (QLD) 0:06:23 14 Jai Crawford (TAS) 15 Baden Cooke (VIC) 0:06:31 16 Zakkari Dempster (VIC) 17 Jonathan Cantwell (QLD) 18 Luke Roberts (SA) 19 Cameron Jennings (QLD) 20 Matt Wilson (VIC) 21 Lachlan Norris (MTB) 22 Peter Mcdonald (NSW) 0:06:35 23 Steven Robb (VIC) 24 Michael Rogers (ACT) 0:06:37 25 Matthew Lloyd (VIC) 0:06:42 26 Fabio Calabria (VIC) 0:07:16 27 Mark Frendo (QLD) 0:08:06 28 Brendan Jones (NSW) 0:08:11 29 Wes Sulzberger (TAS) 30 Daniel Mcconnell (VIC)
Over in New Zealand, the two favourites Roulston and Dean made the front group as expected - but neither could beat the British Endura team rider Jack Bauer in the final sprint.

Yeah, older brother Cameron is time trial champion and the younger one Travis is road race champion...really nice and double-nice as they are on the same team
