Hello there, and somehow you've stumbled upon our cycling team's headquarters!

Background

The image left on Americans of the sport of cycling as a whole when Armstrong confessed to doping was not a pretty one. However, a new generation of clean American riders have come and are ready to open the eyes of the American people. Set to redefine the current synecdochical attitude towards the sport in general, Dell, a computer tech leader in today's market, based in Round Rock and founded in Austin, have decided to back a road cycling initiative. It is set to launch in the Continental Division in 2014, but reluctance to financially fully support the project (due to management after privatization), they have brought along a co-sponsor...

----

361°, a Chinese athletic apparel company that has increased in popularity the past few years. Based in Fujian, the company has taken a surge financially and are now interested in pitching in towards a new cycling initiative that transcends political interests. The Chinese have shown potential in track cycling, but the aim now is to make road cycling more appealing to the average citizen, by signing Asian riders and getting TV time , something CCTV5 has continued to increase coverage of year by year.

Objectives

Dell did not give us awfully high expectations this year, but they certainly aren't expecting poor performances either. They have given me a rough plan of what they want me to achieve, and I think it's possible.

Obviously, the Tour of Utah is the most important race on our calendar and our sponsors have indicated it is the only chance for some attention. Outside of that, we want to win Beauce, but that is going to be tough. A top 10 when all is said and done should be doable, and we hope to pick up 10 wins along the way. Last but not least, the sponsor expects a decent top 5 in Madrid, as it is the only classic that is a goal on our calendar.

Rumors, Press Releases, and Such

#8: Apr. 3, 2014 -- Full Calendar Announced
After we were able to secure a few of our targets in the transfer season, we thought long and hard on what the fitness schedules of our riders should be. In the end, we felt that we made the best decisions that we could. As far as our calendar outside of C2HC races, we mainly chose our races based on these philosophies:

- Small Tours that we could Podium First
- Mostly C2 Races with a few C1 Tours here and there
- Avoiding flat races

In the end, while we can't dodge every weakness, we were able to craft a calendar that suited our team orientation, and we didn't have many race clashes either. However, we can already feel that competition will be stiff in certain races, but our riders are looking for the challenge. The full calendar can be found here and the announcement here.

#7: Mar. 24, 2014 -- Transfers, Part 2
It's been nearly two weeks in for the MG transfer season and most MG teams are just about finalized. Dell - 361° are still looking for a couple of pieces here and there, however, most of our leaders are set. Putting the wraps on the transfer season, here's what the manager had to say:
Positives
Smile Getting a GC leader
Smile Sticking to the sponsor nationalities for the most part, in a difficult market
Smile Sealing up talents of the future
Negatives
Frown Focused too much on outbidding
Frown Failed to look outside NA and AS in the first week of transfers
Frown Failed to get a decent sprinter
Frown Didn't grasp the value of transfer money

So, with that being said, if you have yet to catch up with our transfer news, you can find it in this post (and further down if necessary).

Spoiler

#6: Mar. 13, 2014 -- Transfer Season
With the transfer period kicked off by MG President SportingNonsense today, Dell have immediately jumped in the action. The frantic scramble to assemble a 15 rider team is on for all CT teams, and Dell have made a statement by jumping in on some early bids on some riders. Details about any trades are not released yet, but you can get the latest info on all the transfers here and here. You don't want to miss anything as records are being shattered!

#5: Mar. 4, 2014 -- Equipment
The team are ready to reveal equipment for 2014! The winner of the fan contest for equipment, fintas, has had his sketch finally created by GMC. However, their wheel technology wasn't exactly up to par, so we had to rely on Dura-Ace wheels instead. Hope you enjoy!

#4: Mar. 1, 2014 -- velonews.com
In an exclusive interview, Phillip Gaimon had the opportunity to interview Dell - 361°'s manager.

Gaimon: A few months ago, you mentioned that your ambition was to build an American climbing team. Are you still sticking to this plan?
Code: I really hope so. But I wouldn't put money on a climbing focus for sure, with the release of the new banding system some of our plans may change.
G: Do you have any news on team equipment yet?
C: No, not as of this moment. We are working on it.
G: Can you go in depth as to your goals this season?
C: Our #1 priority has to be the Tour of Utah, as Dell has made this clear to me. Another band of interest is Langkawi, but that might not suit our interests well. We did notice the Tour of Beijing on the HC calendar, and it would be awesome for us to ride that Tour, but we are a long shot to get a wildcard, don't count on it. With our market, I cannot be too optimistic, but I am definitely aiming to finish in the top half of the standings when all is said and done.
G: With your goals having been said, can you reveal a shortlist as to who you might pursue?
C: No.
G: Why not?
C: There's already enough attention to our spectrum of riders, there's no need to draw anymore of it.
G: Any words you want to add before our time is up?
C: I can tell you Dell makes better computers than Lenovo.

Leave your comments below if you want to reflect on what Code had to say in our exculsive interview.

#3: Feb. 28, 2014 -- 2014 Jersey Revealed
A few months ago, when we were laying the foundation for the team, we had a little fan contest to see who could design the best jersey possible. The winner ended up being Bikex, who used a computer program to submit an awesome design to the Team HQ. In the coming days, 361° will aim to create the jersey with superior quality. Our colors are sure to garner us some attention in the photos that will be taken in the coming season.

#2: Feb. 27, 2014 -- A statement from the team
When we had the vision of an USA/CHN team a few months back, we had a rough idea as to our team composition and what the transfer period might bring for us. However, we did not realize that in this same year, many other teams were established here in America, so our outlook on the market has changed a bit. Our focus is no longer to aim for at least half of the roster to be American, but, rather, to snag up as many American riders while still having the flexibility to pick up any rider that we see fit on the team.

#1: Feb. 26, 2014 --
The team HQ has been opened and the team is now open to comments, questions, etc. from the media!

Transfer Update

In the frantic scramble for riders in free agency and transfers within the team during the transfer season, the team lacked the time to update the media on its signings. We've finally opened up our HQ once again to the media and for the next hour or so we will discuss the transfer period so far -- which after only one week, seemed to calm down quite a bit. The team is about 90% done with its goals for the period, but Dell - 361° manager has stated that there may still be one big piece coming in, depending on negotiations. Without further talking, here is a review of how the transfer period went.

MAIN TARGET

upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/86/Saul_Raisin.jpg/220px-Saul_Raisin.jpg

Saul Raisin was probably our number one transfer target this year. Coming from the US, a region important to Dell, he is the absolute leader for all Mountainous stage races, and will most likely help us the most in achieving our goals. The veteran can climb and TT with the best of the CT riders, but his ability to get over punchy hills is a bit lacking. Nonetheless, we pursued him at all costs, and in the end he agreed to sign with us for 175,000. Maybe that is overvalued, but no rider goes cheap in the American market.

NICE ADDITIONS

Besides the addition of Raisin, we also picked up three other solid riders from free agency. First, Joey Rosskopf agreed to sign for 110,000 here at Dell - 361° this season. He's a great all-rounder, able to climb and TT. Also, he is only 25 and will be looking to improve in the years to come.

Spoiler
FLMOHITTSTARECCOBSPACCFTRDHPRL
737174747268576170686775

The next important target we signed was American TT specialist Freddy Cruz, coming here for a wage of 100,000. Like Rosskopf, he is only 25 and could get better in the future. If we send him to the right races, he could be one of the top TT men in the CT.

Spoiler

We were also happy to sign Chinese sprinter Xiaoyong Dong, for minimum wage. He's certainly not the fastest, but 361° wanted at least some Chinese riders, and Dong's sprinting ability might be able to get him in the top 10 if we send him to the right races. We didn't originally envision a sprinting team, so he may or may not be our leader depending on what we intend to do in the next week. His only weakness would be his descending.

TRADE MOVES

Besides the overpriced free agency period, the team acquired some key pieces through trades with other teams as well. Firstly, we secured Craig Lewis from Project: Africa, who excels on all terrains.

Libin Chen is probably our biggest trade, coming from Oz Cycling Project. He may just be a mediocre sprinter now, but down the road he'll turn into one of the best Asian sprinters in the game. 250,000 wasn't cheap, but it was certainly worth it.

AMEXpc offloaded to us Carlos Ospina and Maher Hasanoui. Ospina is getting on in age, but he'll help our efforts in the punchy races, as we are quite lacking in that department. Hasanoui is an upcoming stage race talent, and we are excited to see what he can develop into. Both riders aren't important to the sponsors, but at minimum wage no one can complain.

Last but not least, we got for free Tuguldur Tuulhangai from La Vie Claire, a solid Mongolian sprinter who may lead us in some races.

OTHER SIGNINGS

Besides the aforementioned signings, other riders also agreed to join our team for this season. Fan Hsin Chu signed here for 55,000, boosting our mountain train. Likewise, the signing of Sho Hatsuyama also improved our climbing, and he came here for minimum wage.

Both Eric Young and Luke Keough signed here at Dell - 361° for 110,000 and 85,000 respectively. Both will most likely turn out to be good sprinters in the future, as they may form the core of our team for many years to come.

Lastly, Zhou Guozhang, another sprinting prospect, signed for minimum wage.

SO, WHAT'S NEXT

Well, the listed riders above only total up to 14. Clearly, that is not enough to continue onto the season. Luckily, our manager has left plenty cap for another signing, transfer, or stagiare! You'll just have to wait and see, as our transfers are not quite done yet! Stay tuned!

Update #2

Feillu Acquired

upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/20/Brice_Feillu_TR_2011.jpg

With a bit of extra transfer money left, we gave up our search for that top sprinter and decided to add to our climbing depth by transferring Brice Feillu for 120,000 from Risa - Ergon. We will pay him a 70,000 wage this year.

Spoiler
FLMOHITTSTARECCOBSPACCFTRDHPRL

That brings us to the minimum rider amount at 15 riders, but we are not quite done yet with transfers. Dell - 361° manager has speculated that maybe one more rider will join the team, as well as a stagiare or two. To read on his thoughts for the transfer season as a whole, you can always check our newsbox here.

You can be called lucky to get Feillu for 120,000. I have bidded up to 170,000 earlier but that wasnt enough at that point so i had to look for different options... Wink

Yes. He originally wanted 200,000 but I guess everyone wants to get everything finalized so he settled. Smile Waiting towards the end of transfers has its drawbacks, though...you really have to settle for what's left.
