It sounds nice and relaxing but Karl really needs to get his head together and stop lying too |

Act 4: Saving Grace
Scene 10: Perspective
Until today I hadn’t given it much thought, let alone asked. Not quite sure what triggered the thought but I asked Hannah anyway. “What was the date when i… you know… did the thing…?” From when Lucy broke me until just after Hannah saved me I have no idea of timing. I knew what the date was today but I was a bit hazy about the last few weeks.
“Oh, well it was about 6 weeks ago Karl. It was New Years Day, and you were lucky I was going into Town at all!”
So I’d spent about 2 ½ months on the bend after that night in London. Time blurs once you drop off the cliff. In my head it had been a lot longer and that I’d come a lot further.
“Hey Hannah… What are you doing on Valentine’s Day?”
“Nothing much, but I know you’ve got an appointment with Dr. Aritza.” Of course I do… “But I guess skipping one session couldn’t hurt. Provided you do what I say for the whole day with no complaints! If you can manage it all there will be a very nice reward”

@Jak - Hehehe treats
@Sutty - Not many better days on the calendar
Act 4: Saving Grace
Scene 11: Renovation, Part I
The day is filled with promise! A whole day with Hannah and a whole evening and the plan is for a whole night as well. One of the curious things about the mind is how it holds onto those first times. Yes in part I am talking about sex but more than that. The first time you swim, the first time you meet your best friends, the first time you taste that food you love… the first kiss… the first love.
“So… You ready for our day together?” Hannah stands in my doorway and is a vision of beauty. Flowing brown hair and figure hugging clothing certainly hits the spot with me. “You’re going to want to wear these at least.”
Not quite what I was expecting if I’m honest. It’s Lycra. More specifically cycling Lycra with a padded crotch. I think I can see where this day is heading, and it’s not quite where I wanted it.
“The bike is waiting downstairs. Don’t keep me waiting too long Karl, I tend to get mischievous when I’m bored.”

@Ian - Seems like everyone agrees with that
Act 4: Saving Grace
Scene 12: Renovation, Part II
The last time I was on a bike was that TT with Lucy in late August, and that certainly did more harm than good. Before then it was a simple ride to the beach with Lucy before I proposed to her. Finally before that it was only the Nationals. So Hannah making it our day out did come as an unwanted surprise. I mean, there was a reason I hadn’t ridden in so long.
But against all of that I was willing to give it a try. A lot had happened since then and I knew Hannah wouldn’t let anything bad happen to me. In some ways I harked back a long time to when Lucy and I first dated and the team took camps to the Iberian Peninsula. I guess I was willing to accept some of that passion back into my life for the first time for a long time.
So off we went for a day of cycling. First destination was the seafront a nice gentle ride of about 15 minutes. From there we would cut back into the hills behind town and see how things went. Hannah was always checking on me to make sure it wasn’t too much. The image of her, silhouetted against the raw hills in the sunshine, will stick in my mind just like the first time I saw her at school.

@Jak - Well last time he went on a ride it was good thing, then everything went wrong
@Sutty - Dirty boy!
Act 4: Saving Grace
Scene 13: Renovation, Part III
We had been out for about an hour when we started climbing for real. The road had been up and down for a good few kilometres in the foothills but now we were hitting those mountains just off the coast. I’d never been a fan of mountains at the best of times, more built for powering on flat roads and cobbles. Yes I could do some hills but that was more about being able to put out big power in short bursts.
Hannah was thin and athletic so this was perfect terrain for her. It took no time at all before I was in trouble. Being that long off the bike and in serious trouble had hardly helped my ability, so my breathing laboured and my cadence dropped. I clicked down the gears trying to just keep things together on the climb. It wasn’t even overly steep but I had nothing to match Hannah.
She glanced back to see I was still there, and I was but my shoulders and body were rolling and the bike was honking. I swear there was a glint in her eye at that point, as she clicked a gear and accelerated, forcing me to dig that bit deeper to keep up. My head bows down as I focus on turning the pedals, and that is when the road levels and then drops.

@ALL - So this is where things start to slow up a bit. Not masses of stacked scenes and more busy things to do. But still good stuff none the less
Act 4: Saving Grace
Scene 14: Renovation, Part IV
Bright crisp sunshine glistens off the blacktop. The white and yellow markings imitate the sky above and the dark surface snakes down the side of the range into the trees and groves of farmland. It stretches away for miles and bends back around the climbs towards the shoreline far below and away. This mix of flowing open bends and tight technical twists just looked incredible.
Hannah crested a good 30 seconds ahead of me and dropped away at speed. The weight beneath me vanished over the crest and the bike accelerated fast. I clicked up the gears all the way trying to find that resistance in the pedals. It came at the end of the range as the speed kept mounting.
One after another the corners rushed up and disappeared behind me. Within moments I shot past Hannah, the wind howling in my ears. I only touched the brakes for the serious hairpins and otherwise just let the wheels roll. On the steeper sections I must have easily been touching 90-100km/h. In less than half an hour the road flattened out as it hit the coast again and turned back towards town and in doing so the wind whipped up into my face.

Act 4: Saving Grace
Scene 15: Renovation, Part V
Headwinds are the bane of any cyclist, more than gradient. But today I relished the challenge. The harder the wind blew into my face the harder I pushed the pedals. This was more than just a day out now, this had become a rejuvenation. Hannah had planned it all to perfection so I was going to deliver the final step.
I pushed it so hard on those final kilometres that I was overtaking cars! Speed limits no longer applied to me as the road submitted to my power. The ride topped off with a short sprint uphill back to the top of the seawall in town, and after the rest of the day it barely registered with me.
By the time Hannah rolled in I was waiting, sitting on the seawall watching the boats come in and out. She parked up and slid down next to me. Just like the bridge we sat in silence with our legs hanging free. Except this time we were smiling.

I really love the picture, the time you put in to picking the right ones really pays off sometimes, especially for chapters like these, where you need the image to "round off" the piece perfectly. Good work!

@Dippo - As i've said before i can spend longer picking the images than writing the scenes. This one, however, took maybe 10 seconds and the reason i pretty obvious if you look.
The Act ending pic (yes i've finished writing the act) is going to take me ages to get right, but hopefully less time than the ending to Act 3
@Sutty - Someone as attractive as Hannah could turn almost any man to jelly. Then add in their relationship and past and Karl was just helpless to the charms
@ALL - Slight dilemma i could use some input on. I'm not quite sure when to post Scene 16. Currently Karl is at Valentines Day with Hannah so i was thinking of delaying the next update until Friday as a special scene. But where i've now got the Act finished i just want to get it posted... Thoughts?
