EPIC - Season 1 Part 1
brewers90
I have played stage 10 of Langkawi guys. It's a good'un. But I don't think I will have time to put the report up today. So I shall make you wait Cool.

Ollfardh
No worries, I like your good pace Wink

Also would like to congratulate Nacho for his first full race report, I liked it, so thanks!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Selwink
Yeah, good job. Even though I didn't participate, I thought it was very interesting, or at least that's how you made it.

Cheers guys, lucky I only have 1 day races till the end of part 1 Wink

Jakstar22
Vacansoleil has a lot of podiums in Langwaki. Last stage one win. Come on guys.

Ollfardh
Rankings will be updated after Langkawi, but can already say Europecar and Movistar made huge progress.

I was hoping we'd have all race finished at this point, but San Luis and Oman are a bit behind. Expect startlists from Omloop, Kuurne, Lugano and Almeria soon!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

nacho63
Has Oman started yet?

Well, that weekend flew by. I was very busy as it turned out! Stage 10 will be up today Smile.

I also like the way you put that Oman was "a bit behind". That's very diplomatic Mr O.Fardh Wink. I would say Oman needs to be given to someone else at this point because this is ridiculous.

Ollfardh
I've PM'ed with Jaxika last week and he's still saying he can do it, so until I hear otherwise, he'll be reporting it soonish Smile

Le Tour de Langkawi Stage 10

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0010_zps95ba1530.jpg

Favourites: Brookes (BAR), Guardini (AST), Howard (OGE), D.Van Poppel (VCD), Kruopis (OGE)
Outsiders: Alinejad (RLT), Porsev (KAT), B.Van Poppel (VCD), Vantomme (CRE), Siskevicius (SOJ)

Weather: 25°, overcast. Strong wind, turning into a gale near the end.

The final stage here in Malaysia and, after a hard ten days, most teams are looking forward to going home. But can we have one final sprint finish?

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/EPIC%20Langkawi/PCM0001_zps94fd7087.jpg

107 km to go: With a bit of undulation at the start, the peloton struggle to keep the breakaway under control. Eventually, ten riders get a gap and start to put the hammer down. They are; Valencia (COL), Kuznetsov (KAT), De Mesmaeker (TNN), Roth (CSS), I.Kovalev (RVL), Talabardon (SOJ), Reimer (MTN), McEvoy (TNE), Delfosse (CRE) and Dion (BSE). There is no surprise that BAR and OGE are not happy with this group and give chase.

87 km: Despite the peloton chasing, the breakaway is actually pulling away, so they give up and let them go. For now.

67 km: The breakaway has its maximum advantage of 3'20 on the peloton as all of the usual teams come to the front of the bunch. With a very strong wind out there today, the lightweight climbers are going to have a serious problem today.

44 km: As the escapees roll through the first sprint, the order is Reimer, Kuznetsov, Roth. The peloton follow two minutes later, the pace extremely high already.

16 km: At the final intermediate sprint of the race, the star of yesterday, De Mesmaeker takes maximum points, ahead of Dion and Delfosse. VCD are once again burying themselves and the peloton are just 45 seconds back now. The bunch is strung out like we're back in Qatar.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/EPIC%20Langkawi/PCM0002_zpse581e668.jpg

14 km: And almost instantly, a huge split occurs as over half of the peloton get left behind. Unsurprisingly, most of the pure climbers are gone, including Atapuma, Vorganov, Sella, Deignan, Pirazzi, Bongiorno, Mendes, Didier and King. There will be some big changes on the GC tonight.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/EPIC%20Langkawi/PCM0003_zps52962e43.jpg

5 km: The very small peloton has all but caught the breakaway now as Valencia goes on the attack. The other nine acknowledge that they are beaten today and drop back. Surely, it's going to be a bunch sprint today?

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/EPIC%20Langkawi/PCM0004_zpsa2e989a1.jpg

2 km: Well, sit down everyone. We have a bunch sprint!! Valencia is finally caught and Astana are in a great position as Guarnieri attempts to drag Guardini to the line. OGE and VCD are both up there aswell, with Felline, Duque and Alinejad trying to get free rides to the end. BAR are absolutely nowhere. Where are you now, O'Callaghan?

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/EPIC%20Langkawi/PCM0005_zps579b6f76.jpg

1 km to go: Guardini and D.Van Poppel are going head to head as both try to pick up their first victory. Surely the Italian can't let this one slip, can he? Brookes is, as usual, going at lightspeed but he's coming from a different county for the final kilometre! Alinejad is well placed again.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/EPIC%20Langkawi/PCM0006_zpsec6fa973.jpg

500m to go: Guardini looks to have easily seen off the challenge of Van Poppel while Alinejad is still waiting on the Dutchman's wheel. Brookes is still making rapid progress but can he close that gap in just 500 metres?

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/EPIC%20Langkawi/PCM0007_zpse2e672f5.jpg

FINISH: Yet another blanket finish here as Guardini finally gets his stage win. Alinejad, who has really excelled here with incredible positioning skills, takes second ahead of D.Van Poppel and the phenomenally fast Brookes, whose team let him down again. Those four are without a doubt the standout sprinters here, as well as Howard, who could only get sixth today after his leadout blocked him. Only 52 riders are given the same time, as Chaves, Jacobs, Clarke and Jungels make big gains today.

Hmmm nice from Fabian for the points, but can't he just grab someone's wheel rather than try and sprint 5km?

Marc De Maar, who would've guessed Grin

Too bad for Alinejad and RadioShack, they were close to the win a few times.

Thanks for some smooth reporting, Brewers!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

No problem. Glad to be a part of it Grin. I have to say, I was sort of cheering for Alinejad in that last stage, he really did deserve a win. Fantastic positioning with no help from his team!

Oh, and I'll ask again, just in case. Does anyone know the flag code for Curacao? I've tried a few and none of them work. Maybe PCM.Daily doesn't think it exists.

Pretty sure the flag is not on Daily. I made an extensive search myself a while back finding a lot of "new" flags: https://pcmdaily.com/forum/viewthread....d_id=28244

I believe the most correct is to use the Dutch Antilles (AN, ), but I'm no expert in geopolitics Wink

There is no flag code for Curacao. It just uses the standard dutch one again. However there is an image file somewhere that is the same size and works, i've used it before.... but i can't tell you where it is right now

It was a tough experience, but all in all I'm very happy with my results in my first ever stage race. A podium and some good work isn't all that bad if I'm to say it myself!
I don't know how anyone can have the legs to attack on the last days of a GT though, but hopefully I'll end up being one of those guys one day...
