Team Argos-Shimano
Team Argos-Shimano are an UCI ProTour based in The Netherlands.
Founded in 2005 as Shimano-Memory Corp, an UCI Professional Continental, Argos-Shimano were awarded their UCI ProTour licences at the start of the 2013 season to compete at World Tour level. In 2012, the team received their second wildcard invitation to the 2012 Tour de France, along with three other French-registered teams Cofidis, Team Europcar and Saur-Sojasun.
Renowned for their performances in the flat sprint stages including this years Tour de France with star rider Marcel Kittel and his excellent lead out train, Argos-Shimano will be looking to extend the talent of their team to challenge in the mountains towards the end of the year but the new team principle Philip Kilos has promised that they will remain to do what they do best, SPRINT!

Since the take over of Argos-Shimano by Philip Kilo, there has been much talk about the direction of the team. Now with the first 3rd of the season goals announced along with our countered goals and the calender almost in place, I am happy to announce our team leaders!
Marcel Kittel
Unsurprising to all of you Marcel Kittel is the star man of the team and is our first team leader to be announced. He will lead us on many WT races and one day races throughout the year and will aim to win Milan San Remo and stages of the Tour de France with the possiblity of the Green Jersey.
John Degenkolb
John Degenkolb is a strong sprinter in his own right, sometimes overlooked by Marcel Kittel, John is a valuable member to squad and also a team leader. Not as fast as Marcel but can climb the hills better than the top tier sprinters and posses quality on the cobbles. We race the Giro and the Vuelta with some one day races as well.
1 more leader will be announced at the end of the transfer window, come back to check other news at Argos-Shimano HQ

Team Argos-Shimano are recruiting!
Argos-Shimano as well as every team in the pro-peloton are looking to bring in new faces to boost current team rosters. These riders are unsigned or to be neo-pros with WT Teams able to sign 2 and Conti teams able to sign 6.
We are currently in talks with a few climbers that we believe will help us challenge in mountains in one week races and grand tours. We can confirm we have approached 3 riders, 2 denied and 1 very close to completion.

DONE DEAL
Team Argos-Shimano are happy to announce the signing of young British rider Josh Burton. The 19 year old is a pure climber and the bright spark will add strength to our squad by representing our jersey in the mountains in one week races and one Grand Tour. He is our confirmed leader of the Tour of Britain assuming we gain the wildcard needed.

Hey everyone, my name is Josh Burton and I am the newest recruit here at Team Argos - Shimano. Last year, I won the national hill-climb Championship. Obviously, I'm a climber. I love nothing more than putting in big attacks on climbs, no matter how much it hurts. I know if it hurts me, it hurts everyone else!
It might be quite a surprising move for many as the team has no British riders (well, apart from Lucy Garner!) but I couldn't turn down the opportunity to have a free role in a WorldTour team while I'm still 19! I'm definitely looking to win some fans with my aggressive style and if there's a KoM jersey to be had, then I'm always there.
My main goal for the season is to put in a strong performance in the mountains during the WT races I will start, which will hopefully include the Giro d'Italia! I will hopefully be allowed to go for breakaways in the tougher stages of the Giro and maybe a stage win isn't out of the question at some point this year.
I also hope to perform well in my national tour at the end of the season but we have to hope that the EPIC management see my potential and give the team a wildcard for the race. Caerphilly Mountain is right up my street (not literally, I'm not Welsh!).
I would just like to say I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity and hope to repay the team with some mega rides in the mountains. And I hope to gain some fans this season!
Josh Burton

With Argos-Shimano already confirming the signing of Josh Burton to the team for this season, we are still in the market for one more fresh face to strengthen the roster. The attributes we are looking for is a young climber or stage race from Europe or America. We will accept approaches from agents to sell their rider to us.
Our last signing will put us on the 30 max rider limit.

With young British climber Josh Burton already joining us this window, Argos Shimano still have one spot remaining to fill. DS Philip Kilo has revealed that he is hoping to see a solid 22-23 year old stage racer or an explosive climber come along but Argos-Shinamo will weigh up the options so the make the right choice. We have shorted listed two young stage racers at this moment of time.

Transfer Update - Argos-Shimano torn
Argos-Shimano can reveal that DS Philip Kilo has shortlisted two riders to fill the last spot in the team roster this season. One rider a very strong climber and another a young stage racer with time trial capabilities. It is expected that Argos-Shimano will make a decision tonight on who their final rider will be but will not rule the possibility of signing a new rider that may come along before tonight.

Oreste Ghita signs
Team Argos-Shimano are extremely happy to announced the signing of 23 year old Romanian stage racer, Oreste Ghita. The talented rider is a very strong climber and long ranged time trials, and hopefully he will provide us with some GC results over the course of season. As you can imagine he will come in as team leader will be looking to lead in WT and Continental races. He will also be confirmed for this years Vuelta a Espana.
Oreste Ghita is confirmed as our second and last signing of the window together with young British climber Josh Burton, Philip Kilo has said to be very happy with the business done this week, "We set out with a goal to sign two climbers with the hope of finding a stage racer, so I can only be pleased." It would be likely to see Josh support Oreste this year but both will be given their own opportunities to lead. Argos-Shimano roster is now full at the 30 maximun rider limit.

Hello everyone,
My name is Oreste Ghita and I want to say to all of you that I am extremely happy. Today I signed my first pro contract in my life. I am thankful to my trainer for all these years of hard work that eventually pay off and to my family for all the support.
Signing with Argos Shimano is a dream but also a great responsibility. I had to prove that their choice was the right one. The negotiations were short, they convinced me very quickly by giving me the opportunity to lead the team in some stage races. I dream about Vuelta and this year the roads of Spain suit me very well, with all the climbing parts. I know that I am young and I still have a lot to learn, but I am confident of my strengths and I know what I am capable of. I know Josh and Warren since we crossed our paths last year in Tour de l‘Avenir and I am proud and happy that I will ride with them. |

Controversy in the Argos camp!
Telegraaf.nl Telesport can report that 4 time stage winner of the Tour de France Marcel Kittel is unhappy and confused on what his future lies at Argos-Shimano.
With the recent influx of climbers joining the Dutch team, people have questioned the teams ambitions in this years Tour de France and further down the line. It has been no secret Argos-Shimano are looking to expand and become more of a threat in the mountains and general classifications but had been adamant to carry on their traditional of fast sprinters and classy lead out trains.
Marcel Kittel is reported to have said "I'm not quite sure what my plans will be for the season now, I had hope to lead the team again at the Tour de France but now I do not know, I for sure am unhappy and things must be clearer in near future." He also went onto to say "I know what Argos' plans are but this is looking like a Cav and Sky situation now, it didn't work, I want to win races in the grand tours, not carry bottles." It is quite clear that the 25 year old is looking for some info from the top and Director Sportif Philip Kilo or Argos Shimano are yet to come out and explain the matter.
Argos-Shimano are expected to come out with a statement tomorrow, clearly outlining their plans for the season and where the leaders lie in the team.
