This 25km will decide the race. Lars Boom is in a strong position, and perhaps the only man who can stop him is Dave Zabriskie. But can the American overhaul a 1'11 gap? Plenty of strong time triallists lost time on Stage 2, so will be hunting for a strong stage placing. Of particular interest is Michael Rogers - this will be the first head to head between Rogers and Zabriskie since they dropped down from the ProTour.

First up is Dennis van Winden with a benchmark time of 33'48

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-2.jpg

World Time Trial champion Michael Rogers of course beats him though, with 33'07. A stage win is the only way he can really salvage his race.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-3.jpg

Andrew Tennant slotted into 3rd place, 56 seconds down.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-4.jpg

Kai Reus took 3rd from him, coming in with a gap of 43 seconds to Rogers.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-5.jpg

The next notable name is Dominique Cornu, and what a ride! He beats Michael Rogers by 2 seconds to take the lead!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-6.jpg

Vasili Kiryenka moved into 5th place at the finish, 49 seconds down.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-7.jpg

Cornu beat one of the favourites in Rogers, but that is all he can manage. Dave Zabriskie storms to a new leading time - a stage winning time - of 32'46. He beats Cornu by 19 seconds and Rogers by 21.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-8.jpg

He was a man on a mission today, is it enough for overall victory?

Of the other riders starting the day on 1'59, Durasek, De Maar and Hudecek were best - and in that order. And Durasek's time was enough to take him into 9th overall at the end of the day.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-9.jpg
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-10.jpg
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-11.jpg

13th overall Vladimir Karpets rode in for 8th on the stage, 1'27 down. It's the first time to be set for those riders battling for positions 3-downwards, many of whom start the day 1'09 off Zaini, 50 seconds up on Zabriskie.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-12.jpg

Linus Gerdemann takes 16th, but is somewhat slower at +2'02.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-13.jpg

Giovanni Visconti is predictably slower, 2'41 behind Zabriskie. It will be touch and go whether he can make the Top 10 overall.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-14.jpg

Rui Costa's time is 1'41 off Zabriskie. Faster than Gerdemann, but slower than Karpets.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-15.jpg

Konovalovas' team managed demanded at least a Top 5, but his time disappoints and is 1'55 down. Already 5th his best possible outcome.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-16.jpg

Both Jonathan Bellis and Zsolt Der slip down the order after their TT - but will remain in the Top 20 overall.

Vitaliy Popkov had a 12 second advantage on the predeceeding riders at the start of the day - and his time is exactly 12 seconds slower than Konovalovas. The Ukrainian will receive the higher GC position on countback.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-17.jpg

Next in was Lars Boom. And he needed a fast finish after a worrying start - trailing Zabriskie by 54 seconds at the first checkpoint.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-18.jpg

That gave him only 17 seconds of advantage left, and that just wasn't enough. Boom finishes 8th on the stage, 1'20 down. Zabriskie will be the new race leader by 9 seconds!

Hassen ben Nasser loses 3'14 down. By the end of the day he is just 6 seconds away from the Top 10 GC, but has to settle down in 14th place.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-19.jpg

The man 6 seconds above him is the Points classification leader, and the man who finished next: Maurice Schreurs.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-20.jpg

Jeremy Roy has a handy time trial, and with good time gained on Stage 2 came here with high hopes of holding on to a high place in GC. He finished 2'12 down, and this is just enough to stay ahead of Rui Costa overall. It will be 4th place for him, as Vladimir Karpets has done enough to make the podium.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz4-21.jpg

The final rider out on course was race leader Tommy Zaini. Time trials are not his forte, and he finished almost 4 minutes down on Zabriskie at 3'51. This threw him right in the tight battle for 10th - and he ends up in 12th. He misses out on the best young rider jersey to Schreurs by just 3 seconds.
