Hi guys! In the past weeks, there have been several questions about how to plan the fitness schedules of the riders. I've decided (both because of that as well as for personal use) to create a generic plan that can easily be applied for any world tour team.


What are the requirements?


The schedule is planned around the World Tour races, so it is only useful for World Tour teams or Pro Conti teams that'll get most wild cards. Also, it is shaped for 30 riders, although that can be modified.

How does the plan work?


The team is split in 7 parts. Every team has (more or less) two season peaks. The concept is that every race is done by two teams, but mostly, only one of them is in top shape while the other is preparing for their specific highlight. This way, it is possible to cover all the major events with a leader in top form.

What do the teams look like?


The only fix thing here are the sizes of the teams and the type of leaders. The riders that you add to the leader(s) are flexible, based on the race variants and the possibilities of your squad. The teams in detail:

GT Team 1


Peaks: Volta a Catalunya, Tour de Suisse, Tour de France

One of two five men teams. It usually consists of your main stage racer and four helpers.

GT Team 2


Peaks: Paris-Nice, Tour de Romandie, Giro d'Italia, Critérium du Dauphiné

Four riders, including your second stage racer (or your first, if the Giro has a higher priority). The Dauphiné may seem a bit unusual, but your leader will still have a shape of around 90, so it's fine.

GT Team 3


Peaks: Vuelta al Pais Vasco, Eneco Tour, Clasica San Sebastian, Vuelta a Espana

Four riders, your third stage race leader. It's important that you have a strong time trialist (ideally your Vuelta leader) for the Eneco Tour in this team.

Ardennes


Peaks: Tour Down Under, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milano-San Remo, Ardennes, Cyclassics to Lombardia

Speaks for itself: The main classics squad with your top puncheur. Depending on the respective variant, a good climber/time trialist for T-A is recommended. In addition, if you have, a punchy sprinter guy for MSR, the Cyclassics and Ouest France would be good.

Flandres


Peaks: Cobbled Classics, Tour de Pologne

Maybe the team with the least importance. It's for the cobbled classics mostly, but one team member should be a puncheur/climber guy for Poland. After Poland, the team is helping as a fill-up for the Ardennes team.

Sprinters 1


Peaks: Tour Down Under, Milano-San Remo, Tour de France

The peaks speak for themselves. Usually, the best sprinter is the leader here.

Sprinters 2


Peaks: Giro d'Italia, Vuelta a Espana and prep races

The sprinter for the other tours. Very important: This is the second team with five riders. Both sprinter teams usually consist of the lead sprinter, at least one lead out and at least one rouleur helper.


How good does this actually work?


I've run a test season with Sky (I added three random riders to make it 30):

Team 1: Froome -> Tour
Team 2: Wiggins -> Giro
Team 3: Henao -> Vuelta
Team 4: Uran -> Ardennes
Team 5: Hayman -> Flandres, Locke -> Poland
Team 6: Boasson Hagen -> Tour
Team 7: Swift -> Giro&Vuelta

So except for Tirreno and Down Under, no leader had a shape lower than 90. Especially, in the GTs, the shape is very good. But you can of course adjust the plan in details to vary the shapes.

What are the downsides?


The plan is relatively inflexible. If you don't have seven leaders fitting, it's hard to adjust the plan without dropping some of the WT events completely. The same applies for when you have too many strong riders. A really good mountain helper, for instance, who is in Team 1, will always be in the helping role.

Also, some of the prep races may seem a little strange and aren't perfectly suited for the respective riders. But as I said, the focus is completely on the WT races. Therefore, some of the major Conti races may not be on the plan and are hard to integrate, if you, for instance, want to play the Tour of California with Garmin or similar.

How do I apply the plan?


I've uploaded an excel file with the race calendar for the teams and the seven fitness schedules (Download). All you have to do is arrange your riders in the seven teams, put the schedules to the directory

Documents/Pro Cycling Manager 2012/Users/yourname/FitnessSchedules

and then you can load them ingame for the respective riders. And off you go!

Nice plan, to bad not all the teams have a huge collection og wiggins and froome's in there pocket xD

Cunego, your plans sound great, and I think I will copy 3 or 4 of them.
I think that the training plans must keep an eye on the rider specialization.
For example, I have Cancellara in my team. I have a training plan for the Flandres for him, but I put Cancellara also in Eneco Tour (2 TT + 1 COB stage), because is my best rider in TT, COB and even in FLA.

Nice plan, i use a similar approach, but usually i don't split my riders in so many groups.

I have created an excel file to help me to program the season plan, based on the original fitness planner from Eyolfur. It's pretty easy to use, if someone is interested and wants to have some help just ask.
