Tour de San Luis [2.1] - Stage 5

January 27, 2012

Le Toma - Merlo (Mirador del Sol) : 163.1 kms [Hills]

Team Strategy

"Look guys, we put in a lot of effort yesterday and today we are just going to ride in the pack, and chase down any break away. We need to try and protect Tejay Van Garderen as he hasn't fully recovered. Today is another uphill finish, not a big hill, but there will be plenty of attacks on it. I know you can do this today guys."

Race Report

Century 21's string of four stright stage wins comes to an end but they maintain the leaders jersey. There were a good few attacks and one succeded but Century 21 and Ag2r didn't allow them to get more than 4'20" lead. There were caught with only 8k to the line. Century 21 lost control of the peleton and it become a free for all with attacks comign left and right. Daniele Pietropolli (Lampre) would take the stage by 8" and Maguel Rubiano (Androni Giocattoli) would be award the same time, the main of the peleton would come in and Frank Schelck (Century 21) found it hard to maneuver through the traffic and settled in to position to take 9th on the day.

In the chaos, Pinot and Coppel could not pace Tejay Van Gardered and he would loose over a minute on the day coming in behind the leader 1'07" behind and loosing the leaders jersey. Which now belongs to Thomas De Gendt who holds an 8" lead over Wilco Kelderman (Rabobank Cycling Team).

Tour de San Luis [2.1] - Stage 6

January 28, 2012

Lujan - Quines : 201.7 kms [Flat]

Team Strategy

"All we have to do is protect Thoma De Gendt guys and we can win this race. Thibaut Pinot if your feeling up to it, you can go for the KOM points on El Amago and there is also El Embalse right there before the Cat 1 climb. There is a small little hill there at the end, but I don't think we will have an issue with it and today should setup for a mass sprint to the line."

Race Report

Pinot got in to the days break away but no of the other riders were taking a pull, and he took second place on the Cat 3. As the climb steeped up El Embalse Pinot could not shake the rest of the break and was joined by Jerome Coppel (Century 21) who would take 1-2 on the climbe, when the break away toped the summit they had a lead of 18'42"

The Peleton was not in any hurry getting up the climb and Centry 21 reached the summit as a team in the peleton with Marcel Kittel remaning in contact with the bunch. Century 21 began to reel in the break away as Pinot and Coppel just sat on in the break with none of the other riders wanting to drive the break.

Things were all back together with 34 kms to the line and it was setting up as a bunch sprint. Marcel was not feeling that great and just the earliness of the season, the lenght of the race and stage be he still wanted to give it a go for the sprint. Alfredo Balloni slipped from the peleton and kept the heat on as he built a lead over the peleton and would finish with a solo victory 50" ahead of the peleton. He was no threat to the over all classification more than 27 minutes back. Century 21 let him go, no other teams wanted to chase him down.

Ag2r and Caja Rural were driving the peleton to the line setting up there men for the sprint, Century 21 just didn't have the gets to keep the sprint going. Marcel Kittle was right on the wheel of Samuel Dumoulin (Cofidis) when the sprint was launched. Manuel Cardoso was the fastest in the bunch sprint and had a great lead out by Aitor Galdos and Francesco Lasca. Sebastien Hinault would take second with Samuel Dumoulin right on his wheel across the line. Marcel Kittel of Century 21 finished 6th on the day as he just could not get around Dumoulin and saw Elia Favilli just edge him at the line.

Tour de San Luis [2.1] - Stage 7

January 29, 2012

San Luis - San Luis : 167.3 kms [Flat]

Team Strategy

"Lets get everyone to the line safely, today should be a bunch sprint at the line and we'd like to get Marcel a victory to cap off a great week of racing by everyone here on this bus. Frank Schleck I know your pissed off because of stage one when you were asked to protect Marcel from the wind. You have to realize we are all here to win races and stages and your time will come. If you want to attack or get in a break away, you are a free rider today. Thomas De Gendt I want you and the rest of the team to stay near the front."

Race Report

Seemed like the peleton was tired after a week of racing, and no one took the opportunity to attack until the first climb came and Frank Schleck (Century 21) attacked right at the base of the climb and was followed by Mathieu Perget (Ag2r) and Arnaud Labbe (Cofidis). Frank would take the mountain points with Perget getting second and Labbe taking third on the only KOM of the day.

Frank Schleck was doing all the work in the breakaway and just could not extend the advantage, they would reach the next climb and see their advantage at only 59" over the peleton. Omega was driving the peleton and with less than 35 kms to the line, everyone would be back together. Frank bonked and went right out the back of the peleton and would finish the day 6'10" off the pace.

Century 21 got organized with 14 k to the line and would drive the peleton to the line and a perfect lead out for Marcel Kittle who would win this stage handily over Manuel Cardoso (Caja Rural) and Daniele Pietropolli (Lampre). It was Kittle's third victory of the race, and ensured Century 21 the team classification.

Was a monster ride, so thought he'd get caught by the peleton, but as you can see, Pinot had just enough left in the tank to get up that final climb just seconds before Thomas De Gendt got there as he was not going to allow anyone else in the peleton to finish the day ahead of him or his team mate.

This was a finish I was conflicted on, do I sent in the cavalry when it looks like the break will get caught, or do I just hope that the other teams can't catch him (but he was so far down on GC). So I did just a little bit of everything, I did a little pace settings, I answered the attacks that were coming from just about all the contenders, and in the end De Gendt was the rider whom has the best finishing sprint to get up that hill and to the line, just seconds behind his team mate who got the solo win!!

All in all, it was a great day for Century 21.

Grand Prix la Marseillaise

January 24, 2012

Fraga - Juana Koslay : 146.0 kms

Team Strategy

"Team we need to get Henao and Rolland to the line. Taylor Phinney if you legs are feeling good, you can get in a break and see if you can't drive it."

Race Report

Taylor Phinney was one of eleven that got in to the break today, but the peleton lead by Movistar and Ag2r didn't allow them to get more than 3 minutes ahead of the peleton. Twenty one kilometers from the line, the break was caught. Lastras (Movistar) tried an attack with 14k to the line but the peleton led by Century 21 was able to bring him back. About 2k from the line the bunch started their sprint, with Duque getting an early jump, but Ag2r still had their train going and launched Mondory (Ag2r) at 400m. Lightart (Vacansoleil) was right there with him but fading at this point. Perez (Euskaltel) tried to come up on the outside but just didn't seem to have enough to get around and Delage (FDJ) was right on Mondory (Ag2r) wheel. Henao (Century 21) was cut off by Herrada (Movistar) and just settled in on the sprint, Taylor Phinney and Rolland were not far behind, but didn't factor in the sprint at all.

Yes hope he did Ian.

Also maybe you should try doing a few screenshots for your story.
Push ctrl + U to get rid of all the stuff around the screen then push ctrl + T to take the shot. It is in your documents, PCM 12, Users, screenshots. Then you just upload them using something like tinypic.

Not sure if Raiko is doing one or not.
