TOUR DOWN UNDER

The team:

Morabito - Leader
Gerhardsson - Sprinter
Donneaux - Free
Vinals - Free
Durbridge - Team Mate
Mobwete - Team Mate
Smet - Team Mate

Objective:

Top-10 in the overall GC.

Stage 1:

A fairly flat stage. With Cavendish, Farrar, Kittel, Greipel and Demare lining up. Gerhardsson will have to be smart to get a podium place. We will try sending out Vinals or Donneaux to get points for the mountain jersey.

We end up getting Donneaux in the breakaway. He wins the stages only mountain sprint, and will ride in the KoM jersey tomorrow.

Suddenly Saxo Bank - Auchan goes in front of the peloton. Riding for Kittel the breakaways deficit is slowly crumbling.

Sky helps the danish team. They have a frightening train for this race. Eisel-Favilli-Haussler-Goss-Cavendish. 4 rider with above 77 sprinting.

With 13 kilometers to go. The peloton catches up with the peloton. It's going to be a mass sprint finish. Gerhardsson has good legs, and takes the wheel of Cavendish.

Farrar wins the stage in front of Kittel. Gerhardsson end up on a brilliant 3rd place.

Stage 2:

A hilly stage, but only one categorized mountain. We will send out Donneaux to gain the mountain points. If the race is not to hard we will try to get Gerhardsson in with the best. If not, Morabito and Vinals will get their chance.

Donneaux goes into todays break and picks up the mountain points. With 40 km to go he decides to set off alone as he does not want to face a sprint against Breschel.

They are catched up the last climb and a bunch of riders start attacking.

At the end it a uphill sprint. Gerhardsson is in the mix and end up 7th.

Kiserlovski of Saxo Bank wins the stage in front of his teammate Cancellara.

Stage 3:

Another flat stage. We will try to get Gerhardsson in a position to get another podium position.

After 50 km todays break have been formed. 5 riders containing Sieberg and Koldo Fernandez. Mobwete is showing Swiss Lifes colours.

They're catched with 8 km to go. Gerhardsson takes the wheel of Cavendish, but switches as Farrar comes booming past.

Gerhardsson passes Farrar and is clearly in the lead, but in the last 300 meter Goss is closing down and it comes down to the last effort.

Gerhardsson throws his bike to the best of his efforts, but it doesn't matter. Goss has timed it perfectly and wins stage 3.

With the second place. Gerhardsson moves into 2nd overall.

Stage 4:

Although categorized as a flat stage. Stage 4 features a steep climb 25 km from the finish line. As Gerhardsson is on of the best at climbing among the sprinter, we will put a high pace and hope some of the others will be thrown off the peloton.

Vinals goes into the breakaway which quickly gets a big margin.

With 50 kilometers to go the breakaway has gotten 6'33"

At the climb, Vinals sets in a devastating attack. With 18 kilometers to go his 1'20" in front of Tleubayev. 4'38 in front of the peloton.

With 5 kilometers to go, only accidents can prevent Vinals from getting Swiss Life - Tissot their first win of the season.

The young spaniard wins the stage. And now he's dreaming of the leaders jersey. He's currently 4'55" behind.

The peloton comes in at around 4 minutes later.

Gerhardsson end up 12th on the stage.

Stage 5:

It's time to go up old Willunga hill. This is where it's all settled.

Smet goes into the morning break. Along with Mangel, Veelers and 2 others. He's the strongest climber there.

They quickly gets caucgt and the peloton setss a very high tempo up till willunga hill.

At the end of the day. valverde is clearly the strongest, and wins by 24th seconds.

Gerhardsson end up in the following group and is still number 5 in the race.

Stage 6:

The goal is to keep Gerhardsson in the top-5 on this final stage of the race.

A part of the teams sneaky plan was to get Vinals into the breakaway. Not to win the race, but to gain bonus points for the sprinters jersey. And after 30 kilometers of attacking he succeeded in the plan.

Vinals gets enough points to secure the mountain jersey and if Farrar does not win, he gets the sprinters as well.

The attackers get wheeled in and the mass sprint is won by.... Farrar.

Gerhardsson gets boxed in and end up 8th.

Conclusion:

We wanted a top-10 finish in the overall and Gerhardsson delivered. A very nice 5th in the GC Besides that a stage win and the mountain jersey for Vinals. An incredible start to the World Tour!

Ian Butler
Nice start in the World Tour, excellent Smile

The team has had a nice steady start to the season Wink

And Shischenko looks another great signing for the team Wink

PARIS - NICE

The team:

Keldermann - Leader
Gerhardsson - Sprinter
Podevin - Free
Vinals - Free
Wyss - Team mate
Marner - Team Mate
Quevy - Team mate
Schär - Team mate

Objective:

Top-10 in the GC

Stage 1:

Kelderman comes in 7th in the prologue. Hagen wins it

Stage 2:

A flat stage. Wyss gets into the breakaway.

Samoilau wins the only mountain sprint and will wear the mountain jersey tomorrow.

The breakaway gets wheeled in and we're looking at a slighty uphill mass sprint.

Gerhardsson is positioned well as Pineau blasts by. Gerhardsson takes his wheel and soon rides past him for the stage win!

Stage 3:

Todays stage end with a hill. Gilbert and Boasson Hagen are favourites. But Gerhardsson is in incredible form.

Schär gets into the breakaway. Unfortunately he's not strong enough to take the mountain jersey.

In the end. Gerhardsson gets caught while sitting too far back in the peloton.

Boasson Hagen wins it, in front of Gilbert

Stage 4:

Another fairly flat stage. However there's a steep category 2 climb shortly before goal. We'll try sending off Podevin on that one. Gerhardsson is of course ready for the sprint :-)

4 riders form the breakaway. We have no-one in it.

As the mountain nears. Podevin tells us he's got great legs.

We said to Podevin to wait till 5 km to the top to attack. but he doesn't care. He must really have good legs. As soon as the peloton hits the mountain. He attacks. 8,5 km to the top. 3'24" behind the 5 riders in front.

Podevin reaches the breakaway 1 km from the top, but quickly goes off alone. If he wants the win he has to get rid of them.

But it doesn't seem like enough. the pack have reached the other escapees, and are chasing down podevin as well.

With 5 km to go he's 22 seconds in front. Luckily enough it's pure downhill, and podevin is a naturally gifted downhiller.

Unfortunately the peloton catches him with 1 km to go. It's yet another mass sprint. Gerhardsson has taken the wheel of Modolo.

That was a mistake Apollonio wins the stage and Gerhardsson comes second.

Stage 5:

A hilly stage finish. Hopefully Gerhardsson can keep up.

After 40 km of trying to get away. 7 riders succeed. One of them is Vinals.

The break is not gonna work till the end. And unfortunately both Keldermann and Podevin has got bad legs.

And just as it seems like the gap might be big enough after all. The favourites attack.

In the end Gilbert wins in front of Hagen.

Overall Kelderman has drifted down to 20th.

Stage 6:

A route of many small climbs. We'll try going for a stage victory here.

Vinals joins the breakaway and will try to gain points for the mountain jersey. However the current KoM is in the breakaway as well.

Vinals does all he can but gets caught on the last climb.

It's going to be a mass sprint, but suddenly Gilbert switches lanes and boxes Gerhardsson in. Sad... He was clearly the quickest today.

Boasson Hagen won again.

Stage 7:

Another hilly day. We'll try to control the peloton and get Gerhardsson over the top.

16 riders are in todays breakaway. Soon they split up with 4 in the front and 12 behind. Podevin is in the front group.

At the only category 1 climb Podevin puts on the pressure and the 13 others drops behind.

But on the final climb the favourites attack and catches up with Podefvin on the downhill.

On the final stretch he cannot follow them.

Peter Velits wins the stage.

Stage 8:

The final stage of the race. Some very steep climbs.

In the end. Gilbert won yet another stage.

Conclusion:

A stage win was great, however we would have liked a rider in the top-10. Gerhardsson end 16th
