Ryan Eastman - Bontrager 2013 February
Alakagom
Brilliant.

The whole team did amazing. 2nd in GC to Wiggins is amazing for JLD. Shame about the KoM but the team did their best and it shows Smile

Ryan did well enough in supporting the team as well Smile

Thanks all.
@Pellizotti: I was pretty surprised that Parker was able to stay with Nibali after all the work. Even more that he then won the sprint for 5th easily. It`s so much easier with 99 fitness. Wink
@johannes-w: True. Having 3 riders so close to him but no one being able to win the jersey... But on the other side I never expected to be that good in the GC.
@Alakagom: Exactly. Nothing more could have been expected by Ryan here. He surely is a good domestique but a very weak mountain climber.

Amgen Tour of California

Stage 8 - Beverly Hills - Los Angeles (74,3km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Amgen_8_1-743.jpg

A pretty short city circuit in Los Angeles today passing some rich people`s mansions on a beautiful course. There is a good reason why it`s also called City of Angels.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Amgen_8_2.jpg

Joe really impressed everyone yesterday and probably made his breakthrough yesterday in the last two days. Wouldn`t be surprised if he joins a WT team soon. Next year he is still on contract but you never now I guess.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Amgen_8_4.jpg

Mannion once again is our rider in the breakaway. He really had a good ride yesterday as well being a big help for Joe.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Amgen_8_6.jpg

But on a course like this the sprinter teams of course wants the win. Garmin for Haussler, Rabobank for Matthews and Astana most probably for Gavazzi doing the pace.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Amgen_8_8.jpg

We almost finished but with 11km to go the worst thing happened that a cyclist can imagine when having the final stage of a stage race.
Huge crash by lots of riders, luckily none of ours as we rode quite far in front.
But some others have been less concentrated. Vincenzo Nibali and Rory Sutherland must be named first of course as they were well placed in the overall as 6th and 12th.
At least no one is looking seriously injured.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Amgen_8_11.jpg

Shit. Too early. And it`s Dale Parker on the ground but strangely after the next corner. No idea why he crashed there. Probably due to a short moment of less concentration or looking back.
This will surely cost him the 7th overall, which is a bad situation for him as he will leave California with nothing. No GC and no KoM after a great performance.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Amgen_8_13.jpg

The sprint actually became to a side issue now. But still something you have to mention of course. Haussler with another win ahead of Matthews and Gavazzi. So the 3 working teams on the podium today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Amgen_8_14.jpg

Congrats to Wiggins for the overall win and Joe for his brilliant 2nd and 2 stage wins. Incredible result for us. I just finish behind these two and never hovered over from him today protecting him until the finish line.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Amgen_8_16.jpg

Unlucky Parker...
He loses 2'28 today falling from 7th to 17th.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Amgen_8_17.jpg

Nibali and Sutherland even finished almost 5min later. Both of them felt out of the top20, which moved Boswell on the 19th overall.

For me this was a very good race. I was able to show myself in the breakaway and even had a day in the KoM jersey. Unfortunately no breakaway was allowed to succeed. On the other hand we collected two stage wins as team.

Unfortunately we can`t celebrate too long today as some of us directly go to Florida after todays stage where they will ride a small Criterium tomorrow.
I will have a short break and will be back racing in Austria. See you there.

And as said. The next races will be on Extreme.

What a result for Dombrowski!
Ryan did excellent work for the team here, hopefully they'll do return the favor one day Smile

I think this tour was better than we would have expected. Great job.
Winners never quit, quitters never win.

Thanks. Indeed better than expected as I was not even sure to top10 here. Wink

A bit surprising result here without any Italian in the top5. Strongest after 21 stages was Igor Antón bringing Euskaltel some important points in the fight for survival.
Mollema maybe the biggest surprise here. Third on the podium Rujano.
Wout Poels had the lead for quite some time in the first 2 weeks but struggled in the last week and felt back to 5th.

P:

2Tyler FarrarGarmin-Sharp
3Theo BosRabobank Cycling Team

Petacchi won almost every sprint and was back to his old form. Also Farrar showed some great sprints after several months of suffering.

1Ruggero MarzoliAcqua & Sapone
2Gianpaolo CarusoKatusha Team
3Danilo Di LucaAcqua & Sapone
4Alexandre VinokourovAstana Pro Team
5Stefano PirazziColnago-CSF Bardiani

A big fight also for the KoM jersey. Strange not to see a GC guy in the top5 here. Marzoli collected enough points and moved himself also in the top15 overall.

U25:
1Wout PoelsVacansoleil-DCM
2Andrew TalanskyGarmin-Sharp
3Romain SicardEuskaltel - Euskadi
4Stefano AgostiniLiquigas-Cannondale
5Gianluca BrambillaColnago-CSF Bardiani

Poels wins the Youth ranking although the gap between him and Talansky was reduced stage for stage in the end. Great to see maybe the biggest American stage race talent being high there in the Giro. Looking forward to his developing.

I won`t have much time this weekend. So not sure if there is another report before Sunday/Monday.

sutty68
Its nice seeing Ryan do a great supporting role for Dombrowski Wink

Pellizotti2
Rather surprising result in the Giro, but I guess it's because of PPBD's stat system. Certainly wouldn't expect riders like Mazzanti and Marzoli in the Top 15 overall otherwise. Wink

Anyway, good luck for the upcoming races. Smile

@Sutty: He still is not much more than a helper yet and should do the supporting part in 2/3 of his races. There he is a very good support in .2 races.
@Pellizotti: Thanks. The PPDB Stats might be a factor. But I don`t know their stats right now. Marzoli surely attacked often as he is KoM winner and probably was in a successful break at least 1-2 times. Same I guess with Mazzanti plus the simulation fact. Always weird results then. Pfft

Oberösterreich-Rundfahrt

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/OR_logo.jpg

The race was first held in 2001. Since 2010 it`s part of the UCI Europe Tour as 2.2 stage race and is one of the most popular cycling events in Austria.
Some well known names have won the race before becoming that popular like Philippe Gilbert or Thomas Dekker.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/OR_Profil.jpg

The race contains 3 stages, 2 of them very hilly. The first is clearly the hardest and there we have to decide the leadership as none of us is really in a great form for this race as we more or less use it as preparation for more important races like Columbia or the late Summer American races.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/OR_Team.jpg

As we have a parallel race in France, we are only 5 riders here but with Dombrowski and Parker we have two riders with a possible top10 chance. So one of them will lead us. For me it`s only about helping and trying to get into one break, most likely on the final stage.
Same counts for Mannion, while Avis is in the best form and should be a solid support as well.

The startlist doesn`t look too hard. So even without the best form this should be possible here. In especially the Columbian and Russian teams have sent strong squads here. But also the German and American teams are not weak.

Hope the team has a Great race in Austria Wink

roturn
Thanks. It`s actually in Austria. France is the parallel race without Eastman, where I won`t have any chance as it`s just for preparation and without a sprinter on a course for fast sprinters with some hill skills and opponents like Tiernan-Locke, Feillu, Jungels... I don`t stand a chance there.

Oberösterreich-Rundfahrt

Linz - Aigen im Mühlkreis (147,2km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/OR_1_2.jpg

We just had a short race break and start with a very tough stage. Probably the hardest in these three days in Austria.
For me the climbs might be a bit too long, so I have no real goals for today. I will try to support Joe and Dale as long as possible and then fall back into a later group where I can save energy for a possible breakaway on the next stages.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/OR_1_7.jpg

A group of 4 was allowed to create a gap to form the break of the day. The German teams are really motivated here and have 3 riders in there.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/OR_1_9.jpg

I had a calm day so far and without anything spectacular we reached the final circuit. So 3 hard climbs to come. Now we must be concentrated.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/OR_1_13.jpg

The group was already caught starting the 2nd climb. The peloton is still pretty big with more than 80 riders and all 5 of us in there.
But I already feel how this last climb really pushed me to my limits. And the next two won`t be ridden slower.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/OR_1_18.jpg

During the climb I realized I wouldn`t be able to stay with the best and tried everything to help Joe and Dale.
Many cuts now in the peloton due to the Columbian`s and Russian`s work. So a group of 13 in front with a similar sized group just behind including Dale luckily and he should make it to the first group on the descent.
A group of 15 including me and unfortunately also Joe another 25s behind.
It will be very hard now for Joe to join the front group again.
Our main mistake was to stay with Gutierrez Catalunya, but obviously he was not in form as well. Should have followed the Russians and Columbians I guess.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/OR_1_20.jpg

In especially as the first groups really increased their speed now. Many attacks. Here by English and Retschke took care that the pace was very high. At least Dale made the jump to the first group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/OR_1_22.jpg

The Columbians are pretty crazy. Almost all of them are far above 30 and now Buenahora with the next attack on top of the last climb. This guy is even 45!!! and still belongs to one of the best South American climbers, at least on CT level.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/OR_1_24.jpg

But the first group including 18 riders came together before the final sprint. Dale is also suffering already being in the last third.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/OR_1_26.jpg

It`s Chernetski completing a long day work by his Itera Katusha team. The Russian is having a nice season so far and recommends for higher tasks I guess. Parker as 11th within a 15 rider group is pretty decent looking at the race break before.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/OR_1_28.jpg

Together with Joe and Gavin I finished 9min behind them. Good time for a breakaway. As Avis was very strong today finishing ahead of us, I was last of our team today. Well, nothing wrong with that. Will have better days again for sure. Wink

Eastman to go on a breakway in the next days?

roturn
Do you read the reports or just check the results?
Joining a breakaway was Eastman`s goal for this race and I also wrote this in this stage report that he will try to join the breakway in one of the 2 following stages. Wink

sutty68
A day of suffering for most of the team today Frown

But Dale Parker did well managing to finish in that group of 15 Wink

loosing time has also a positive side as you already said Pfft
Winners never quit, quitters never win.

It's difficult not to be happy when you're surrounded by Belgians. - Mark Cavendish

A good day for Parker, not so great for Dombrowski. Now, hopefuly Eastman can get into a successful breakaway in the next two days. Smile

BTW, I had no idea that this race existed. Shock

Quiet first stage, but I'm looking forward to see Ryan in a break soonWink
It's very nice to see some different races - I never played the Oberösterreich-Rundfahrt myself Smile

@Sutty: Jep. That was the most important to have one in this group there today.
@PCM rulezz/Ian: Agree. Wasn`t on purpose although I expected it on this stage. Now it will help me.
@FreitasPCM: Dombrowski was unlucky. He was next to Gutierrez, whose form must be bad... Parker was just 2m ahead of him and just in between the peloton splitted.
The race is pretty cool. I think Daniano made it.
@Johannes: Me neither. I just checked which .2 races would be good as Columbia preparation and there weren`t that many plus it has some nice profiles.

Next stage should be up tomorrow I guess.
