Welcome to the tale about two brothers, Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm. The story of this pair is about to unfold as the seasons go on.
Before the story continues I should provide information on the mechanics running everything.
DB: PCM.Daily's 2012 DB V2 Public Beta (with my changes to STA_type_rider)
Added: Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm to Team Saxo Bank.
Evolution: .2
Potentials Randomized
My team is "Observer" (will have Black and White striped kit in 3d race) and will not really be doing anything. I'm only observing and telling the story of the Grimms.

Our fable brothers were both born in Hanau, Germany. Jakob is just over a year older than the bigger Wilhelm. While the two share a commonality in their love of cycling their sibling rivalry sent them down two different roads. As young boys their competitive fire often encouraged them to race each other while they would be out for a ride and as expected, Jakob, the older of the two was better and would frequently let Wilhelm know who was faster.
This trend would continue until the boys were in their early teens before Wilhelm would finally beat his older brother in a pure sprint. Obviously Wilhelm then harassed Jakob mercilessly about being faster, revenge for the last 10 years of being second best. A new trend had started, with Wilhelm being the stronger of the two brothers and Jakob had to find a new way to win.
As the two grew into their later teens their ability to travel farther away from home for rides increased, and one eventful trip took the boys to the foothills of the Alps. It was on this trip that Jakob would once again prove superior to his younger brother and to this day any race between the two going uphill belonged to Jakob, and anything on the flat was won by Wilhelm.
The sibling races of the two brothers did not go unnoticed either, as they were brought into organized competitive cycling both excelling still seemingly racing each other more than the rest of the field they frequently left behind. The two would both be regarded to have great potential in cycling and would quickly earn contracts with Team Saxo Bank.

As the two brothers start their first season as professional riders they quickly notice a change in their "practice" for the first time it is actually practice instead of fun. Not to say they don't enjoy going out for rides any more, but there is a different focus about what they are doing, everything is more serious. For the first time the brothers were perhaps nervous when they rode with their team, riders with fame and status, Alberto Contador, arguably the best stage rider in the world. The best thing for the two was they aren't the only brothers on the team, and they quickly became friends with the Haedo brothers from Argentina. Though listening to two pairs of brothers whose only common language is broken English can be very difficult. This all compounds the fact that the two are still anxiously waiting to find out when their first race of the season will be.

This will be to the side of the P-MG, something to work on when I'm waiting in the P-MG. Now that the draft is done, things won't move every single day.

Chapter 1 : Neo-Pros - Continued
Etoile de Bessèges
Wilhelm Grimm
It didn't take long for a very harsh reality to set in on the brothers, as professionals they would not always race together, in fact racing together would likely be a rarity. The first ride in the professional peloton for either brother will be taken by Wilhelm at Etoile de Bessèges.
Wilhelm is not exactly sure what to expect, he has seen the profile of the course, the team has done some road recon as well and taken a good look at the finishes for sprints. This 5 day race features 3 relatively flat days, and two days of hills. The team Saxo Bank is sending though is not spectacular. The sprinting is expected to be done by the younger Haedo; Lucas. And perhaps two riders to try at the GC in Troels Vinther and Anders Lund, the former also in the young rider classification.
Likely Wilhelm will be asked to just be a domestique but perhaps at the end of the race he will be allowed to give a kick into the sprint.
Feb 1-5, | Etoile de Bessèges | 101st, +18'09" | Feb 1, | Beaucaire - Bellegarde (Flat 172.1) | 131st, +0" | Feb 2, | Nîmes - Saint Anmboix (Hills 180.6) | 126th, +11'26" | Feb 3, | St. Victor - Laudun (Hills 171.1) | 69th, +6'14" | Feb 4, | Alès - Alès (Flat 166.4) | 66th, 0" | Feb 5, | Gagnières - Bessèges (Flat 110.3) | 82nd, +0" |
As expected Wilhelm just played the role of teammate in a relatively unsuccessful tour for Team Saxo Bank. Troels Ronning Vinther ended up in 6th overall, and 2nd in the Young Rider classification. The team was not involved in either mountain points or sprint points and came in 7th as a team overall.
While no one expects Wilhelm to be an instant star, with the team looking like this it certainly would be better if he became good quickly.

I'm still thinking about how much time I want to spend on each race. Not sure if I want to do it like my Kyle Lewis story and race through seasons, or go a bit slower.

Chapter 1 : Neo-Pros - Continued
Vuelta a AndalucÃa
Wilhelm Grimm
With his first pro race now behind him, Wilhelm looks to start improving over the rest of the season. A trip to southern Spain for the Vuelta a AndalucÃa is the next race for the younger.
Once again Wilhelm heads to a 5 day tour with the team. The team is stronger for this race with Chris Anker Sørensen and Daniel Navarro leading them. Sprinting will likely be done by Jonas Aaen Jørgensen. The race features a prologue followed by a pair of flat and a pair of hilly days.
Again like most races this season Wilhelm is not going to be expected to do too much. His job will primarily be the water boy and help out as a domestique as much as possible.
Feb 19-23, | Vuelta a AndalucÃa | 93rd, +18'44" | Feb 19, | San Fernando (Flat 6.1) | 59th, +23" | Feb 20, | Zahara de los Autnes - Benalmádena (Flat 194.5) | 25th, +0" | Feb 21, | Malaga - Lucena (Hills 130.3) | 95th, +14'39" | Feb 22, | Montemayor - Las Gabias (Flat 155.0) | 37th, +0" | Feb 23, | Jaén - La Guardia de Jaén (Hills 130.7) | 76th, +4'11" |
Wilhelm did his job in the race, however the team again had a very poor showing. Spaniard Daniel Navarro finished best on the team in 31st place, over 5' off the leaders. The team is going to need to figure out how to get past the ban left on Contador and find someone to step up and start winning races. Or at this point I'd imagine they would settle for a stage win, a podium, maybe even a top 10 to just get things going.

Wilhelm is a nice domestique right now, but I'm looking forward to see Jakob, as I believe he'll be more competitive. |
