Just a short middle stage following yesterday tough mountain stage, a 75km circular route starting and finishing in Porto Vecchio. It is a fairly lumpy one with one green jersey sprint and one King of the Mountains prime.
Three sprinters are said to stand out namely
Allan Davis
Juan José Haedo
and
Bruno Santos
though
Samuel Dumoulin
Aleksei Markov
Ismaël Kip
and
Francesco Chicchi
are not without chances.
No threats for the King of the Mountains are in the days break:
Travis Meyer
Tomohiro Hayakawa
Junpei Murakami
Jack Bobridge
Francesco Tizza
Andrew Talansky
Aurélien Passeron
make up the seven men of the day. Rizza at 5.30 the best placed on GC.
The Pirelli rider takes the King of the Mountains ahead of Marakami and Passeron, meanwhile Meiji Fuji always enjoying a sprint prime or two take the sprint through Hayakawa ahead of Tizza and Passeron.
No chance of this break succeeding with Saab Scania, Hollister and CalGiant on the case.
They make the catch with about 18km to go, which is a little too early to control until the finish. We get a confused pack looking around for a team to control, Aker Solutions decide the best thing to do is to keep the crash happy Alarcon to the front.
They are proved correct and wisely avoid a mass crash toward the back of the pack that halts just over 50 riders.
The King of the Mountains jersey of
Valerio Agnoli
goes down with plenty of Vespa's though not Duarte.
Gustav Larsson
was back here for some reason away from his teammates as was sprinter
Nikolai Trusov
as well as top 10 GC candidate
Igor Antón
The confusion looks the perfect time to launch a classics style assault, who better than
Johan Vansummeren
to take advantage.
Still teams are looking around for someone to control it, experienced CTour sprinter
Juan José Haedo
decides to send his henchmen to the front including young
Ryan Eastman
However this doesn't last long before Haedo decides to position himself for a sprint and his brother
Lucas Sebastian Haedo
team decide to try and keep the pace at least reasonable with Vansummeren still some 35 seconds up the road as
Jonathan Castroviejo
and
Jure Zrimsek
lead into the last 3.5km.
Behind them is in fact the wrong Haedo really in
Juan José Haedo
then its
Allan Davis
Francesco Chicchi
Eloy Teruel
Robert Förster
and nearby is
Bruno Santos
and
Lucas Sebastian Haedo
The Aker men though are not set up to lead out a sprint least of all for Lucas Sebastions older brother the pace is not great so more attacks ensue with
Adrian Laidler
going with
Lucas Schädlich
As the kilometres tick down to just 1.5km to go the sprinters are leaving it awfully late, could this be a sneak win for Vansummeren, Liedler or Schladlich?
All three are good time triallists particularly the young VolksWagen rider this move could win him the green points jersey. In fact Schladlich can even see a stage win in the offering here as he leaves Laidler and strikes for Vansummeren.
Meanwhile somehow Aker Solutions' slow lead somehow works to their favour as the correct Haedo comes to the front to contend the bunch sprint with Forster, Tereul, Santos and
Aleksei Markov
Schladlich is going to take a high amount of points for the green jersey but not the stage win today as Vansummeren gives Bpost a nice win.
Laidler takes third place with LS Haedo just edging his fast finishing brother for 4th.
Anton and his CSC teammates (who dropped back to help him) lose a lot of time today, he and Larsson being the biggest GC casualties of the late crash.
