Giro della Calabria Report Stage 1

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/GirodellaCalabriaS1Profile.jpg

EA-Sony Ericsson Riders
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/GirodellaCalabriaRiders.jpg

First stage for the our newly formed team proved to be a tough one. Being a flat profile we were hoping to keep our riders in the peleton and wait for the bunch sprint for Talansky, but our plans were spoiled by the wind conditions. It broke the peleton in half almost ever 30-45 Km. And well it caused many problems throughout day.

The Start
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/GirodellaCalabriaStart.jpg

Along the way some great views,
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Senrary.jpg

But then the wind got the best of my sprinter for the day Talansky, but also young rider Anziani. Leaving them over 9min back!
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/GirodellaCalabriaS1FallBack.jpg

Now really mad at my manager style of not watching Talansky close enough, I had to make the best of what was turning into a horrible first race. So I turned to fighter Jean-Christophe Peraud who managed to stay in the peleton the whole day and was feeling great. And with 8km to go the breakaway was caught and another strong gust of wind caught the peleton off guard, leaving a small range to attack and he did. The sprint trains now stunned had to put on the after burners if they still wanted their win because Peraud was getting away.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/GirodellaCalabriaS13kmtogo.jpg

And with his fighter mentality he was still leading the sprint teams that were very close behind with 1km to go.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/GirodellaCalabriaS11kmtogo.jpg

But the wind couldn't help Peraud anymore, and not known for his sprint ability he didn't stand a chance and just had to try and hold off the surge riders for a top 10 placement, after a horrible day for the team.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/GirodellaCalabriaS1Finish.jpg
And he did just that and keep a nice 6th Place.

Giro della Calabria Race Report Stage 2

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Profile.jpg
After a dissapointing stage 1, we hoped for some better results today. Being mostly flat with rolling hills at the end, our goal for today was to get Anziani in the breakaway because he is already 11 minutes back and try to keep everyone together for a bunch sprint at the finish line.

The stage started off slow for the first 20km with no one attacking the slow pace so I had to make the first move, and took my chance with young rider Anziani. And it caused confusion in the peleton as other teams sent off their riders as well, leaving what looked to be a group of 7 riders.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/EarlyBreak.jpg
And the peleton seemed content with that group of breakaway riders as we worked together for the next 30 km and gained a 3 minute lead. But some teams still didn't like the combination and two riders in the peleton were lauched and hopes of catching up with the group that now had a good 4'30 lead. Back in the breakaway Anziani was having problems keeping the tempo and a few times had to sit in the back regaining energy from the fatigue from yesturday's stage. And while the other 6 riders didn't like that all. So after 20km of this cat and mouse game they had enough and started attacking one another.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/EarlyBreakP3.jpg
Leaving Anziani alone on the road almost 2 mins beheid the group, but shortly after was picked up by the 2nd breakaway group with the two late attackers, 4 mins behind E1 and 3 mins ahead of the peleton.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/EarlyBreakP2.jpg
But he was again dropped by that group and found his way back in the peleton and then just couldn't handle the fatigue and dropped back into the team car with us, and withdrawal from the race.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/BreakCaught.jpg
Back in the peleton the chase was on the 1st breakaway had a 7 minute gap with 110km to go. So young riders Harrison Neil and Anthony Skene stepped into the chase. And with 30 km to go they only had a 1'30 gap. And the second breakaway group was already caught.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/2ndBreakCaught.jpg
And by 25km at the base of the final hill they were caught, slowing down the peleton for a few km to catch their breath, but our Irish climber Delgnan saw the chance to make something happen, and let off a raging attacking without any signal to the team car, causing other climbers to react that were stronger than Delgnan and soon their was a breakaway of 4 about to go over top of the hill with a min gap with 12km to go.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/TheClimb.jpg
Over the top the group of 4 split leaving Delgnan in a fight of possibly third. With the other two riders gaining a minute on them. And under the 10km banner sprint trains were forming, and Peraud with Talansky got hooked up as they hit the flat heading for the finish line.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/10kmtogo.jpg
But the two riders in front couldn't be caught and the fight was for 3rd between Delgnan and the sprint trains coming on fast.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/TheFinish.jpg
They were just fast passing Delgnan under the 1km banner and Talansky came flying by in the sprint and coming in with a nice 10th place after the disaster that happened yesturday, and Delgnan held off for a 14th Place finish.

Interview - Philip Delgnan
Q: What made you want to attack on that final hill?
A: Well to me it just seemed like everyone gave up after they caught the breakaway and I know I'm a good climber and their was chance and I toke it, and have no regrets about it.

Giro della Carabria Stage 3 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Profile-1.jpg

Heading into stage 3 Philip Deignan is considered a favorite and we plan to ride in the peleton all day until we hit the 3 hills at the end and hopefully Deignan can muster together another strong attack and compete for our first win.

Early on the breakaway was made and at the highest had a gap of 4 minutes. The 14 riders up front didn't work well together and had problems staying together throughout the whole stage.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/MainBreakawayGroup.jpg

And with 45km to go there was only 5 riders with a gap of a minute. And they still haven't learn they meaning of teamwork.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/BreakawayDownto5.jpg

They were caught at the base of the first hill, with the peleton still going at a strong clip, no one got a chance to attack over top the first hill.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Hill.jpg

Desended down to the base of the second hill were the peleton slowed down and Deignan toke his shot and was followed by three other riders.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/DeignanCracks.jpg

At the top of the second hill Deignan was leading the group of 4 now 45 seconds ahead of the peleton, down to the base of the final hill.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Mountain4.jpg

Now at the base of the final hill with the finish line in view, attacks from other favorites still in the peleton occured and Geignan start to question how early he attacked because the riders attacking from the peloton were coming strong and went by him with 2km to go. And all Geignan could do was try and hold on again like he did in the last stage.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Giro%20della%20Calabria/Chase.jpg

At the top of the hill at the finish line Geignan managered to keep a 10th Place finish while everyone around him seemed much faster. He also gained time over the main group of riders that stayed in the peleton.

Interview - Philip Deignan

Q: Was attacking early your call or the team managers call?
A: I told the manager before the race that if we were all together on the second hill and I felt good that I was going to try for it then, but looking back on it I should have waited until that third hill, because I'm the one who start that small break, and if I would have waited I think I could have gotten a better finish.
