Barry Bonds isn't remotely close to the biggest star in baseball.
Comparing Bonds to someone like Babe Ruth or Stan Musial is like comparing Alexi Vinokurov to Merckx or Hinault.
And I agree, I was just talking in the present. Mark McGwire was huge until he got caught. Just trying to prove point.
Just doesn't feel like a good analogy.
I don't know how many Kazak atheletes rank ahead of Vino. Perhaps I'm misguided but not a whole lot I would imagine.
I think the US equivalent would be Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan getting caught doping. Those are the guys at the top of the US sports pantheon... not Barry Bonds.
Bonds is an even worse analogy because he was HATED... even before the doping. He's never been a particularly popular sports figure here. McGuire was more so... but not to any sort of universal level. Palmiero was the closest thing to a universally loved player going down for roids in baseball. |

Vino is probaly their countries idol because most kazakh riders dope anyway, so either way he is supporting a doped.
Do the Kazakhs even know that Vino doped?
I remember that, a few days after Vino had left the Tour, a journalist from Danish media went to Kazakhstan. There was no news about Vinokourov in the media at all - despite the fact that there was several pages about the Tour de France in general. When asking people, they thought he was injured, and that that was the reason why he wasn't at the Tour.

Nike's been out of the cycling industry (besides making one-off shoes for a couple of pro's) for around a year. So I doubt it. |

Oh and making TDF jerseys and official clothing.
I bet it's Nike.

Rumours said that they would have presented the project a while ago, but that one of the sponsors withdrew. At that time, the expected name was Livestrong - Nike, and as I don't see Livestrong pulling, I guess he's talking about a replacement for Nike. |

Nike may not sponsor, they may just make clothing and stuff for the team.
*trying to think of American companies with markets in europe*, oh yeah..

yep Bruyneel should go and make your own team with Lance again. My hope is that Contador will go for some other team..this is best for him. |

Good for Brunyeel and Armstrong. I am guessing Leipheimer/Horner/Kloden and most of the lot will leave with him and leave Astana to "rebuild" their team under Vino. The team will then never win a grand tour!
I am guessing Contador wil move to Caisse or something. |

Levi, Horner, Popo and JB jr will follow Lance and Bruyneel for sure. And some spanish riders will maybe follow Conta..
I think Contador thinks about going to Fernandos Alonsos team supported by Renault and Santander..
Words to live by
"What would Lance do?"
