Stage 7 Report

Stage 7 is the final and probably hardest mountain stage. It again finishes with a long climb, this time the Cat 1 Valdeblore La Colmiane. But there is more climbing earlier in the stage today with 3 Cat 2s and an additional Cat 1 across 182k.

If pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mol.png Kudus is going to win the GC he needs to make up for yesterday. He is the favorite.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/favs.jpg

15k gone and 5k to the peak of the first cat 2 climb. It has been a hard fight for the break today with the gap remaining small. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Schelling, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aab.png Zegklis (KOM leader), pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ced.png Jarc, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/lph.png Arvanitou have been out front since the beginning, although they only have a 41 second lead on the peloton for all their efforts. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/spz.png Frankiny is the 5th rider with them, he jumped across more recently. Lots of others trying to make it across including 2nd in the KOM, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aai.png Cepeda, and stage 5 winner, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/blt.png Gavars.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/01.jpg

Schelling easily wins the KOM sprint with Zegklis getting 2nd. Cepeda has not been able to join the break so far so Zegklis should win the KOM jersey. 5 other riders have bridged across, they are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/blt.png Gavars, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/blt.png Dulanjana, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/rab.png Van den Broek, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/xr0.png Herregodts, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Hessmann. Attacks still coming behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/02.jpg

The break role through the first sprint without contesting it. They have 3’42 on the peloton but in between a powerful 15-rider group has come together and is 1’44 off the front of the race.

With 153k to go the two groups merge. The additional 15 rider include Cepeda so the KOM jersey back in play, he trails Zeglis by 37 points, there are a enough points still to go to bridge that but it will be hard. In addition to Cepeda the additions include:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aai.png Amari
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aab.png O'Connor
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/cdb.png Eg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/cdb.png Skivild
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/cdb.png Svestad-Bardseng
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/yor.png Meintjes
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/zal.png Lasinis
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/zal.png Warchol
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/zal.png Beniusis
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ekr.png Vauquelin
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Vanhoucke
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Kämna
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/rab.png Ries
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/xr0.png Munton

Three each for Carlsberg and Zalgiris and 4 in the break for Fastned. They have 3’47 on the peloton which is being led by MOL and Polar.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/03.jpg

Amari did a lot of work in the 2nd group to bridge the gap and is immediately dropped.

105k to go and the break are on to the biggest climb of the day other than the finish, the Cat 1 Côte de la Saint-Baume The gap has been gradually getting larger and is up to 6’06. Schelling is the best on GC in the break at +7’52 (20th).

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/04.jpg

Cepeda attacks for the KOM points with 1k to climb. Vauquelin and Zegklis follow.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/05.jpg

It is very close between Zegklis and Vauquelin but Vauquelin gets the nod. Still outscoring Cepeda, who finishes 3rd, pretty much wraps up the KOM jersey for the Greek rider. Peloton holding at about 6'30 for now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/06.jpg

The lead goes out to 7’17 by the time the peloton completes the climb.

The peloton splits on the descent with 49 riders in the front group. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/blt.png Ardila (11th) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/spz.png Inkelaar (16th) are the only GC top 20 guys to miss the split.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/07.jpg

Zegklis outduels Cepeda again at the next Cat 2. There are 66k to go and they have a lead of 6’52. From here there is one more Cat 2 in about 25k, then a sprint point and the finishing climb which starts with 16k to go. The split in the peloton has closed.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/08.jpg

At the final Cat 2 Vauquelin takes maximum points ahead of Cepeda, Meintjes and Zegklis. Vauquelin up to 3rd in the KOM competition. Peloton at 7’17 with 39k to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/09.jpg

Cepeda presses on after the KOM and opens a small gap on the rest of the break but he is quickly brought back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/10.jpg

By the time the peloton reaches the sprint point Indosat and King Power have begun to help with the chase and the gap is down to 5’45 with 30k to go. Also the forcing has split 22 riders off the front. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/hvc.png Haig is among those missing right now but the gaps are fluid.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/11.jpg

The break turns on to the final climb with a lead of 5’37. Behind, the Yellow Jersey group is back to 46 riders. Ardila and Inkelaar are again the top 20 names to miss out, it doesn’t look like they will make it back this time.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/12.jpg

Indosat, King Power and MOL seem reluctant to let the break have this one and they have the lead down to 3’53 with 15k to climb. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/kng.png Matsuda, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mol.png Carretero Millan, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ino.png Firdaus the front 3 at the moment.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/13.jpg

10k banner for the break, their lead is down to 2’13. The break is still 24-riders, it might be time for the big guns in this group to up the pace.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/14.jpg

Soon after pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/lph.png Arvanitou and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/cdb.png Skivild are the first two dropped by the break as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/cdb.png Svestad-Bardseng up the pace.

5k for the break, Frankiny, Gavars Van den Broek, Jarc and Zegklis all dropped but they accelerated in the break as the peloton is now 2’31 down. Just 29 riders left in the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/15.jpg

5.6k to go and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mol.png Kudus launches the first GC attack. All the GC top 10 follow except pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/hvc.png Haig.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/16.jpg

With 3’6k to go pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Schelling attacks the break which is down to 10 riders. Behind the Kudus group has a small gap and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/hvc.png Rivera is chasing for Haig.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/17.jpg

Kudus pours the pressure on ripping through remnants of the break and dropping pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/gzl.png Leknessund (6th on GC). pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aai.png Carboni helping with the chase behind. Up front Schelling was unable to get a gap.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/18.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ino.png Morton (7th), and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/evo.png Geoghegan Hart (5th) are the next two to get dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/19.jpg

With 3.4k to go pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tti.png Sivakov can’t hold Kudus’ wheel and a gap forms, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/kng.png McNulty tries to close it. The riders on the right of Kudus are dropping back from the break. It is 39 seconds to the 3 dropped GC guys and another 18 back to a group of 7 including Haig. Despite the pace Kudus still has 2’22 to the leading group, many of those guys haven’t extended much energy today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/20.jpg

2k to go and there are 8 riders left up front: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Schelling, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/xr0.png Herregodts, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Hessmann, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/cdb.png Eg, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/zal.png Lasinis, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/blt.png Dulanjana pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Kämna, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/rab.png Ries.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/21.jpg

McNulty is the last one to give in and Kudus is on his own. The Yellow Jersey, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/pol.png Bernal, is already in trouble, 14 seconds behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ela.png Giannoutsos and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/znf.png Jorgenson, 23 seconds behind McNulty and 32 seconds behind Kudus.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/22.jpg

1.5k for the break and Schelling, Dulanjana and Herregodts are done for the day.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/23.jpg

800 meters, Hessman looks to be cooked. Lasinis has been setting the pace for a while, hopefully he has something left. Behind Kudus has 40 seconds on McNulty while further back Leknessund and Morton have caught Bernal and Sivakov. Looks like trying to follow the flying Eritrean may have been a mistake.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/24.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/zal.png Lasinis ups the pace and the others can’t follow. 500 meters.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/25.jpg

The Lithuanian Champion can celebrate; two outstanding stage wins for Zalgiris.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/26.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Kämna, finishes fastest to take 2nd ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/cdb.png Eg, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/rab.png Ries.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/27.jpg

1k banner for Kudus, he has 57 seconds on McNulty, and 1’16 on a group that has the rest of the GC top 10 except for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/evo.png Geoghegan Hart who is another 44 seconds down.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/28.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Hessmann, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/fas.png Schelling finish 5th and 6th, half of the top 6 spots for Fastned.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/29.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/blt.png Dulanjana, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ekr.png Vauquelin, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/xr0.png Herregodts take 7th to 9th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/zal.png Warchol and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/aab.png O'Connor edge out pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mol.png Kudus, who finishes 12th. Now it is a question of time gaps. Behind Jorgenson and Giannoutsos have drawn away from the other GC riders and are tracking down McNulty.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/30.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/kng.png McNulty just holds off pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/znf.png Jorgenson for 16th. Just behind them in 18th to 24th are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/gzl.png Leknessund, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ino.png Morton, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/hvc.png Haig and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/ela.png Giannoutsos. The Greek fading right at the end. Then pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/pol.png Bernal and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tti.png Sivakov, not a good day for the Yellow Jersey but he avoids losses as all these riders get the same time and lose 1’09 to Kudus. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/evo.png Geoghegan Hart loses another 55 seconds.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/PT/PN/S7/31.jpg

Kudus goes back to the top of the standings. He has 19 seconds on Bernal and 43 on McNulty. The American will be disappointed he didn’t gain any time on Bernal in the end. Geoghegan Hart drops 3 spots in the GC, those are the only changes in the top 10.

No other changes in the jerseys except Fastned’s big day puts them first in the teams. Gazelle up to 2nd with Indosat down to 3rd.
